Swans discography listen 2/?
This was a disappointing listen. Filth was so good, it was brutal and smart no wave. While I don’t think Cop suffers from Filth’s all-songs-blending-in-together issue, it had a weak pacing. It started off great with “Half Life”, and then progressed to “Job”. By that point, although I liked the latter, I started to dread that this album would be going in a downward slope, and alas, “Why Hide” kicked in and I got ... read more
First time listening to Steve Lacy, came away very impressed. He has quite an interesting voice. He almost has a neo-soul weirdly mixed in with emo type of voice, it's especially noticeable on "Bad Habit", and I really dig it. I also don't mind that the vocal mix is very thin. By the way, to quickly circle back to "Bad Habit", what a song. It's insanely good. This is one of my top songs of the summer already. I was shocked to find that although largely positively received, ... read more
Led Zeppelin hater reviews Led Zeppelin’s discography #3 | Led Zeppelin III
Previous scores: (I: 47, II: 39)
I’m just gonna let exposition out the way: this album sucks. This was my least favorite when I was a Led Zeppelin loving child, it just always was. The only reason why I didn’t give this an even LOWER score is because I will give credit where credit is due, Led Zeppelin did try something new and even if I think the sound was awful, I do welcome change with open arms, ... read more
Swans discography listen 1/?
Swans’ first album, Filth, is a fantastic no wave project. Unrelenting and brutal, frontman Michael Gira has a kind of snarl in the project that he would largely abandon later on, and the snarl does fit the music. The guitar tones are thick and sludgy, the drums don’t really utilize cymbals, playing mostly fortissimo on toms and the snare with constant consistent pounding on the bass drum. The bass is also quite iconic, especially on the track ... read more
Led Zeppelin hater reviews Led Zeppelin’s discography #2 | Led Zeppelin II
Here we are, what many fans consider to be their best album, Led Zeppelin II. I gave their first album a 47/100, and to me it is probably my second favorite of theirs besides from the fourth.
This album is probably the largest 180 I’ve done with Led Zeppelin. This used to be my favorite also but on a relisten, I did not like this album at all. It felt like a huge step down from the first, and the first I ... read more
“I don’t think I’ll grow no more / I don’t think it’ll snow no more / can’t feel it in my bones no more / I ain’t too cool for, oh, no more / I ain’t up to speed like that / I been out the loop for sure / Hold up, shit, I’ll be right back / Instructions in the trash for sure”
Injury Reserve’s By The Time I Get to Phoenix is a terrifying album. It speaks on topics of depression, isolation, and systemic racism. Specifically on ... read more
This shit was fire. The tracks that were weak weren’t that bad (none were offensively bad at all), and the good tracks overshadowed them anyways. Speaking of the good tracks, this album had some phenomenal and close to flawless tracks. What comes to mind is the one with Kanye. Kanye has a really great and passionate flow, and his chorus on the track is also pretty great. I also have to mention what is probably my favorite track, “PUFFIN ON ZOOTIEZ”. Incredible beat, loved the ... read more
One of the most unique albums I've heard this year. Heavily utilizing completely random ass sampling from Steamed Hams to a PS4, Ghais Guevara still somehow makes it work. This is my first exposure to them and it's a fantastic project, although maybe after a while the songs seemed to feel a bit samey.
Led Zeppelin hater reviews Led Zeppelin’s discography #1
Whenever I hear discussion of, “what is the most overrated band or artist”, my mind immediately jumps to Led Zeppelin. They aren’t necessarily the worst, I just put myself as a “hater” because “underappreciator” doesn’t have a nice ring to it. As a young kid to an early teen, I remember Led Zeppelin was always one of my favorite bands. Over time though, the music just started sounding ... read more
I think this might be the only album so far where Mike Love has really wow’d me, although I know he is also quite prominent on Sunflower. On this record, he seems to temporarily humble himself and lose that pompous attitude that he would be known for. I know it won’t always last, but it’s nice to have a humbled dude singing short a capella tracks and singing about meditation.
The album sounds fantastic, especially coming off of Wild Honey which is quite frankly one of the ... read more
I’m not gonna say too much because everything that’s needed to be said has been said, but this is the most disrespectful album in the history of music. I could not even make it past “Down with the Ship”.
You might be curious to check this album out because so many hate it and Fantano named it the worst album of its respective year. You think, “5/100? Wow that’s bad, let me check it out”. Do not check it out. I am very lucky to be in a better state ... read more
I recently decided to listen to this EP again. I had only listened to it once before and I had already come to the opinion that it was the worst thing I ever listened to, even coming from my favorite band of all time, Sonic Youth. When I was inputting scores from RYM, I avoided this album because I knew one day I would make a review.
Sonic Youth does rap rock? Yikes. At least Ciccone Youth had some genuine bangers. This shit was just skip after skip after skip, by the end, I would have skipped ... read more
First time listen, and my first thoughts are… the tracks that are good are really good but this might be the single most frontloaded album in history. Tracks 1-10 (with emphasis on 2, 4, 7, 8, and 10) are some of the best idm i’ve ever heard. The rest isn’t bad per say, there are some good tracks on the second leg of this thing, but the first half is so incredible. It’s a great album all things considered, I just wish some tracks were more fleshed out maybe.
The first track, “Concubine”, always kinda put me off from this one. It seemed loud for the sake of being loud. But, as this album is showered with praise, I decided to finally check it out, and it was incredible. Once you get past the fact that the vocals sound like a dripping faucet, it gets really good. And, hell, I actually like the vocals now. It’s a pretty unique scream anyways.
The songwriting on this was also incredible, some of the smartest lines I’ve ever ever ... read more
Although the mix is not the greatest, especially on the vocals of Ian MacKaye, the songs are all pretty good for what they are. A notable last hoorah.
Once this album grows on you, it hits you like a brick. Some of just the best emo you’ll find, period. Really the only thing holding me back from a perfect score is the runtime, but even then, I didn’t dislike anything I heard, it was literally just a bunch of dudes hangin out and I loved it. First two tracks are actual 10/10s. “Heyyyyy, Ringwald haze.”
