Ooooh, boy. I really like this thing. This was one of the first albums I've ever been attached to, and it was really nostalgic revisiting it. Even though some of the lyricism in this thing has become a little bit dull (even a bit cringey), since it has some of the "this ain't no pop music" gibberish from Blurryface, I still find it emotive and sincere. It went hard on the "electropop" influence all throughout, basically every song relied heavy on synths and midis ... read more
Yet another Green Day album. First of all, to be honest, Nimrod has never been an album I return to a lot. I think it stays consistently good (80-90ish) for the whole tracklist, but there are not that many standouts, and even though I can think of the individual songs as good, I find the complete experience as kinda dull. But I still have it as like a top 5 in a Green Day ranking list.
Having said that, songs like Prosthetic Head, Haushinka and Redundant are great, they manage to be really ... read more
The amount of respect I have for this album cannot be overstated. Green Day, specifically "American Idiot", was one of my first musical obsessions since I was like 4 years old. Even though I didn't understand any of the words because English wasn't my first language, I remember putting this on every time I could and just murmuring gibberish. So yeah, I have a big personal connection to this thing.
Is it my favorite album? Not really. I feel like a lot of the tracks stand ... read more
I'M BACK, BABY. Okay, first of all, I'm reviewing the albums I have saved on my Spotify Likes, so expect plenty of emo pop slop at first since I stopped adding songs since like 3 years ago. When I finish with them, I'm gonna get into newer releases or just my newer taste in music.
That being said, honestly... It's not that bad. I expected this to be genuine horrible pop songs, but they are catchy. Some more than others, but not that bad for a post-"Pretty Odd" ... read more
I'll do a review later. I'm just gonna say that I'm really disappointed and pissed off.
This is one of the most personal, heart-felt albums that I've ever listened to in my life.
When I first heard this, it took me a lot of time to relisten. I remember it was like 4 AM and some of the tracks felt just like a deep conversation that you have with a close friend and them telling you about what's going on in their life and how they are progressing as a person. A pure therapy session. I felt dreadful at first but then... relieved that he's okay.
Kendrick Lamar's ... read more
Coming back to this album is weird. A Gorillaz record with Vince Staples, Danny Brown, Kelela, Pusha T, Mavis Staples, Popcaan, DRAM and Kali Uchis features sounds crazy now that I now a lot more about these artists... But at the same time, Humanz kinda feels like a Gorillaz-produced album with the guests being the main vocals.
The only way to describe this thing would be "club music", borrowing from genres like electropop, hip hop, disco, dance, house, synthpop, industrial, etc. I ... read more
Vibey, fun, vulnerable and well-executed ideas with some great production on top. This is a really solid pop rap album, even if I find some of the tracks a little weak (specially in the second half), it holds its power all throughout.
It has a lot of personality, the features are well placed and the lyrics are really upfront about what they are about, without losing the vulnerability, sincerity and depth about the topics. AND IT'S GAY, SO THAT'S AMAZING TO HAVE IN THE MAINSTREAM.
I don't like the trilogy that much (so daring of me to say, I know). Most of the tracks are either mediocre, boring or just cringey, so they are just riding the bottom tiers. Although, I think it was an interesting way of showing their creative process, since they were just recording songs, playing together and having fun and almost all of that material went straight into the three records. So I guess that's the reason why it's mostly super basic power pop and garage rock and why ... read more
When I was younger, I listened to Green Day's whole discography and this is the one that caught most of my attention aaand I think it stood the test of time. It's just a great tracklist with folk pop punk bangers that I think are quite decent and catchy. It's also a little experimental (the most obvious example being Misery), which I can appreciate from the band. I don't think is top tier but it's definitely worth a listen.
Wow, I didn't know that this thing was kinda hated. Honestly, I think this is a really solid album.
This is like a way better version of The Fall, although not as good as other projects like Plastic Beach or Demon Days, of course, this seems like a low-key and vibey tracklist. I see this as Gorillaz's "mixtape between albums". And it works pretty well if you take into account that this is the album leading up to Song Machine. Just a great listen.
Oh, brother.
I have a deep appreciation with this thing, because this was the first album that I have ever listened all the way through. Like sitting down and going through each track because I wanted to. So I bumped this quite a lot years ago. Coming back to it, it's clear that this is not the greatest thing ever and it's kinda carried by the nostalgia.
It's really inconsistent, because some songs seem like a really cool and epic track (a trend would clearly bleed and evolve ... read more
Paramore is one of the very few emo pop-punk bands from the 2000s that didn't die horribly. I had a problem with After Laughter and it was that the lyrics seemed really childish and fake deep for my taste. But I think it got completely fixed here, without sacrificing the replay value of the songs. A pretty good listen tbh.
At first it felt just like a good album and that's it, although it's been growing on me since I've heard it. It's fantastic. One of the best modern depictions of someone's coming of age. The vocals and production are great and unique, making this an emotional and intimate experience.
Pretty odd album for Panic! At The Disco, but I think it works really well. It has a lot of personality. The only thing I can imagine listening to this songs it's a long field of grass, trees, and people walking around with old fashioned clothes. Although, this album's charm can be sometimes a little exhausting, but in general I have a positive view of this record.
Honestly, it's way more expressive and emotional than I remembered it. Sometimes it can be cliché and boring but it's definitely diverse enough in sound, specially considering that it's their debut album. It's really fun and accesible as well.
This is the route Brendon Urie should've taken Panic! At The Disco.
Probably my favorite Daft Punk record because it's such an ode to different genres of music by also featuring some of the most relevant artists from each of them. The run from Give Life Back To Music to Get Lucky is godly. Giorgio By Moroder and Contact are such anthems and the build up in both it's incredible. Love this a lot.
An important album for jangle pop and bedroom pop. As an overall album it's a good, enjoyable and chill tracklist with standout moments all throughout it. Most of the album has this chill, laid back aesthetic, thanks to the mellow guitars and Mac DeMarco's soft voice, even when the volume and the energy are turned up, this album keeps the relaxing tone all the time.
The intro "Cooking Up Something Good" establishes the tone really well, a smooth and chill guitar-centered ... read more
One of the best albums that I've ever heard. Honestly, all the hype about it made me think that it was gonna be overrated, but not at all, I get why all the /mu/ heads love it. Eleven songs with an acoustic guitar that seems to lull you to sleep with how calm it sounds, while Jeff Mangum sings his verses with warmth and passion. Suddenly some trumpets, drums and distorted electric guitars will join in for the most up-tempo songs on the album. It's an amazing experience from start to finish, ... read more
First of all, this was the album that made me create this account. I have a lot of things to say, but in summary, I think this is one of the most beautiful, expressive and interesting albums that I've ever heard in my life.
As an overall album, this is immaculate. The way Will Toledo is able to build these complex and mesmerizing song structures through all the track list and the fact that it doesn't become boring or tiring at any moment since the first listen makes this a fun ... read more
