Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk
100

I listen to this album for the first time 2 days ago and I’ve listened to it probably 6 times since then. Once I listen to one song I have to just listen to basically the rest of the tracklist.

This is not the type of music I would usually enjoy and it took me a second to get used to her voice. But I wish I would’ve listened to this earlier, this is so incredible. I didn’t think I would like this album because it’s pop music. This is the most layered, complex and ... read more

JPEGMAFIA & Danny Brown - SCARING THE HOES
97

Scaring the Hoes is a collaboration between two of the most creative and unpredictable artists in modern hip-hop: Danny Brown and JPEGMAFIA. And they did not disappoint.

I remember the first time I tried to listen to this album when it came out in 2023, I hated it. I couldn’t get past the first song. But ever since my knowledge on music and production has grown, this thing is incredible.

The production on this album is unlike any album ever made. Fun fact: on this album, there is never ... read more

Future - WE DON'T TRUST YOU
74

Metro Boomin and Future’s WE DON’T TRUST YOU is one of the most impactful albums of its generation.

Metro’s production on this thing is great and on songs like Like That and Cinderella it’s dark and cinematic.

Future, while sometimes boring and repetitive, does well on this album. This is his native habitat, these dark thematic trap beats fit him very well.

Like That, the infamous Drake and J. Cole diss track, obviously features Kendrick Lamar. Future’s verses ... read more

Prince and The Revolution - Purple Rain
100

Prince is arguably the most talented person who has ever walked the earth, and this album shows it. This albums means a lot to me and it has some of my favorite songs ever on it. Purple Rain is a perfect mix of Rock, Pop, Funk and Soul.

It is clear that Prince was influenced by the culture and music around him. He grew up surrounded by music and he is a product of that. Prince had this spiritual connection to music itself that made it seem like God himself blessed Prince with these ... read more

Kanye West - BULLY V1
NR

I don’t think it’s really fair to review this because ITS A DEMO. However, I can actually see the vision with this, the production is a little rough around the edges, but my glorious Mike Dean can fix that. And if Ye actually records the vocals (like he said he will) it could be a LOT better. I think it lacks the grandness that a lot of the great Kanye albums have, but he could fix this. Id say when this album actually releases it could either be a 80+ or a <40 who knows. Ye is ... read more

Playboi Carti - MUSIC
58

Playboi Carti has always been someone whose music I’m not crazy about, but something about his sound has always been very interesting to me. His quirky voice, uncanny delivery and high level production has always made a weird and strange combo to me. While enjoying some of his music, I didn’t really care for his last studio album Whole Lotta Red. While I was never a huge fan of Playboi Carti, I always admired his unusual and unique style.

MUSIC or I AM MUSIC is one of the most ... read more

Freddie Gibbs & Madlib - Piñata
94

This production on this album is absolutely incredible. Freddie Gibbs is actually one of the best rappers of all time, and combined with Madlib he’s unstoppable. Freddie Gibbs flows so easily on every beat perfectly.

The beats on here are so good, with Madlib’s signature sampling, it doesn’t disappoint. Every beat on here is phenomenal, some of them are beautiful and some of them are grimy. Either way samples like Shame are so perfect for the chorus.

Shitsville is an amazing ... read more

A$AP Rocky - TESTING
80

I honestly think this record is very unappreciated. Rocky seems to be going for a dusty and raw aesthetic, which I think he does very well. Rocky has a very strong discography and even though this is my least favorite of his albums, I still like it a lot.

A lot of this album has a quiet and eerie sound and I think that’s makes it unique to the rest of his discography. Songs like Changes are basically completely unique to any other Rocky song, and I love it.

Purity is everything this ... read more

A$AP Rocky - AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP
89

On AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP not only is the production fantastic as always but Rocky makes a drastic increase in his songwriting.
Songs like Holy Ghost and Canal St. are some of the best written songs Rocky has ever realized.

Many rap songs attempt this “psychedelic” feel, or trying to make the listener feel like they are under the influence of drugs. L$D is the most successful of any rap song at doing so. It is straight out of a rap version of The Dark Side Of The Moon. His has this ... read more

A$AP Rocky - LONG.LIVE.A$AP
85

Rocky’s debut album, after his acclaimed mixtape LIVE.LOVE.A$AP is an ambitious cloud rap project. This album is very similar to LIVE.LOVE.A$AP for the most part but it has unique ideas as well.

Obviously since this is a A$AP Rocky album, the production is the main focus. While there are tons of great performances the production is usually what makes the song. While some of the beats can be boring and stale at times, for the most part there are fantastic beats.

LVL is a song I could ... read more

Gorillaz - Demon Days
90

One of the most creative and well produced albums of the 2000s. David Albarn from Blur decided to create a fictional band with artist Jamie Hewlett. The members of the band are all just David Albarn, however this is basically a collab album with legendary Hip Hop producer Danger Mouse.

On Demon Days Albarn creates a soundscape using impeccable world building of Pop, Hip Hop, Rock, Electronic, Dance and more. Songs like Feel Good Inc have this infectious vibe and amazing instrumentation and a ... read more

Mos Def - Black on Both Sides
97

Mos Def is one of the best rappers of all time. He has arguably the best flow of any rapper ever and he’s a fantastic songwriter. Black On Both Sides is a lengthy but highly consistent album.

Ms. Fat Booty is one of the best hip-hop songs of the 90s. The sample flip is so perfect. Mos uses one of the best flows I’ve ever heard on this track, his slides voice slides so perfectly over this instrumental. This song has amazing storytelling as well and is just an entertaining ... read more

Drake - Take Care
70

Take Care is often cited as being Drakes best album. On Take Care he shows what makes him “special”, his vulnerability.

This album thrives on its atmospheric production, largely handled by Noah “40”, who drenches beats in reverb, heavy synths, and filtered drums. Songs like Marvin’s Room capture a midnight-lonely feeling. While songs like Headlines are triumphant.

I think Drake really shines on songs like Headlines, where his melodies while he’s rapping ... read more

Silk Sonic - An Evening With Silk Sonic
85

This album is so smooth. I never really liked Bruno Mars’ music because it never stood out to me, it just seemed like basic pop music. I always knew he had talent, but he really lets it show on this album.

Anderson .Paak & Bruno Mars are a match made in heaven, they both have undeniable talent and they bring the best out of each other. Making a 60/70 soul inspired album makes this album stand out so much compared to the rest of Bruno Mars’ music. This album is creatively ... read more

Danny Brown - Atrocity Exhibition
97

I first heard of Danny Brown because of Scaring the Hoes, and at that time I hated his voice. I genuinely would’ve said that he has my least favorite voice in music. However, now I actually like his voice a lot, it’s so different and it matches the manic feel of his music perfectly.

Atrocity Exhibition, simply put, is insane. It’s arguably the most creative record released in the 2010s decade and of all time. Sonically it’s one of the most insane journeys that any album ... read more

Lil Dicky - Earth

I remember watching the music video for this when it first came out and being so confused. This is seriously in the argument for the worst song ever made.

Sampha - Lahai
89

I don’t care how long it takes him to release albums if he’s gonna make them like this. Sampha has one of the most beautiful voices of the past 20 years. He sounds like a literal angel. The instrumentation is just as beautiful as his voice. The instrumentals on this album fit his voice and his style so perfectly. The drumming on this album is so good, the strings, the pianos are so beautiful.

Sampha’s singing is catchy and his lyrics are often very encouraging. These songs ... read more
