Autechre - Quaristice

Lacks the magic of most of their releases. A couple great songs sprinkled in but I was not invested in anything else. I understand the sequencing is supposed to be erratic, but that's not what I come to this band for. Overall a fine album but nothing I would return to besides my favorites.

The album cover represents the music perfectly. Abrasive drums, colorful guitars and synths, and skeletal electronics all come together to make a completely unique experience. A bit of a lull with tracks 5 and 6 but nothing to really complain about here. The last 3 songs end the record SO well. Overall a fantastic album

Autechre - SIGN

This album is 50% beautiful ambient synthy meditations that fill my mind with beautiful colors and landscapes, and the other 50% is half-baked IDM songs with no progression. I don't have a profound hatred for the IDM cuts, but I think the truly special parts of this album just make them so much more boring. Overall a mixed bag, but it has some of their best songs ever.

Favorites: 1, 6, 8, 9, 11

I don’t often create scenes and scenarios with music, but for some reason this album made that a lot easier for me. The vast and empty soundscapes paired with the broken transmission and sailing motifs paint an unmistakable picture of the ocean in my mind. I was completely immersed throughout this entire listen, and I will be returning to this many many times.

Favorites: 1, 4, 10, but kinda all of them

This album definitely felt like a cohesive experience. The second disc absolutely CLEARS the first, it’s crazy how different they were in quality. This thing is also long as FUCK, and it feels that way. Some phenomenal tracks along the way. Overall, its an experience that I would go back to, but not often.

Super solid IDM album with good range and great production. It doesn't have its own defined soundscape like any of their other albums, which makes it unique in their catalog nonetheless. Less extreme highs and lows than some of their other projects too, its for sure one of their most consistent albums. Great stuff
