yeah maybe i don’t get it
i find a lot of the writing so corny, and the instrumentals don’t strike me as anything too amazing
happy 30th birthday i guess LMAO
i like the cure, they’re good, i much prefer their ‘Disintegration’ sound, as older post-punk is yet to wow me - but ‘Pornography’ is one of the best examples of it i’ve heard yet
some of this is great, and yes it’s way ahead of its time and revolutionary and influential and whatnot - doesn’t make it particularly good though. just kinda painful to listen to at times
yoo i’m ‘Siamese Dream’s 3000th rating!
this album is a fuzzy grungy alt rock extravaganza - there isn’t a single dull or uninteresting moment on this thing. It’s a wonderful mesh of Grunge, Shoegaze, Alt-Rock, and at times, some Pop elements come into the play. This thing really is a dream on the ears
moon song?!?!? phoebe bridgers reference!?!?
in all seriousness this is a solid EP! i prefer it to ‘you made me realise’ - and on the whole, probably ‘m b v’ too
i think loveless is fantastic, and i’ve almost never complained about this before, and i’m shocked to see nobody else complain about it…. but the mixing??? it sucks in some parts???? especially the opener that everyone loves?? my ears are not okay???
the music is great but damn it feels like i’m listening to a low quality rip on ‘you made me realise’.
it’s not nearly as bad from ‘thorn’ onwards but those tracks just aren’t quite on ... read more
a psychedelic masterclass - a pure joyride of luscious and trippy art pop, Animal Collective’s ‘Merriweather Post Pavilion’ is a brilliant experience. I found myself having waves and waves of psychedelic pop poured on my head, but i didn’t mind; it was the type of soaking you’d feel having a warm shower after being damp and cold. This LP was a warm gush of beautiful chaos.
Yves’ most ambitious work - and it doesn’t fully pay off at times, but it’s still a thrilling listen with some fabulous highlights
a little inconsistent, but MGMT have made a tidy little indie rock/ psych pop record with ‘Loss of Life’
another great groovy record from Yard Act, just as quintessentially british but with some added quality and dance groove but sadly much less post punk which is more up my alley
why didn’t i do this sooner.
This is a record i listened to way way back before i properly got into music, and i thought it was okay, but knowing what i know now about my taste, knowing how good some of the songs on this are, and knowing how good their 2023 effort was - it’s staggering i took so long to do this relisten. but alas, here we are, with Slowdive’s second effort ‘Souvlaki’. this album is a dreamy pool of shoegaze that floats you along its stream of ... read more
a ball of energy, great beat selection, High quality rapping and never one dimensional - ‘BLUE LIPS’ is sucH a fun listen, extremely entertaining, although the first half is considerably stronger
so this really wasn’t what i was expecting considering Pixies are a very popular band, and the main genre tag was Indie Rock. ‘Doolittle’ is definitely not your average rock album - it’s very in your face, especially with the vocals. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn’t, and it makes for an inconsistent project. The highlights being very high means that it levels out at a decent score though.
my good friend Daniel released a new song so heres the review
To be totally honest - this thing sounds nearly AI generated, just so unoriginal in almost every aspect; especially the songwriting.
The vocals are decent but the generic ass instrumental, lyrics and song structure make it a kinda unpleasant listen. i’d love to see Daniel push some more boundaries with what he’s capable of because there’s almost definitely something there… just that nearly none of it is ... read more
[relisten 29/02/24] - no change
i expected to have to dock a point or two here but i found myself wanting to push it up to an 84 because wow the highlights are crazy good. Dizzee made this as a TEENAGER… in 2003!!!! crazy
I thought that maybe this might fight with White Pony for my favourite Deftones album since it has a solid amount of shoegaze influence, but it seems that i prefer the numetal side of things more. Nevertheless, this is such a solid effort from the alt metal giants, solidifying them as one of my favourite groups
being a highly rated Slowcore / Folk Rock record, i thought that this self titled LP from Red House Painters would be right up my street. and while its quality is undeniable, it didn’t quite reach up to the heights i expected it to, being quite monotone and sometimes flat. I wasn’t nearly as immersed in the atmosphere as i usually am on high quality slowcore records. it may just need a relisten, but for now - this record feels like a decent effort, but nothing outstanding
honestly i expected this thing to be much worse considering Grandaddy have some highly rated projects, and this one sat at a 69 at the time of listening. But, a lot of what i like about Grandaddy continued on this latest project. It’s a really pretty album, and despite being a little slow, i’m not quite sure why it doesn’t have a green score if i’m honest
