really cool stuff from asian glow as we’ve come to expect, a great way to close out their career. some vocal moments here and there aren’t ideal but it never bothered me too much - the highlights on here are easily some of asian glow’s best stuff
super fun combo of indie rock and dream pop from Sweet Trip, it steps back from the glitchier sound on their previous record but at times it excels by doing so - such as the tracks ‘Milk’ and ‘Your World is Eternally Complete’. but unfortunately it is a slightly inconsistent record
another beautiful project from Bon Iver, what more is there to say
the first half of this record is incredible
this thing is a great shoegaze-y fuzzy rock album with some really really great moments
a pleasant listen!
enjoyed this a lot more than i expected to
it’s a fuzzy, loud indie rock record that is personal and unique
the vocals can be a little iffy but i don’t really mind to be honest
Fleet Foxes’ 2nd album is a dreamy folk release that feels like a mixture of Grizzly Bear and Wilco - two bands that i adore that have put out some of my favourite albums ever, and this album may well slot right into that category. an extremely pleasant experience, ‘Helplessness Blues’ is a grand and beautiful record that is an essential of the early 2010s / late 2000s era of folk
some super high quality garage rock on here, inconsistency lets the record down though
a mellower, more spacious record than their debut - ‘Wall of Eyes’ is a step forward but definitely not a step in the same direction.
BREAKING NEWS: JASON MOLINA IS A BRILLIANT SONGWRITER🚨‼️
Only kidding, this isn’t news to anyone.
Molina strikes again under his moniker ‘Songs: Ohia’ with a lower tempo and a more somber feel. The slower tempo is to Jasons detriment at times but the atmosphere that he is able to set is masterful, nobody does it quite like Molina.
re-listening to albums i heard ages ago - [76 -> 82]
‘Floral Green’ is a solid emo project with some top tier highlights (‘Head in the Ceiling Fan’ and ‘In-Between’ most notably), the tracks in between are pretty middle of the road emo tracks but the exceptions make this album a great listen
Portishead - the best of the best in triphop
this self titled LP is no ‘Dummy’, but it isn’t trying to be either. ‘Portishead’ is darker and more sinister, with elements of Jazz being blended into the mix incredibly well.
it goes without saying that Beth’s vocals are stunning, playing into the gloomy atmosphere superbly.
‘Portishead’ is a triphop essential
KANYE WEST MENTIONED🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
WHAT THE FUCK IS BEING UNPROBLEMATIC AND A GOOD ROLE MODEL🔥🔥🔥🔥

i have a long history with this album. It all started way back when i was first getting into music and i dived in a little too deep too soon, listening to albums like ‘In The Court Of The Crimson King’ and… this album, ‘In the Aeroplane Over the Sea’. And this album was one i particularly disliked, and since then it’s always been one of the few essential and classic albums that i disliked. But for the last few weeks i’ve been relistening to these ... read more
i feel like i’m supposed to like this a lot but i’m being held back by some things and i can’t quite put my finger on it
it feels almost like it’s math/prog rock for the sake of it sometimes and at points i think the vocals sit in a strange place in the mix
overall the sound is a solid one though so its still getting a good score, the ideas are there but sometimes they feel overcooked
Shame’s 2023 effort ‘Food For Worms’ was one of my favourite releases of the year, and so going into 2024 i decided to check out their previous works, and while all 3 of their albums have their own sound, the band remains consistently great. this 2nd venture of theirs ‘Drunk Tank Pink’ has a grittier sound and is full of energy that explores the minds of a post punk band on the rise
This albums first 3 tracks felt like it dragged me into the welcome ceremony for the pits of hell. the haunting, hellish, atmosphere was truly incredible. the climaxes blew me away and Anna’s vocals had me captivated throughout - she managed to capture the essence of the album in a bottle and screamed it out. Then comes track 4, ‘The Marble Eye’ which for me served as a bridgeway into the final track. It felt as if it was an acceptance to my indoctrination into whatever fiery ... read more
