Falling In Reverse - Popular Monster

2024 can't help but go between the best music and the worst. On average, it's a whatever year. But unlike normal years, that's because it is 50/50 between the best music of the decade, and the worst. This is the price for Porter Robinson.

Caspian - Dust & Disquiet
48

I've never understood the appeal to Caspian. While they aren't bad, it feels like potentially the least ambitious post rock possible. They don't really like to stray away from their sound, and it isn't terribly unique to begin with. That being said they do the 1 thing they do well, so I don't mind listening to it every once in a while.

Audiolepsia - Muses

First person to review or rate this I guess lol

It's a pretty generic post rock album, I enjoy it because it's not boring, but it feels pretty bland nonetheless.

I'd compare it mostly to April rain. Here I feel less emotion coming through on the songs, but I enjoy a lot of the metal riffs they use towards the end of their songs. It's a bit all over the place and I think they'd do better commiting to the metal "parts" of their style as opposed to the lighter ... read more

Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon
92

My best friends dad opened a pink floyd themed yoga business when I was younger and I now realize I potentially never saw the man sober in all the years I knew him. At least it wasn't Green Day themed.

The Electric Prunes - Release of an Oath
52

Christian rock enjoyers remain in shambles with this one.

Jon Hopkins - Immunity
85

Surely there's a joke to be made that Jon Hopkins' best song is called "immunity".

In any case, this is an extremely laid back and enjoyable album. Very peaceful.

Jeff Buckley - Grace
100

I had to think a lot about deciding whether this really would be a 10 for me. I feel like I get so wrapped up in seeing a high user score, and feel like if I don't like it too, something is wrong with me. As a result, the first time I heard this album, I was just looking for a reason to not like it. I don't usually like singer-songwriter, and I'm not religious at all, so obviously that means I "can't" connect with a lot of the subject matter.

Of course this is ... read more

Taylor Swift - THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT
27

I'm taking out my anger on the 17 reissues of this mid ass album on the only version of it anyone with a pulse will listen to. This actually isn't bad, I'm just tanking scores in hopes of forgetting vultures 2 exists. In reality this is like a flat 5/10.

-1 point from 50 for every reissue.

EDIT: 33-28

STOP REISSUING THIS ITS NOT SUPPOSED TO GO THIS LOW

EDIT: 28-27

I fear that this albums corpse will be battered this holiday season

¥$ - VULTURES 2
12

Are we all listening to the same thing? How is this getting a 40? Even the "good" songs on this are like, beyond half assed and tired sounding. I didn't listen to vultures 1 cuz why should I. Gave this a shot cuz I got nothing better to do and I'm just in shock. Is this really what kanye is now? Sleepily moaning over a beat similar to someone trying to recreate aphex twins' drukqs from memory? Is this really your goat?

The Flashbulb - Kirlian Selections
65

Bloated as fuck, but has some great songs. Kirlian shores is the standout for me.

The Killers - Sam's Town
74

I loved this album in high school, but unfortunately I don't listen back to it the way I once did. The good songs here are great, but the misses really stink

Passion Pit - Gossamer
84

This album is great, definitely has a lot more depth than people afford it

Porter Robinson - SMILE! :D
87

Gossamer by passion pit but way better

65daysofstatic - No Man's Sky: Music for an Infinite Universe
98

I've never played the game, but this soundtrack from 65daysofstatic is incredible. They're one of my favorite bands, and they've been experimenting with electronic post rock forever. IMO on this soundtrack they really just nail it. It's such a great genre fusion and I think both are used so well to create a very strong ambience, with its electronic elements serving to accent the post rock to really push the narrative of isolation and exploration, reflecting on the vastness ... read more

The Evpatoria Report - Golevka
79

Bad post rock sounds good, but feels empty. While this is not the most mind blowing album I've ever heard, there's such a strong connection this album has with me that I think most people could relate to. It's a feeling of true reflection or growth. Not one pushed on you or forced from experiences, but a natural development that comes with looking into your life and pulling meaning from old things. It's an album that, while initially feeling like it may want to crush you in ... read more

Daturah - Reverie
78

Criminally underrated post rock.

Gojira - From Mars to Sirius
100

Accidentally deleted my rating when I meant to delete old review :/

This album is just wild to me. Gojira is handily my favorite metal band, and I just feel as though the ideas here really push what metal can do. This album constantly switches up between being prog metal and death metal, and it results in a very rewarding listen. While an hour is definitely long, especially considering how off the wall aggressive this album is, it's very balanced. It never feels like its losing momentum, ... read more

Angels of Light - How I Loved You
78

This is actually incredibly good. Gira gothic country is not something I had on my bingo card but holy shit

The Dismemberment Plan - Emergency & I
79

This album does wonders in conveying super awkward thoughts in emotions in a way that feels genuine, but doesn't clash with the instrumental. It's super easy for stuff like this to come across and cringey or fake, but in this case it really just works. It describes confusion and feeling everyone feels from time to time, without making you feel guilty for having them. Really a fantastic listen.

System of a Down - Toxicity
100

Top 5 album, just an insane experience start to finish. How can something carry this much energy without being tiring?

"@Scunge I think it has less to do with intensity but more on the artists vision (or lack thereof). A lot of the albums I have as 10's are post rock, and the most common theme in them is the albums being made with a very strong sense of purpose. That purpose or vision for the music gets communicated very effectively, making it a very unique genre for sure."

"Totally agree with your thoughts on suffocate. It took me a pretty long time to build up the tolerance to the vocals on this album, but suffocate is such a great song and after listening to it for a couple months, the rest of the album just clicked. Glad to see I'm not the only one enjoying the suffocate -> metal catharsis pipeline."
