I really wanted to love this, but as a follow up to the INCREDIBLE Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, it pales completely in comparison. Ultimately, none of the tracks go to the highs of that aforementioned album, alongside some pretty weirdly choppy sampling and an overall less captivating image. There was a song I rated in the red, and as I am such a liberal grader (pretty much I define a 100 for a track I really like and don’t factor in perfection), that really hurt to do, but that track ... read more
Yeah rap aoty… by quite a mile too, and there’s been some pretty good music. First exposure to JID and I’m very impressed.
Bob Dylan 1/?
Well... for my most adventurous discography listen yet... I decided to listen to all of Bob Dylan. I'll be covering obviously all studio albums, but also do plan to cover bootlegs. This'll be fun. I recently heard "Boots of Spanish Leather", a song on Dylan's third album The Times They Are a-Changin'... and it was incredible frankly, and listening to other Dylan tracks, I didn't encounter one I didn't like in some capacity. He has a really strange voice, and to be ... read more
Solid rapping but that’s where the compliments end. The mixing is bad, I’m not gonna sugarcoat that much.
Fucking. Breathtaking. I still can’t decide between this and Solitude which are my favorites from her. She is soooo good.
BROCKHAMPTON 7/?
This’ll prob be a short review because tbh I think I’m kinda out of my mini BROCKHAMPTON phase again (I usually get into them intensively for like a few weeks like twice a year) so I don’t have much to say.
This was the first BROCKHAMPTON album which dropped when I was already a fan, so the hype I felt with the “BUZZCUT” single was incredible. And “BUZZCUT” IS incredible. There are some insane standouts either that are some of the ... read more
Charles Mingus remains one of my most loved musicians in Jazz, and I was pretty surprised to see how experimental he was near the beginning of his leader career too. To call this album avant-garde is quite an understatement, as Mingus’ band spent an entire track dedicated to making “car noises” lol. Everything in this album is just iconic: one of the band members cursing as the first track sped up, the random offbeat shit during the solos (which scared tf outta me btw), and of ... read more
While I think it’s kinda long, it’s still a really good record of Sitar music. I’d even argue this is a record everyone must hear at least once in their lives tbh.
PS2 ass production + dollar store Bladee πππ
(btw the rap verses are really painful omg) 0/10
I want to love this album… I really do, but AMAZING vocal jazz to me is supposed to be about an hour of material for me. Covering anything from falling in love to heartbreak, I think the most concise runtime for a vocal jazz album to get its message across is an hour, maybe slightly under/over. Now this thing is amazing… but is more than 2 hours long? I love Ella Fitzgerald, and her voice and the instrumentals here are sooo good, BUT 2 HOURS? I can rarely listen to albums over 2 ... read more
After listening to the top 10 albums of every year starting 1950… yeah this one is a GIANT leap. The fact that the album already opens with a crunch distorted guitar is a pretty crazy progression in music. Fantastic.
BROCKHAMPTON 6/?
GINGER is probably my least favorite BROCKHAMPTON album, and by a large margin, which is pretty good for BROCKHAMPTON as their worst isn’t even bad. It’s just kinda a mess. They seem to be wanting to say something but don’t have nothing to say… and before u come at me… yes I know that was the point of tracks like “DEARLY DEPARTED”, but it fit that song well, it doesn’t really work as a project like this.
“NO HALO” ... read more
Piano-only music tends to be either some of my favorite compositions of all time (Gymnopedie) or just boring ass nice hotel music. This album is a perfect description of the latter. U know it’s bad when my favorite part was the weirdly soothing static throughout the tracks.
“Swing it boys π ππ³π«‘” - Louis Armstrong, 1956
BROCKHAMPTON 5/?
“Praise God! Hallelujah! I’m still depressed.”
I never really liked this album that much in the past, because while I found there was some incredible standouts, the low points were boring. At this point in my life, I can appreciate this album… ALOT. I think calling this the Kid A of rap is kinda weird, because both were written from very different perspectives (Thom Yorke was depressed and suicidal from brutal OK Computer touring), but the band was ... read more
