Drake 5/?
While this mixtape suffers from issues of inconsistency and is kinda all over the place, it’s fire simultaneously. Some of Drake’s best songs are on here, as well as some of his best beats. I think he utilizes So Far Gone inspired beats mixed in with his more modern rapping style, and the end result is pretty good. While it’s not flawless, it’s amazing, and definitely one of his best.

I’ve never seen an artist that consistently disappoints and impresses me more than Drake. So Far Gone was great, Thank Me Later was horrible, Take Care was amazing… and this? It’s good. And that’s pretty much it. I wasn’t really impressed. It’s hard to follow up what is essentially one of the best pop rap albums, but this was pretty much a boring good. The tracks were all decent but none stood out, the beats also noticeably are of lower quality. I ... read more

Damn this was amazing. This is easily one of the best pop raps albums I’ve ever heard; it’s clear Drake made this album to sell but him and his executive producer 40 still developed some of the most catchy and creative songs of the 2010s. It’s weird to say this for Drake, but a lot of the songs are actually quite existential, like “Marvin’s Room”, which has always been my favorite Drake song. I remember I got chills the first time I heard that song ... read more

How did we go from “how many of our parents marriage lasted? i was only five, i barely reacted” to “now my insides lookin like a snickers bar” ๐๐๐๐
Huge step down from So Far Gone, and this is coming from someone who’s hearing Drake’s discography for the first time with the notion that I don’t hate him. I have absolutely no connection to this album so maybe a lot of the love comes from nostalgia, but wow… not great… ... read more
This was like *really* good. It’s basically a fusion of like mathcore and noise and very symbolic of free jazz. One of the freshest noise rock albums I’ve heard in a long time.
I have literally yet to see the appeal I have tried so hard to get it but I literally can’t it does not sound good
I don’t think I’ve ever seen an album this blatantly wearing the influences on its sleeve. Not a bad thing, and the dude is quite young so I am not at all worried he can’t improve, but hyping him up is a bit much. We can highlight his talent but also give him tips on how to improve, because this isn’t perfect.
While I appreciate them attempting to blend shoegaze in with dance… the results are mixed, and often sound downright bad.

I’ve always had a kind of soft spot for Drake. While I never liked him, I also never really hated him and kinda never agreed with the strong hatred he gets. I decided that I’d do a discography listen of Drake, and I probably should anyways because of his sheer popularity.
So Far Gone is pretty good. The beats are pretty incredible, especially in the first half; they’re atmospheric and gloomy and I really liked it. It gave me 808s and Heartbreak vibes… and ... read more

“Honestly, for me, I wanted to make a record that could stand as a final statement because there were already tremors preceding our impending earthquake” - Justin Trosper, 2013
Before discussing Unwound’s swan song and magnum opus, Leaves Turn Inside You, it’s first important to understand the context behind it. In short, the band was fucking pissed. And burnt out. Justin Trosper had very little motivation for music anymore after Challenge for a Civilized ... read more
Unwound [6/7]
Full of rage, angst, and an increasing sense of concern for the future of the band, everyone, particularly Justin Trosper, had begun to face burnout by the time of Challenge for a Civilized Society. A lack of ideas, the pressure of following up 1996’s Repetition, and oncoming health issues of Vern Rumsey basically assured this album would be a disaster, and while it very much was, and basically spelt out the end for Unwound, the sound is quite incredible. I think a great ... read more
Unwound [5/7]
I was not expecting this album to sound as grimey and shitty (in a good way) as I imagined due to this commonly being referred to as the most accessible Unwound album. I could imagine someone getting into “Corpse Pose” and then forever being turned off from this band by the rest of the songs… it can get soooo loud lol. There are moments in here that are even too much from me, with my only complaint being that some of the noise passages tend to get in the way of ... read more
Ain’t no way my man dropped this soothing shit which would develop into a folk cult classic and then said “aight ima dip”
Unwound [4/7]
If you’ve never listened to this ep/mini-album before, the thing I want you to take away is THIS IS THE DEBUT. I did not know this until halfway through, and my disappointment was very quickly swept away and I actually started to like it a lot. The song writing is quite amateurish, with of course the standouts (“Antifreeze”, “Understand & Forget”, “Fingertips”, “Stuck in the Middle of Nowhere Again”, and “Kid Is ... read more
Unwound [3/7]
I will speak on the last three tracks in a bit, but if I were to just sum up the album in a whole, it would be disappointing but essential. It’s disappointing as the faults with New Plastic Ideas (shorter song lengths at the behest of song memorability) are even more apparent here. Not to say the album doesn’t have its charms… like “Demolished” and “Descension” for example, but overall it felt kind of like an enjoyable skip in a ... read more

Now this is a bit funny. My main critique of Fake Train is that the songs were phenomenal but the coherency and “album” itself weren’t really it. However, while this is an incredibly and compactly structured album, there is not that much that sticks out to me asides Hexenzsene, Arboretum, and Fiction Friction. That’s not to underrate those tracks in the grand scheme of things, Arboretum at its core is my favorite Unwound song and always has been, but I ... read more
Unwound [1/7]
Unwound is a band with a discography I always wanted to check out, so yesterday I got bored and decided that I would listen to the band’s entire discography over the weekend because I have nothing asides from marching band.
Fake Train is a great debut. Everyone was quite young at the time, so it’s pretty crazy how they could “get it” first try. That’s not to say this album is perfect… as per the score. My main critique, and it is a big one, ... read more
Jit nahhh I listened to the first few songs and they literally sound the same and then I listened to some of the hits and they sound the same too. Is this like metal AC/DC? Lmao. Shit is fire bro unrelease it ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
