Amazing.
Andrew Bird manages to be experimental and at the same time stay true to his style. All the tracks after The Supine are just so mellow and heartbreaking. I am in love with it
The only thing that sounds like Frank Ocean in this track is Frank's vocals. This does not even sound like a b-side to Blonde. The production does not sound like Frank Ocean at all either.
It's different
I think Vagabon manages to captures that whole fragile-but-also-strong vibe pretty well. While the vocals are great and the song-writing is mostly engaging, the sound is only passable. The simple finger picking that dominates most of the tracks and the horribly cliché production in Cold Apartment comes to mind. It is traditional indie rock at its most familiar and comfortable place.
The first two tracks are absolutely stellar, though.
Low Roar has always been a very "visual" conveyor of music. The sound of balls hitting the floor, clocks ticking and chairs creaking are all familiar sounds of Low Roar's music. In "0" it was carefully implemented and it sounded like an integral part of the music. In the new single, however, it sounds way too forced and the upbeat tempo of the song does not fit their style at all. I was thoroughly disappointed in this single.
I am super excited for the full album. Brother Ali carries such a deeply passionate message of love and compassion. I'm in love with it all.
Not a fan, sounds like a dumbed down version of what a mix of Nicolas Jaar and Burial would be ://
it makes me angry/sad that only very few people in the future will get close to making something of this quality
It seems like Ed Sheeran has expanded his horizons a tad, developing his sound ever so slightly, and it is almost NOT negligible.
Still not good.
Also, that whole math operations theme he has going with the albums, do people think that is clever? I mean, if they actually carried some meaning and if "Divide" was the overall theme in the album, it would have at least meant something. But it doesn't, it is simple symbolism, and it just shows how lazy Ed Sheeran is. They could not care ... read more
This is just so mundane, Lorde disappoints with a track that smells of mainstream pop influences, rather than something with a bit more depth to it.
Mark Kozelek should voice audiobooks
I expect it to be at least somewhat interesting stories. Sometimes they are, but those moments are far and in between in this 2 hour record. It feels like a chronologic rundown of his experiences since his last project.
And the instrumentation is just as boring as his storytelling this time around. He's basically speaking over slighty more sophisticated elevator music. I was hoping for another Benji, but instead this is like Benji drawn out over double ... read more
Unless someone comes out with something extremely extraordinary this year, then I have found my aoty of 2017 already.
After listening to Nonagon Infinity, I'm absolutely amazed at the progress in terms of the sound. FMB is a masterpiece in its own right. The fusion of Turkish instruments and folk/psychadelic elements into King Gizzard's style is perfectly balanced. The album is very reminiscent of some of the best Turkish psychadelic rock albums in the 70s/60s. They go all out on the Turkish ... read more
Havong lived with Turkish music throughout the better half of my childhood, I have to say Mustafa Özkent is by far the most interesting Turkish artist I have ever heard. His funky, psychadelic music is overflowing with subtle Turkish influences. It makes for one of my most interesting listens to date. While the psychadelic rock scene used to be HUGE in Turkey, I have not heard anything like this.
Aside from all that, the album art is hilarious, they even spelled folk wrong.
Sea as it Glides is a fresh breath of air into the long range of Folk songs from "indie" artists that are starting to sound monotonous. It is also the only song alongside I Live Now as a Singer, that I thought were out of the ordinary.
Not Even Happiness is not a special album but builds upon its solid foundation with nicely sounding tunes.
The songwriting is generally dismissible (aside from in "I Live Now as a Singer"). Julia's vocals are pretty amazing.
I have been listening to Amber Run ever since I got into indie rock and I actually really liked 5AM. 2 years ago I was jamming to that shit on the daily. However, after revisiting Amber Run after 1-2 years, I do not feel the same connection that I did 2 years ago. 5AM is still an above average record for me, but the feeling of nostalgia that I expected to rain down on me never came.
As soon as I put on For A Moment, I Was Lost, I was overjoyed by how far Amber Run has progressed in terms of ... read more
Joanna Newsom isn't on spotify, so this is the second best thing I could find
Amazing single, Ibeyi has developed their sound tremendously since I last heard them in their self-titled debut. It is the same amazing vocals, but the production has reached a new level of vibrancy and complexity.
Reading an interview with William Basinski, I found that there is a huge difference between what I think this sounds like and what William Basinski intends it to sound like. That was what really put me off this album. I was so immersed in it and when I found out that it had nothing to do with everything I imagined, I was frankly pretty disappointed. I feel that Basinski failed to create a consistent picture inside the head of the listener by just saying that the loops are just, and I quote, ... read more
Process is like taking a tour through inside Sampha's head with the backdrop being an entanglement of vibrant colours. Even though Process is full of melancholy it is also full of energy and its amazing production is a testament to that.
