I’ve heard this three times in full now and each time I’ve fallen in love with this more and more. The first time through I felt as though Sufjan was grieving deeply, and knowing now that this record is in memorial to his late partner the emotional impact of the record is tenfold. Every track feels so sorrowful, yet hopeful- in a way none of stuff to date has. Not to mention the incredibly unique production. Atm I still slightly prefer Carrie and Lowell but this could honestly ... read more
The most profound reflection on human morality I have ever heard. Despite it being 6 and a half hours I earnestly beleive every person should listen through this entire project at least once, in chunks or not. The final five minutes are probably the most moved I have ever been by music. This is an album that’s hard to categorize since you obviously can’t casually listen to most of it, but God I love this thing dearly
On paper, you’d think the idea of songs about Christianity backed by primarily banjo would be awful, but this is in fact great
So much weirdness it’s awesome. The closer does lose its luster on every listen past the first one and could’ve been way shorter but still, amazing album
These are some of the catchiest songs I have ever heard, easily Sufjan’s least complex but who cares these songs are such bangers
Such a vibe. Also wtf his high range sounds genuinely great here woah
What do you get when you cross one of the best rock bands of all time, one of the best modern female vocalists, and stevie fucking wonder? An absolute beauty. One of the best songs of the year and honestly in the top ten of the Stones’ stuff in total which is mindblowing. Genuinely feels like the modem equivalent to Gimme Shelter in that this track feels like it has a deeply important message that everyone should hear, establishing yet again why the Stones are one of the best rock bands ... read more
The Blackstar of Hip-hop. Absolutely beautiful send off, grown on me majorly since I heard it last
Incredible lyrics and some of these songs are genuinely incredible, like Ptolemaea and Family Tree. The production can def be overpowering at points and there are noticeably major duds (Gibson Girl), but I enjoyed this more than I thought I would for sure
Way countrier than his other stuff and certainly has less depth, but it’s nice to hear Rhett having much more fun without such grim subject matter. Looking forward to the new EP for sure
One of the coolest backstories to an album I’ve ever heard, not to mention some really dope lofi rock
This is my first experience fully listening through a Mitski album and DAMN. This thing is incredibly beautiful. There are so many left turns and intriguing production choices sprinkled all throughout this thing that make it feel so beautiful yet also very eerie at the same time. Every track is great and some are among the best tracks I’ve heard this year like the opener, The Deal, and the closing track. From what I’ve heard of her stuff, which is admittedly not a ton, this is ... read more
I will say I think there could’ve been a far grander conclusion to the Nas and Hit collab but this was still dope, the second half especially. I think this is def better than Magic 2 and potentially the first Magic but still probably weaker than all three King’s Disease. Still for Nas to be putting out albums this solid so far into his career shows that he’s (at least one of) the GOAT
