This is what music sounds like when you’re half asleep

Sigur Rós - ÁTTA

It may not be the most genre pushing or boundary breaking record but holy fuck is it beautiful

Doechii - Anxiety

That Somebody That I Used to Know sample goes so fucking hard oh my god

what is your name? - the now now and never
93

It fizzles out a bit in the last three tracks but my god when I say that this albums peaks are some of the most nostalgic feeling music I’ve ever heard I fucking mean it

山岡晃 [Akira Yamaoka] - Silent Hill 2 (Original Soundtracks)

Albums I need to listen to to finish the AOTY top 100 - #34

This didn’t rly hit as hard as some of the other soundtracks. I haven’t played any of the games or watched any of the movies for any of these soundtracks (except Minecraft) but they all felt like something that I’d return to. This one I’m not rly too sure about. There’s some great tracks on here but a lot of them just felt there. I kinda felt like I was missing a lot more here by not having played the ... read more

Ace of Thorns - maw
78

Another Ace album is crazy super excited tho. This was a really nice ep. Super relaxing. I do think the mixing could’ve been better but it lowkey kinda adds to the atmosphere of the album sometimes so I’m not gonna complain too much. Also Pavlov is an absolute banger.

Lady Gaga - MAYHEM
83

A really fun and mostly well produced pop album. The lyrics aren’t really anything too special for the most part but like is that really what you come to a lady Gaga album for? I don’t think it’s too different from any other lady Gaga song I’ve heard but that’s okay because it still sounds amazing here. There are definitely a few less than stellar tracks littered through that bring the album down but the highs are still great. I think the singles are absolutely the ... read more

Opeth - Still Life

This band has less misses than I have bitches

This is probably their most accessible record that I’ve heard so far. There is much less usage of the heavier more monstrous vocals on here. Instead Mikael does the more melodic vocal style you can see on tracks like Bleak and holy shit does it work so well. This album also has some unreal riffs. From start to finish this shit felt unrelenting. I think there is one obvious thing that makes this record so good however and that is the ... read more

WATCH. THIS. FUCKING. SHOW. This songs a banger. OH MY GOD PLS WATCH THIS SHOW ITS SO GOOD

Common - Be
97

Something about jazz rap Kanye production is just a recipe for pure unbridled peak. This album is absolutely incredible from start to finish. The production is gorgeous (ofc it is its early Kanye) with some incredible horns. The lyrics and performances were also great especially on the closer. This albums so relaxing and pleasing to the ears I feel like it would be great study music. Amazing project definitely up there in the albums Kanye is involved in

Shiro SAGISU - The End of Evangelion
98

Albums I need to listen to to finish the AOTY top 100 - #33

Evangelion has just skyrocketed to the top of my anime watchlist. This soundtrack is utterly breathtaking in every aspect. First of all there’s like a four track run in the middle of this (you can probably tell the tracks I’m talking about they all have 96s) that’s genuinely just unreal. The tracks with vocals are also absolutely stunning and serve as some of the most beautiful moments on the record. I really ... read more

Car Seat Headrest - Gethsemane

Car Seat Headrest Webquest reference

Boris - flood
94

I think this records highs easily eclipse Feedbacker highs but the first and last song aren’t really quite up to par. The last song especially just feels like a really empty and an underwhelming note to end on. That being said Flood 2 and 3 are both incredible and probably the best Boris songs. Flood 3 especially is one of the craziest post rock songs ever recorded. I’d say I slightly prefer this to feedbacker for the slightly improved atmosphere alone but they’re really kinda ... read more

Black Country, New Road - Happy Birthday
100

Oh my god I was gonna do a joke review but holy shit I am even more excited for this album. I love everything about this folkier almost medieval style of instrumentation. It’s so whimsical and fun and I can’t get enough of it. This is my most anticipated album of this year by far I can’t wait

Miles Davis - Kind of Blue

Albums I need to listen to to finish the AOTY top 100 - #31

This is much much more fitting to my taste than Bitches Brew. This feels much more concrete and way less directionless while also having more impressive instrumentation. John Coltrane (🐐) was also a very nice bonus. There was actually a pretty decent variety on here. So What is your traditional relaxing Jazz piece with some incredible sax. Freddie Freeloader is a lot catchier with a very nice rhythm. Blue in Green is a gorgeous, ... read more

Electric Masada - At the Mountains of Madness
95

Easily some of the craziest jazz I’ve ever heard. Jazz is, from what I’ve heard, a very relaxing genre and I was beginning to think that that was all there was to it. This album proved me wrong in so many different ways it’s insane. Every single song on here strikes a near perfect balance between smooth brass instrumentation and brutal guitar and electronic riffs. It’s one of the most relentless albums I’ve ever heard which is all the more impressive when looking ... read more
