There's a fair amount of hype coming from this album, and I can understand why. There's a 90s/00s alternative light rock style that sweeps across this album that feels very connected to the likes of Spiritualized & wilco, this has been done by Bill on previous releases before, but not as cohesive and emotionally punchy as what is on this record.
There's a vulnerability and weakness that is exposed by Bill in these tracks which is shown in the delicate acoustic playing with plucky electric ... read more
I'm in awe that someone of Stygian's age, let alone anyone, can make something that's simple in its pieces but can build into an encasing feeling of the song being slowly wrapped around you with these slowly changing drone passages.
The instruments take mostly from the Scottish highlands that Stygian is based and puts this through a very raw recording process, making you feel like the two tracks are being performed live next to you in a hut close to where the sleeve was taken.

This is made up by how thick the production is with all the instrumentation and vocals that comes rampaging through these quick, ... read more
A release that likely isn't going to pick up much wider traction, but is a really good example of how underground shoegaze blended with indie can be made to sound great. Each piece of instrumentation has been produced really well and fits into a cool 90s sounding guitar style layered with so many effects that you end up with this swell of noise.
The vocals with their lyrics give a sense of being spoken into the void with the reverbed vocals always finding their own separate space in the mix. ... read more
