Following my realization with the Magdalena Ray album that, if it's not clicking despite being something I "should" like, just listen to it really loud. Radiohead is a band I used to struggle getting anything from. I found the vocals to be whatever and the instrumental to be crummy. That being said, in rainbows is the album I think recently really started taking over as their best in most people's mind and while I've listened to it a few times before, I didn't ... read more
For some reason I decided to relisten to this in the trenches of my brain being turned to mush writing a paper, and man I am stupid for not thinking much of this the first time around. I think I just need to start listening to albums louder if I am not really feeling them the first time around. This went from forgettable with kind of annoying sounding vocals to so vivid and colorful upon relisten I honestly am not sure it's even the same album.
I think comparing this to the Minecraft soundtrack really just serves to confuse some of what this album is about, but I think it is still a strong comparison. Especially on a song like Rain dance, which about halfway through really does sound like something right off the MC soundtrack (good thing). Outside of that, the album does a great job of delivering a peaceful environment as you'd expect from an ambient album. It's called Wet Land and well, there's a lot of ... read more
I have no idea what piece of content this was made for, but it sounds great. Sounds very mysterious and uncomfortable, but in a calming way.
Need more ambient recommendations please I am begging
It's nice having an album this bad from an artist that isn't a terrible person.
Easily the cleanest of the trilogy and one of the most coherent Swans albums. I think of the trilogy as "stages" with the seer being hellish and dreadful, to be kind being a more bleak, but very "present" album, and this as the ascension.
While describing it as an ascension could make people think it is now going to be upbeat, I think a more accurate description is this album is about coming to terms with your life and accepting all it has. Through this way of thinking The ... read more
It has the best song of all time on it. This score is not within my control.
#19 is the closest I can ever come to feeling like I am being teleported to the top of an isolated mountain and achieving pure zen. I've listened to this song genuinely 100's of times by now and am confident if I could only listen to 1 song for the rest of my life, it'd be this.
The entire rest of the album is good, but I feel as though #19 strongly symbolizes the power this album has. While every ... read more
I had no idea who Geordie Greep was going into this, music he's been a part of in the past, or even what genre this would be. Just saw the user score and was feeling new music following gy!be.
This album is just surreal though. Listening to it just feels like altered brain chemistry. The sound, lyrics and feel of the album are just perfect, and immediately clicked with me. The lyrics are insane and so over the top, but communicate the thoughts and feelings so effectively regardless. The ... read more
Did not expect any song as good as babys in a thundercloud to come out from them again. Will review properly once I collect my thoughts more.
Really enjoyable album if you catch it in the right mood. Does a great job emphasizing the helplessness you may feel in dealing with your own emotions. Songs are overall great to listen to, my only complaint is that not all songs feel necessary, I think if the album were a bit shorter, it'd be a stronger listen overall. That being said I keep coming back to it and enjoying it, definitely worth a listen.
Very intense album, hoping I enjoy the fragile more. While I loved a lot of the sounds and ideas here, I also found a lot of the subject matter to not connect with me. While I typically have no issues with uncomfortable ideas, I felt unable to connect with what was expressed in some songs, and lost interest as a result. Definitely a strong revisit candidate.
I have come to accept people will either really like Boris making 3 albums that sound similar or hate them. Personally I love them. Between this, flood and pink, this is the weakest, but only because the other 2 really transform into something a lot more atmospheric and distinct (imo). While I can understand the criticism of these sounding sameish to an extent, I'd disagree, and I'd look to listen to different Boris albums at different times, as I really do find them very different ... read more
Co-exists with deathconsciousness and the seer as the "death/afterlife" albums except instead of being horrifically dark and horrible, this is a lot more peaceful in its own way. Sucks to bring up swans again but if deathconsciousness compares to the Seer, this compares to the Glowing Man in a similar way. Hopefully that comparison helps if you (also) do nothing but listen to swans all day.
More focused on the actual music now-
First off none of this feels like a live album in the ... read more
If this was the only album I could give a 10, everything else would be like a flat 9 by comparison.
Hard to really describe this album. It just feels so human. First time I heard storm I just couldn't believe what I've heard and this album has stayed on top since then. Type of album I would show aliens to convince them not to kill everyone.
Fully expecting to not love this as much in like 15 years, definitely peak music to listen to in your 20's though. I heard this years ago when I was 16/17 and my impression was "this is dumb" and then I went back to lift your skinny fists on loop. This album finally clicked early in the year, and I've been listening to it pretty regularly ever since. It's not a terribly complicated album by any means, but it has an energy to it that really captures that feeling of not ... read more
