You know what the worst thing about this album is? It will show up in my last.fm history :///
I'm still waiting for something that production wise is as intricate as Let England Shake. PJ Harvey sounds kind of tired on here and the sparse instrumentation are not able to lift her vocals.
A lot of interesting stuff on here. The track that starts at 3 minutes and something is crazy. Really excited for the new album
Holy shit, I can't believe the only reason why this isn't higher on the aoty list is because some hungover dumb guy used this album as an excuse for his alcohol-induced headache.
This album is pure bliss. Even if you do not like it, you have to appreciate its beauty. It is a patient record that at times explodes into what I can only describe as pure magic.
Stellar record that captures the essence of raw emotion-driven music. The simple yet absolutely captivating minimalist approach to the production pays off all across the board. Not an easy listen, but one that becomes progressively immersive as the small nuances in the songwriting are discovered.

Listening to Songs of Leonard Cohen is like reading a really good book. This is The Sun Also Rises of music.
As soon as the first track starts you will be greeted by the same atmosphere that surrounds all of Low Roar's albums. It is always depressing, always sonically unique, always powerful. I think it is hard to always enjoy the constant lamentation that is Low Roar's music, even if it sounds amazing. There is not a single beam of colour penetrating through the darkness that occupies this album. Compared to 0, this record is lacking in all aspects. The lyrics are old, the production is bolder, but ... read more
On DAMN. Kendrick throws out solid punches at everyone from Fox News to his contemporaries and consolidates his position as one of the most important artists in the mainstream. Aside from the weird choice of features Kendrick rolls lone wolf on this one and it shows. Lyrically, Kendrick is aggressive and brazenly blunt. "Nobody is praying for me"
The 70s, 80s inspired production has been replaced with something that actually sounds like "Kendrick Lamar" and not a cluster of ... read more
It sounds like many of the really indie british pop artists that I used to listen to. The kind of artists to have 2.000 monthly listeners on spotify. Freddie Dickson, Tenterhook, Big Sixes come to mind. It is not revolutionary or overly experimental, but rather just 'nice' to listen to.
It is a nice track
There are definitely some fantastic tracks, but they are a rare sight in between all the tracks that just embody chaotic, meaningless and directionless experimentalism.
Arca's vocals are hauntingly angel-like and without them the album would not have been nearly as compellingly enigmatic. Even though Arca sings in Spanish, the feelings behind the lyrics shine through crystal-clear. That is not an easily achievable feat.

I was a huge fan of I Love You, Honeybear and less so when it came to Fear Fun. As you can expect, I was fairly stoked for this album.
Right off the bat, this whole album is an hour of piano ballads, and FJM is far from owning it. It sounds like he's singing over a pre-recorded track and has no sense for where the track is going. That's basically how the whole album goes. Tillman wants to sing about something with no regard to what he's singing to.
The "clever" cynisism that FJM's ... read more
Destroyer is by far my favorite lyricist and he shows exactly why on Streethawk. A Seduction. While the instrumentation in most of the tracks is slightly lacking compared to Destroyer's Rubies, the lyrics are absolutely stellar. I am even feeling a David Bowie vibe on songs like The Very Modern Dance and Farrar, Straus & Giroux (Sea of Tears). My only big complaint with this album is its abundance of filler songs.
The Heart Part 4 > this
and by a large margin
I honestly see no difference between Kendrick on here and many other contemporary trap artists. His flow is clunky on and the half trap beat he has going on does not help him either. What the shit happened between this and The Heart Part 4?
A Crow Looked at Me is a head-on collision with grief. Mount Eerie tackles death bluntly and in absolute honesty. In contrast to the relatively complex symbolism of Carrie & Lowell and Skeleton Tree, ACLAM is extremely articulate and does nothing to hide the immense grief that tends to immerse other albums in the dark symbolism that often drowns the overall message. A Crow Looked at Me is perhaps the most sophisticated way of coping, I do not know. Maybe the most grotesque or even ... read more
Absolutely groundbreaking for its time. Ege Bamyasi incorporates elements from contemporary rock as well as jazz. It is so effortlessly mixed together in such a dynamic, atmospheric package full of what feels like carefully constructed sonic chaos. I personally feel that Ege Bamyasi does everything Tago Mago was not able to do and then some. Ege Bamyasi has a much stronger sense of direction. Also, why are the drums so damn crisp??
