Steve Lacy - Apollo XXI

Having heard and enjoyed his single 'Some' I was expecting a chilled soul/pop album, but this album is far from that. I like what songs such as 'Like Me' and 'Hate CD' are doing but they don't really hit their full potential. There is a lot of experimentation on this album, but the outcome of this is scruffy and lack lustre.

I wasn't expecting anything different from LG, as every release is incredibly similar to the last and this is no different. There is a lot more filler in this album than 'As You Were' and when the tunes are bad, they're really bad. The lead single 'Shockwave' is one of these songs. It would be a decent song if it wasn't for that "Hey" on the chorus is very annoying. songs like 'Meadow', 'Alright Now' and 'Glimmer' make you question why they've even made the album at all. All in all, ... read more

I prefer TA13OO, but this is pretty fun.

Favourite tracks: Ricky, Wish

Bruce Springsteen - Western Stars

'The Wayfarer' is the folk version of 'Human' by The Killers.

Coldplay - Everyday Life

This album plans to tackle police violence and gun control, however, the songs leave us wanting a lot more and leaving all questions it's trying to answer, unanswered. A lot of the songs on here seem to be polished but unfinished. This is down to the production, as some instruments seem to be overpowered by others. A lot of the songs try to add an atmosphere by adding echoes to the instrumentals and vocals however all this seems to do is muffle the songs.

BROCKHAMPTON - GINGER

Enjoyable in parts, this album goes from good to bad throughout. Often enough albums that main theme is depression can craft beautiful heartfelt songs but none of the tracks really stand out as such.

Favourite tracks: No Halo, St. Percy, Dearly Departed

Danny Brown - uknowhatimsayin¿

The first Danny Brown LP I've listened to, and if they're all as wacky and energetic as this then I am hooked!

Favourite tracks: All of them

Jimmy Eat World - Surviving

Quite nice to hear a genuine 00's-esque rock album. I've definitely heard this before somewhere but it's a comfortable listen nonetheless!

Favourite tracks: Surviving, All the Way (Stay), Recommit, Congratulations

Post Malone - Hollywood's Bleeding

"Versace boxers on my dick" I made it to the second track and that's where I end listening to this album. I guess I'm not a fan of pop-trap-rap, who knew. But come on, why is it 17 songs looooong when awful songs like 'Saint-Tropez' make it on. Surely you have enough money now to make decent albums that are half the length?

Priests - The Seduction of Kansas

This album is devoid killer tracks and is littered with too much filler. I feel this is because the production is pretty flat throughout and doesn't give that burst of energy that these songs want to convey. That being said, songs like 'Texas Instrumental' and 'Carol' have a splash of that post-punk moodiness that I love, however, it's all a bit too little too late.

Favourite tracks: Carol, Good Time Charlie, Texas Instrumental, The Seduction of Kansas

Floating Points - Crush

The soundscapes paint such a broad picture in my head. I get transcended into an alternate future or universe. With that said, Charlie Brooker, if you're reading this, you have your next Black Mirror soundtrack sorted in this album.

Favourite Tracks: LesAlpx, Last Bloom, Sea-Watch, Apoptose Pt. 2

Mattiel - Satis Factory

Surprised I didn't hear this sooner!

I don't know many people that would listen to this willingly, but I'm sure there are at least 6 people who would.

Osees - Face Stabber

This album suffers from long album syndrome. It takes to long to get into a flow.

FKA twigs - MAGDALENE

This will definitely grow on me.

Warmduscher - Tainted Lunch

Nice blend of experimentation, however, it is hit and miss.

Favourite tracks: Midnight Dipper, Disco Peanuts, Fill It Don't Spill It, Blood Load

Beck - Hyperspace

What a mess

Metronomy - Metronomy Forever

Im a sucker for good production, but the fact that this album is about 7 songs too long (filler is never good) and that Salted Caramel Ice Cream is a clear rip off of Funky Town really ruins this album. That being said, I love the use of a pheromone on ‘Insecurity’ and the first half of the album is pretty good, salvages this record somewhat.

Favourite tracks: Whitsand Bay, Insecurity, Lately, The Light, Miracle Rooftop, Wedding Bells

Lil Peep - EVERYBODY'S EVERYTHING
