Gwenno - Tresor
86

Gwenno is an artist who uses her Cornish and Welsh backgrounds to create mysterious, ethereal art pop music, and Tresor is just the latest in a long history. This album is a really good project, and while I wouldn't be recommending it for casual listening to my pophead friends, those who get it will really get it. This is another example of absolutely sterling work from the Celtic songstress.

Willie Nelson - A Beautiful Time
92

At the age of 89, with 96 previous studio albums, one could understand if Willie Nelson chose to just phone it in on his new projects. However, he clearly has no intention of doing that, instead using his advanced age as a topic of narration and storytelling on this album. It's a real tear-jerker and it feels as if Willie really wanted to prove he could live up to his legend status even now.

Luke Combs - Growin' Up
77

After his successful previous album and his triumph at the CMAs, winning Best Entertainer, I was expecting something very good indeed from Luke Combs. Well, this is pretty good, but I have to rip the Band-Aid off and admit that I'm mightily disappointed. This album feels, more than anything else, like a parody of Luke Combs with over-the-top bumpkin lyrics and honky-tonk guitars.

Dolly Parton - Run, Rose, Run
82

Dolly Parton needs no introduction. She is an absolute legend of country music, and one of the most iconic voices of American music. While her output has taken a dip in quality from her glory days, this album is absolutely a solid effort and shows that she still has the ability and passion to make another legendary album if she wants to. Contrary to the track list on here, I really love "Woman Up (And Take It Like A Man).

Ghost - IMPERA
78

Ghost are a band steeped in pageantry and kayfabe, and when you go into one of their albums, it's worth reading up on the goings on with them. Now, their current leader is Papa Emeritus IV (same guy as 1 through 3, peeling back the curtain), and he has produced an album that revels in its 80s rock cheesiness while also being really well-produced and a banger from head to toe. I have to say that IMPERA is really sterling work from Tobias and his nameless ghouls.

Leah Kate - 10 Things I Hate About You
10

this is fire. insofar as it's physically painful to be around, has a slightly vile stench to it, and frankly i need a team of brave people to save me.

Meat Loaf - Dead Ringer for Love
80

Very good rock song, definitely one that's going to be Marmite in how listener will receive it. Luckily though, I love it.

Taylor Swift - Red
65

Red is absolutely a clear marker of the change in Taylor Swift's music- away from the naive girl doing country into the swagger-filled infallible popstar. Unfortunately, that results in an album that is not sonically cohesive, and ends up coming off very directionless and disjointed. The pop songs are also not the best produced I've ever heard. I do really enjoy a lot of the slower and acoustic songs though. Special praise has to go to "All Too Well" and "State of Grace" for ... read more

Misscatylove - Intro
0

It is worth noting that this isn't actually some trangressive, Merzbow-esque example of new genres being introduced to Eurovision out of love. No, not at all. It's instead just an overhyped memeposter from Manchester whose age could be anywhere between 10 and 18 (reports vary and no one has ever verifiably come forward as Misscatylove) who thought it would be funny to send corrupted noise to the Moldovan broadcaster to troll an economically struggling country. I hate this compressed mess and ... read more

Pale Waves - Unwanted
90

Mancunian rockers Pale Waves chose to use this album as the time to change sounds a little, getting heavier and more reminiscent of noughties pop-punk. It's certainly a change that benefits the vocal talents of the frontwoman, Preston's Heather Baron-Gracie. Production handled by the respected Zakk Cervini also helps the album sound absolutely gorgeous across thirteen very solid tracks.

Tate McRae - i used to think i could fly
41

This album is, quite frankly, evidence that Tate McRae's huge fanbase and acclaim would not come so easily to her if not for her prior fame as a dancer. I don't quite know what music she wants to make, but it's absolutely clear that RCA want her to make Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo tracks. To borrow a phrase from another horribly mid album, this is divinely uninspired to a hellish extent.

Lukas Graham - 7 Years
7

Certainly this is... a song.

Taylor Swift - Speak Now
84

This is my favourite of the three Taylor Swift albums I have reviewed so far, and definitely acts as a fitting finish to her first trilogy of albums. Packed full of very well-made country-pop that is literally impossible not to sing along to, Speak Now is everything Taylor can be at her best, when she can strip back the unnecessary pretention and cattiness to make a great album.

57

This broke me, it really did. I don't have the mental ability to make a coherent review right now.

10/10 would rot my brain again.

RERATED: 26 -> 57

This is a lot of fun. It's McDonalds music. It's not crafted well, the ingredients suck, but my God do I keep coming back.

Taylor Swift - Fearless
80

The sophomore album from Pennsylvania's favourite singer named Taylor Swift (the lack of comma is not unintentional), Fearless, is a very solid follow-up to her eponymous debut. However, it lacks just a little bit of the really good pop production that helps the debut album to its higher score. I still really like this, but it's just a rung or two below the self-titled. However, "Love Story" is still an absolutely unrivaled banger.

BARBRA - QH.
42

Not the worst they've made but still poor.

Taylor Swift - Taylor Swift
82

This first, self-titled, album from pop behemoth Taylor Swift is often derided by some of her alleged biggest fans as being the worst in her discography. It really isn't, at least not in my view. It's really good. It has beautiful production for a 2006 country record, Taylor's lyrics do have a sense of teenage melodrama to them, but they come off well. A very solid first effort, we'll see how it goes from here.

Gabbie Hanna - Trauma Queen
68

Gabbie Hanna has earned a lot of derision, both as a human being- deservedly- and for her music- also deservedly. However, this is a big step up from the generic radio-friendly fluff she was trying to put out before, as she discovers that her raw, coarse voice actually fits rock songs and ballads well. Lyricism certainly is only ok at best, and some songs do let the project down, but I'd revisit this. Special recommendations have to go to "Rewired" and "Happy (In The End), as ... read more

renforshort - dear amelia
64

I actually generally like the music produced by renforshort, up-and-coming Canadian singer. With that said, I really couldn't get into this album with the exceptions of "don't come back" and "i thot you were cool". It's just very clearly made very cynically, not being a purely artistic project so much as it is designed to have tracks go viral on TikTok. Everyone needs to make money, but it's blatant.

aespa - Girls
68

One of South Korea's hottest up-and-coming four-piece girl groups, aespa, have dropped their EP "Girls", a follow up to "Savage". Unfortunately, this album is far from savage, it's just incredibly mid. It speaks volumes that the one song I come away from humming is the one that's been out for ages. There's definitely promise to this band, but it's not being met.
