I love how this album sounds, but I think the mixing for the first 5 tracks is a bit lacking which can hold back my enjoyment a bit. Ice Age, while it is a banger, doesn't seem to fit with the aesthetic that the rest of the album has and feels out of place. That being said, I really enjoyed this and see myself returning to it a lot in the future. The run time may be daunting at first but none of the songs ever overstay their welcome, and the transitions between tracks can keep interest and make ... read more
This is easily the best hyperpop posse song, featuring great verses from everyone including Eliot, who's music I've never been able to get into. Kyenn's definitely the standout here for me. I don't like his own music because it's extremely repetitive to me, but his style switches it up before the chorus comes back in.
vdc's existence affects my opinion a bit but this album is insanely pretty
After 3 years of silence after his smash hit Iancito, Michigan rapper Ian Penney returns with The Last Capper. Although the production is admittedly lacking, Ian's got so many great lines throughout this that it makes for a really fun listen. I don't know if this is his last project as Ian Penney but if it is this is a great sendoff.
Best Tracks: The Last Capper - Intro, Yessir, Barlett, Oppwatch, FBI's Most Wanted, Menace, Top
Edit: The tracklist has changed around like 3 times since I first ... read more
although musically better than corona szn, the "improved" production causes diversify to lose what little charm he initially had to begin with. This album did not need to be 22 songs long, and apparently he plans on releasing a deluxe album. The only memorable songs were Fast and King of the Sheets, I can't remember a single thing about the other songs.
normally I like emo vocals but this was way too much, I hate the screaming
I like the ideas that are here but a lot of the songs go on for way too long
I love everything up to beginning of the end, lose interest after that. Persephone and government go so fucking hard its insane
The main thing I hear people talk about with this album is the production, and it's absolutely the standout feature here that I'm going to return for in the future. While there are a bunch of songs I love on here, I think the interludes and the song Where'd You Go towards the end of the album kill the momentum and limits it from having a higher score. Still, extremely promising and I hope his next album is even better.
At first I was a bit disappointed that it was so down tempo when compared to something like Antagonists, but Tropes' vocals really shine on this and makes me excited for what he could do on a full project
EDIT: I've listened to this nearly 50 times since writing this, there's something so addicting about Tropes and almost everything he touches
Original Score: 80
Xev's been a friend of mine for about 6 years now, and it's been insane watching how much he's grown. After I was admittedly disappointed with Magic Spells, his EP that he released back in October, I wasn't sure what his next release would look like. In the following months, he started posting instrumentals that he was working on, and these showed a lot of promise. These would later go on to be singles for the album, and any doubts I had about Xev's ability as a producer had vanished.
