I remember listening to this album earlier today cause I just randomly wandered around this website and gave this one a try. This sounds… so generic and bland. This is aggressively boring and safe. And this is supposed to be post-rock, which is not a genre I’m the most familiar with, but I know defies expectations. This seems more like a stereotype. This isn’t a new band either. Call me too harsh which I get but this shit was not even mid, just inoffensively offensive.
Bro actually flows pretty well wtf. Was not expecting to like Russian rap but alas?
Dude is pretty obscure and he’s pretty early in the rap game and could possibly be reading this review, so I just want to say these songs weren’t bad, they could’ve maybe just been fleshed out more, and the mix on the vocals could’ve been a bit less rough. I actually liked the songs though, not a bad debut for sure.
I really didn’t like how some of the songs tended to just kinda end. They seemed to be reaching a climax in instrumentation and whatnot and then my man Seamus was like “nah fuck that, next thing” and it was pretty noticeable. I actually really liked the bass lines on the piano; they provided a really nice foundation, but unfortunately the rest of what I heard wasn’t really up to snuff. Mainly there were some issues I noticed with the mixing, like some of it was muffled ... read more
August Fanon is quite the interesting musician. He hails from the DFW area, which is where I currently live, and to call this man underground is an understatement to how off the map yet underappreciated this man is. The beats on this album were absolutely insane, and the fact they were stashed away for like 6 years before seeing the light of day is crazy. This was incredible. The use of sampling… the really weird lo-fi style production… also the album cover is very appealing. ... read more
Cut the sleepy pretty derivative beats and this would actually be pretty fire. I fw this dude’s auto tune, it sounds really good, and also he’s the first Hungarian rapper I’ve listened to.
Swans discography listen 19/? | Swans Are Dead (1998)
While I think this suffers from the “Children of God” issue (don’t hate I still like that album) of songs overstaying their welcome and becoming bloated, some of these songs are better than their studio counterparts. If you ever find yourself discussing best live bands and Swans isn’t top 3, you’re doing it wrong.
Some alright post-hardcore and I really like how the second song has a kind of ritardando throughout, but overall, did not have that great a first impression. Hi hats sounded really bad and often clipped out, and my bro just does not have a good scream, sorry.
Not the worst thing I ever heard but his flow isn’t great and some of the tracks are so painfully boring. I was kinda excited at first cause of the Polo G and Gunna features, but none of the features were particularly that likeable although NLE Choppa had a great verse. It’s more badly forgettable than just terrible.
Swans discography listen 18/? | Soundtracks for the Blind (1996)
I hate perfect scores because in the end nothing is perfect. But every so often, an album slips through, and while there hasn’t been a SINGLE album I 100% liked, concept matters and that basis gave me the confidence in giving Soundtracks for the Blind, the Swan song (ayyyyy) of Swans’ first iteration a perfect 10/10.
This isn’t a flawless album, “Hypogirl” has an overdone Jarboe vocal performance, a ... read more
I was quite shocked to see this band break into the “relative” mainstream because the music is so guttural, brutal, and pretty sad. That transition from “Screaming” to “Is It Really You?” is incredible, and both songs are incredible too. I really liked the more ambient passages, my main issue was while I loved the metalcore elements, I feel like the metalcore songs on the latter half could’ve maybe been more concise. Asides from that, greaaaat album.
I sneezed on the first track and the only reason I bring that up is because that is the only stimulation I got from this album asides from just being repulsed at this utter bullshiii
Swans discography listen 17/? | DIE TÜR IST ZU (1996)
I mean don’t get me wrong, I do think stand-alone wise this EP/album (idk which it is lol), is pretty good, but you know what’s coming next. This preceded Soundtracks for the Blind, and as I have listened to Soundtracks more times than I can even count, it’s natural that I’m not gonna come to this project a lot. It is very much just Soundtracks in development, and while I think it’s cool to get an outline ... read more
Yes, I gave this album a 10/10. I truly think this is not only one of the greatest albums in indie rock, but that I have heard in a LONG time. Constantly sarcastic yet poignant, haunting, and very forward-thinking for its time, I am appalled at seeing the kind of harsh reviews for this album. The sampling, the production, the very whiny but laid back vocal delivery, the drumming… especially the drumming. The drumming is definitely quite complex on this one, really relying on ghost notes ... read more
Swans discography listen 16/? | THE GREAT ANNIHILATOR (1995)
This album, at least to me, sounded like Soundtracks if Soundtracks was gothic… and post-punk a little bit. I mean you have the bombastic noise rock passages, very similar themes… you even you have your own little “Red Velvet Corridor” with the first half of the song “Warm”.
Ok but judging this album itself… everything is really good, but this is a very odd and rare case (at least to me) ... read more
This album is just a very nice vibe. For such a lowkey project, it has absolutely incredible production. I loved mostly everything about this album, and this is not typically a sound I’m crazy for. This could’ve been longer though, but I am very excited for what more these guys have planned.
My first exposure to the Grateful Dead, and tbh, not bad. Jerry Garcia has a great voice; this also has one of the best vocal mixes I’ve heard in a recent while. My main critique is that “Friend of the Devil” was absolutely incredible, but the quality never matched that song. This is a good example of a front-loaded album. Still, there isn’t a bad song on this one.
Swans discography listen 15/? | OMNISCIENCE (1992)
Overall, easily their most forgettable live album until this point. Even then… for such a forgettable album, it’s actually pretty cool. It’s a testament that one of Swans worst releases I rated this high.
While the album sounds quite good, especially on the mixing end of things, the music and especially the vocals don’t really glue me in that much. No disrespect to the singer who unfortunately passed away not too long ago, but he didn’t have my favorite voice. I also think the drumming could be a little more varied, but eh… the bass drum sounded nice, a lot of double basses sound like shit when released
