Swans discography listen 10/? | FEEL GOOD NOW (1987)
Unlike Public Castration, which did give me an appreciation for some tracks on “Greed” and “Holy Money”, this one didn’t really give me an appreciation for Children of God. If you loved the album, this is the live album for you, but for me, they tend to drag out some of my least favorite songs and it’s tiring; they’re not made interesting either. It’s not bad by any means, the performances ... read more
Easily the greatest album on the “10” AOTYs of 1950, this was quite the listen. Firstly, WOW does she have a crazy voice. Apparently, she could span more than 5 octaves, which is pretty insane. It definitely helps the music, her performance is very accented and energetic but never an “over”performance. Also, as a percussionist, I loved the percussion style on display here. Everything is so subtle yet boomy. Loved the album. Hell, my only real complaint is I wished this ... read more
I just stumbled across this EP in my aoty feed and got interested because I know this guy is a commentary youtuber (although I never watched him). This was awful. I’m sorry. This is really bad. I can’t even say anything, I am baffled.
Going further down the 1950 list of AOTYs is this one from Charlie Parker. While he is an incredible saxophonist, the covers of this album (so, every song) are hit-or-miss. It’s just not that great of stringed jazz. A good recommendation for that stuff is Ahmad Jamal’s “Jamal at the Penthouse”, which is not only my favorite jazz album, but one of my favorites of all time.
Swans discography listen 9/? | CHILDREN OF GOD (1987)
I’ll just start off what will probably be one of my more hot Swans takes, I don’t get the hype. I really don’t. The album is actually not bad, the tracks are pretty good. It just doesn’t need to be that long. At that length, we start to kinda get filler tracks. Asides from that, it’s not uncommon for Jarboe or Gira to overperform on this album, to a point where the songs become almost grating. Not a bad album, ... read more
It’s like the same song 8 times. I’ve heard better vocal jazz releases, even before this (Billie Holiday singles 🐐). Shaking my… smh.
I decided to just go through the top AOTYs, and I was pretty surprised finding a Mariachi album topping a year. What I was more surprised of is how much I liked it. It’s not very special to me; overall, mariachi isn’t really my thing, it’s just such a relic of its time. It’s rich even though it was recorded in a sink.
Swans discography listen 8/? | PUBLIC CASTRATION IS A GOOD IDEA (1986)
It’s Greed and Holy Money but loud… and someone is def vacuuming in “Fool”. Wasn’t expecting to like this, but I did. Fitting that the last no wave release is the loudest.
Swans discography listen 6/? | HOLY MONEY (1986)
A lot of the issues with last album still apply; few weak tracks and the harmonies are still grating, but hey, at least the lyricism doesn’t feel as gross to me. So… that’s cool. Not a lot to say about this one, Greed Pt. 2 pretty much. “Coward” is a goated outro track.
Swans discography listen 5/? | GREED (1986)
I was actually shocked when I saw the user score on this album and the fact that it was the second lowest rated Swans album; and it wasn’t even much off from the lowest (63). This was the start of a new era, abandoning the band’s no wave sound completely for a melodic industrial approach which they would mostly incorporate to the rest of their discography. Well, although I think this album is fairly overhated, I don’t really fault ... read more
It’s alright. For an independent release as small as this one, the production is quite good, like the lo-fi qualities. Asides from that, not too crazy about any of the songs.

Well, this is it, the end of my Led Zeppelin journey. The first album being quite mediocre, the second album being downright bad, the third album being genuinely awful, the fourth being fantastic, the fifth going back to the awfulness, the sixth being overrated but overall good, and the seventh being pretty much just a ... read more

Often regarded as the “dud” in Led Zeppelin’s discography by many fans and it’s not hard to see why.
Opening with “Achilles Last Stand”, the album opens pretty ambitiously. John Bonham has such a good performance AND sound. I want to take a second to just compliment the fuck outta his sound, the bass drum sounds so ... read more
Two new surprise songs from Billie Eilish, and now she’s exploring indie folk? I’m down with it honestly, it has Tomberlin vibes and I fw with Tomberlin. I’m not exactly BLOWN away but they were both very nice. Main criticism is that whenever she sings in a very low register, I don’t find it mixes well with the keys. Besides from that, W single. I don’t know how people don’t like Billie. Also love the cover.

While IV is usually seen as the best Led Zeppelin album, the fan favorite, although often debated, does seem to be their 1975 effort, Physical Graffiti. Due to the rather lukewarm reception to Houses of the Holy, Led Zeppelin strived to create a masterpiece at more than twice the length. Staggeringly, this album lasts an hour and 23 minutes. Yeah, an ... read more
Nice listen. I should go on bandcamp more, a couple of years back I remember just scrolling through genres and listening to the albums with cool covers. This was a pretty cool cover and I decided that I was in a pop kind of mood. I will say, although a lot of this album I can chalk up to being kind of not my thing, there is clear talent here. The production is also very good for an independent artist. Overall, it was an enjoyable listen I’d say.

What a transition… from Young God to this. And, honestly, it’s for the better. I wasn’t ready to get an industrial dance, but, alas, that’s just Swans. The title track is fantastic, I really like it too when Gira stops singing and just starts howling. Although it is a very different sound, the lyricism is not very different compared to Filth and Cop, the track still covers extremely dark subject matter very repetitively. The other song, ... read more

Annnnnnnnnd right when Led Zeppelin dropped a classic, they were like “damn that sounded tight, let’s drop one of the most boring album in our whole discography”.
Starting with “The Song Remains the Same”, I immediately see one issue on this album, the production. Wow did the production make this miserable. Now, I am talking about ... read more

Yeah, alright, this one is a classic. In the traditional sense, this is the only album that I think I’ll end up liking recalling their entire discography from when I last listened to it years and years ago. While I don’t quite get the people saying that this is the greatest album of all time, I could certainly see why they would say this. Once again, a great ... read more
