The gradual slope of Iceage from snarling post-punk to lovestruck preachers has to be one of the more unexpected in the last ten years. Literally another classic. The amount of songs that hit on first listen is unreal. Auntie Diaries, Crown and United in Grief are all up there with his best.
This is quite a strange album to me. It’s a project I find mostly mediocre, despite the high level of anticipation I set upon myself, but bookended with two absolutely brilliant tracks. I hate it when I try and quantify albums based on this because I always struggle to get to grips with how much a minority of brilliant songs can overthrow the others.
