SAME KIND OF LONELY is genuinely my soty at the moment although that’s only gonna last a few days bc besties is dropping Thursday
Shit makes me realize it’s been too long since I lived up to my name
If you’ve payed any attention at all to my account you’ll probably know two things about me. I love Kanye and I love live albums. This album is like a match made in heaven for me. There are so many unbelievable performances on here that far and away surpass their studio versions. Tracks like diamonds from Sierra Leone, touch the sky, heard em say, all falls down, and Jesus walks all lend themselves ... read more
This is a really interesting album. On the surface it just seems to be 5 spoken work stories over post rock instrumentals but when you dig a bit deeper it tells a really amazing story of growing up and grappling with the concept of fate. In the first song, Breadcrumb Trail, the narrator goes to a carnival and ends up asking out a fortune teller. They then ride a roller coaster over and over again and go their separate ways in the parking lot presumably never seeing each other again. This song ... read more
For being one of my favorite bands I really really hyperfixate on Afut. I actually haven’t listened to this album in forever and tbh I have no idea why. It’s full of absolute bangers from start to finish. This albums much more of a traditional take on post rock than Afut and I think it works really really well. I obviously prefer the more genre fluid Afut but I think the bands amazing instrumentation really gets to shine here (it literally never doesn’t). I don’t think ... read more
Please don’t lick your records guys
This was one of my most anticipated releases this year largely due to the incredible singles released in the previous months. The title track especially is absolutely gorgeous and had one of the greatest music videos of last year. If I’m being honest though the rest of this tracklist can be a bit hit or miss in areas. Songs like Striptease are absolutely unreal club bangers and then there’s songs like Childlike Things or Keep It, Hold it ... read more
What a delightfully weird yet fun record
This is an album that I actually discovered today while watching the bcnr episode of What’s in My Bag. This was one of the albums picked up by Charlie and it looked really interesting had had great reviews so I decided to check it out. This album is definitely bizarre. I can’t really put my finger on what makes me say that exactly but it reminds me heavily of in the aeroplane over the sea which is another very weird album. This is actually ... read more
Oh my fucking god. I didn’t expect that from Lil Yachty of all artists but this album is genuinely one of the greatest psychedelic albums I’ve ever heard. It feels very much so like a middle ground between something like awaken my love and prime Pink Floyd, the latter of which a lot of the album samples. This is actually a very sample and interpolation heavy album which I kinda wasn’t expecting considering this isn’t hip hop. Another aspect that this keeps from hip hop ... read more
When the worst song on the album is still one of the most beautiful songs ever made
An incredible posthumous release
I’m actually really familiar with Selena and her career despite never hearing any of her albums due to seeing the movie 3 times over the course of my 3 and a half years in Spanish classes. The movie is absolutely incredible so I’m glad I’m finally able to check out one of her albums. From what I can tell a lot of these songs are from some of her other albums and I think it works really nicely. The whole album has an incredible feeling of ... read more
How did I get here
So I have only heard one Xiu Xiu album, that being their new album, and I decided on a whim to put this on because 1. It’s short and I don’t have much time to listen to anything too long and 2. Because I thought it would be funny to go straight into Xiu Xiu’s most experimental work. Tbh I liked this a lot more than I was expecting. Sonically it’s somewhere in between The Money Store by Death Grips and The Litanies of Satan by Diamanda Galás. To ... read more
Mac’s estate proving yet again that posthumous albums can be good
To start this review I wanna just say thank you guys for 900 followers. When I started my account I didn’t even think I would get to 100 so the fact that I’ve made it this far really is amazing. This album has been the release I have been anticipating the most this year since its announcement back in 2024. Having never heard the leaked version I was really curious how this would sound and how it would compare ... read more
Definitely one of if not the greatest rock opera ever made. Conceptually this is an absolutely gorgeous story about a cancer patient and his relationship with death. It’s told out of order (if anyone knows why I’d actually love to know) and centers around two characters those being the patient and death. Throughout half the album you see the snarky and bratty patient in teenagers grow and mature as his life falls apart. The other half of the album is death going from hating the ... read more
This is literally just drone metal long season it’s amazing
Parts 2 and 3 especially were absolutely fucking insane but the whole album is just nuts. The instrumental is so dense and intense almost the whole way through and the more quiet build up moments complement those loud in your face climaxes perfectly. I do think the vocals took a bit away from the instrumental for me but they weren’t anything song ruining or anything like that. This album is absolutely bonkers and I’m ... read more
The live version from the game awards was fucking insane. The studio version is also amazing although I am heavily biased bc I love this show to death
