Quite possibly the heaviest album I have ever heard, even heavier than the monster dookie I just dropped.
The production is flawless, the screams are impossibly heavy, the changes in song structure are executed perfectly and arrive at the most appropriate times. It can be hard to listen to, because of how relentlessly abrasive it remains throughout its 77 minute duration. It's not a record I listen to often because of this, but when I am in the mood for this truly obliterating, painful, ... read more
This jawn is a straight vibe
Honestly did not expect to enjoy this as much as I did, especially considering the fact I couldn't even make it through 2 songs a few years back. An intriguing listen that stays very true to its roots while still sounding like Tomahawk (and of course like a vintage Patton record). Most of the experiments on this record are executed astonishingly well, especially the one riff they keep bringing back throughout the duration of the thing. It does get a bit too ... read more
One of the most creative, unique, and absolutely inspiring hardcore punk records I've ever heard, and among the finest projects of Patton (and everyone else involved, if I'm being honest)
Favorites: Grave Slave, Church of the Motherfuckers, Seizure and Desist, Shillelagh, Bela Lugosi's Dead
Way better than I remember it being, thoroughly intriguing and hard hitting throughout. Not just a run of the mill hardcore record and not just experimental for the sake of being experimental. Code Orange comfortably rides the line between thosebtwo sides of modern hardcore records on this one, much more memorably than on Forever..
Favorites: I Am King, Starve, Unclean Spirit, Mercy, My World, Dreams In Inertia
Like most of Patton's work, this record makes for a relatively unpredictable and mildly uncomfortable listen. Tomahawk is one of his more accessible projects, but this album definitely carries enough strangeness and is idiosyncratic enough in its delivery to please fans of even the most absurd of Patton's projects
Favorites: Aktion 13fh, Mayday, You Can't Win, Desastre Natural, Birdsong
Favorite rap/hip hop album ever made, from an aesthetic standpoint. A truly unique and charismatic performance from Danny with help from some of the best instrumentals I've ever heard
Favorites: When it Rain, Dance in the Water, Hell for It, Tell Me What I Don't Know, Ain't It Funny
Not as good as Atrocity Exhibition or XXX but still very good
Favorites: Negro Spiritual, Savage Nomad, Theme Song, Dirty Laundry, Combat
Blew my mind the first time I heard it a few years ago. Utterly flawless and one of the most cathartic and beautiful listening experiences ever.
Favorites: Concubine, Fault and Fracture, Distance and Meaning, Hell to Pay, Homewrecker, The Broken Vow, Bitter and Then Some, Heaven in Her Arms, Phoenix in Flight, Phoenix in Flames, Thaw, Jane Doe
Edited to give a higher score (was 71). Y'all Tripping, this album FUCKS 😤
Very good spazzy, sassy, quirky mathgrind. Nothing like their other records but still a fun listen. Very same-sounding from one song to the next, but it's 11 minutes so it's not really much of an issue.
Favorites: Fur Beach, The Ghost With the Most, Damn Those Bloodsuckers
If it weren't for Cheers, Pricks being overlong and a lot of the songs kind of bleeding into each other, this would be perfect. Still a great record anyway
Favorites: Recorded Inside A Pyramid, Hyperventilationsystem, The Fuck Whisperer, Fiery
I've listened to this thing countless times and seen them live several times in the past year or so, plus once before this album came out. And somehow, I'm still not even remotely close to being tired of hearing these songs. One of the greatest records I have ever heard, ever.
Favorites: Guest House, Ocean Song, Satan in the Wait, The Flammable Man, Daughter
Lyrically more direct than usual and musically their most compelling in years. Definitely well worth the wait
Best songs: Feedbag, Normalization Blues, Loudmouth, A Big Day For Grimley, Body Terror Song
