Document marks the period of the most critically acclaimed era of R.E.M, with particular love for this trilogy of albums including Green and Out of Time.
“Finest Worksong” starts the album out and is just emblematic of how improved the lyricism and sound is. It’s a good amount of angst but R.E.M.‘s known jangle. “Welcome To the Occupation” was FANTASTIC, and ... read more
I think I ran into the first “bad” album of the year. This one was… not great. The sound was extremely “pingy” if that makes sense; it just sounded so tight and the percussion was even double that. The singing too… WOW that caught me off guard the first time I heard it. I’m not saying u have to be a prodigy at singing, but if ur not great, idk why u would put it on a track that’s so ambient and exposing. Dude is actually pretty interesting upon ... read more
I liked all sounds I heard but generally I felt like this is a sound that’s really rough with forming a concise idea around and I think this album is a victim of that. Really nice sounding though, that’s for sure.
A great EP from rappers Monday Night and 3wayslim. It almost gives me chill Earl Sweatshirt and Conway the Machine vibes at points. Nice instrumentals, great flows, great EP.
THE FIRST PROJECT LISTEN OF 2023 !
I don’t really fw New Year’s resolutions because I’m really bad with sticking with them but one that I rlly want to do is simply to listen to new music more. So, from here on out, I’ll try to daily revisit the “new music releases” page on this site to find some obscure shit and review it. It can range from pretty brutal to some actual gems. I don’t account that for more mainstream albums which I also will try harder ... read more
Not a bad mixtape but asides from the Drain Gang influences just being far too overbearing, it’s something about the beat which doesn’t combine well with the vocals. I actually really like the vocals and how they sound almost kind of whiny; pretty much an American Bladee. The beats however were just not “cloud rap” enough to support a kind of cloud rap sound.
One of the worst trends in music rn and which will continue is the multitudes of rap groups that have formed and will form in reminiscence of BH. This somehow… is EVEN worse. While this trend is devoid of substance and originality, THIS is just devoid of everything and anything good. I can’t even get the BH scraps, it’s all just shit.

1966 was a one of a kind year for music. While people might point to 1967… 1969… 1973… 1991… even 2019… perhaps none is more underrated than this very year. The Beach Boys dropped what is arguably the most important album of all time: Pet Sounds. The Beatles a couple of months later dropped the amazing Revolver, often considered one of their greatest albums. And in the midst of that came Bob Dylan, who quietly but VERY IMPACTFULLY dropped his ... read more
A trainwreck that I somehow can’t hate. Reminds me of alot of the shit my friends used to put out lol. It has that charm. Still, not great, but I can’t really hate it that much.

Last time, R.E.M. seemed to embrace their charming yet ugly sound and maximized it to the fullest to make an actual amazing album. It’s early to call but from the looks of it now I can actually admit this series is changing my mind on the band.
“Begin the Begin” already signals a departure from the bands previous work as it all but abandons its folk sound. It’s not much of a ... read more

While the first two albums suffered from being pretty much just run-of-the-mill R.E.M. (if that makes sense), this album just fully embraces the musics ugliness and its shitty production comes to its benefit.
The first two tracks “Feeling Gravitys Pull” and “Maps and Legends” both show this sound quite well. While the music is still R.E.M.-esque, it almost seemed like R.E.M. just gave up on ... read more

While it does have some tracks which kind of drag, EVERY song here is unique in its own capacity and feels like it’s telling an engaging story. And of course… this album has “Like A Rolling Stone” lol. That could quite literally be the best song of all time.

So, listening to Murmur, I began to already have some qualms of re-evaluating the band. Sure, the debut isn’t great, but a majority of debuts aren’t anyways, and that album has to get alot of credit for its sound. This though… THIS was bad.
“Harborcoat” is a pretty weird track because while I liked it first listen, on a second listen I dislike it… I don’t know how it grew off me but it ... read more

It’s very clear as to why this album was controversial; hearing Bob Dylan with electric guitar? with bass? with fucking DRUMS?? that must’ve been pretty wild in 1965. The rock portion of this album is definitely better than the acoustic portion. I will say however, this album has some of his most underrated and overrated songs in the same project. “Mr. Tambourine Man” and “It’s Alright, Ma” are not bad, FAR from it, but I wouldn’t ... read more

I hate this band. But something I really would like to do on this website is review the discography of bands I hate. First was Led Zeppelin, and I mostly came to the same conclusion as before I listened to it, which is to say I still disliked it quite a bit. I really want to like this band, they have this certain charm, but their sound is so viscerally safe and bland that it’s unlistenable for me. Funny enough, my dad was a really big ... read more

This is perhaps the most transitional album I’ve ever heard in my life lol. It’s clear his mind had moved on from the more traditional folk on his earlier albums, yet the product sounded more-or-less the same. It’s not as concise as the others, but it’s still an amazing and emotional album. I say emotional because songs can either be teetering on comedy or be really fucked up tales such as the one on display in “Ballad in Plain D” where Dylan ... read more

Easily his best album up until this point, and it’s the one which a really small diehard minority of the fan base (mostly an older viewpoint) consider his last great album as after this he largely abandons politics, especially that of such an explicit leftist slant, similar to Joan Baez although she only went more left.
New to her and I really like this asides from the second track being kind of weak. Pls drop the album already π
Knew very little about the dude besides from knowing his name from his features on Kendrick Lamar projects… WOW was this terrible lol.
The first song was fantastic, and while the snarkiness and braggadociousness did kind of rub me the wrong way, I would just wave it asides. But each song just got worse… and WORSE. I legit did not like any song on here except the first.
I would be willing to excuse the arrogance if it actually sounded good and didn’t sound like it was made ... read more

While it is pretty front-loaded, it’s still a fantastic improvement on his debut. Which… just mentioning the front-loaded nature, wow is the run from “Blowin in the Wind” to “Down the Highway” some of the best music I’ve ever heard from this era. REALLY good writing.
