LEAST FAV: Take Me with U (with Apollonia Kotero)

Knox Fortune - Stock Child Wonder
60

I've followed Knox Fortune over the years cause I really liked Lil Thing and some cuts off the first album. Always thought he had some potential but sad to say this doesn't build too much off that. Lotta these still feel kinda underwhelming and not fleshed out. Some of the endings to the tracks bring in some exciting elements too, but then the song just ends so you don't get much after all. Probably should've expected this when the singles were sorta empty. Oh well, still a few ok tracks on ... read more

The Smiths - Meat Is Murder

Honestly really like this one. The stupid weird folk throwdown thing they're getting at on a lotta this works for me (does make it kinda inconsistent tho) and makes for a decently exciting listen. Sound fx were a bit much on the last track though. I didn't sign up for for Cowtown Pt. 2

FAV TRACKS: Rusholme Ruffians, I Want the One I Can't Have, What She Said, Nowhere Fast, Well I Wonder, Barbarism Begins at Home

LEAST FAV: Meat Is Murder

The Band - The Band
65

Feels like an improvement on Big Pink but still not thaaaaaaat into it. I mean it's definitely more lively and memorable, yet it just doesn't really have me wanting to return to it. Someone lmk what's not clicking because their hits still fuckin slap

FAV TRACKS: Rag Mama Rag, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, Across the Great Divide, Rockin' Chair, Whispering Pines

LEAST FAV: The Unfaithful Servant

The Band - Music from Big Pink

Was surprisingly not that on board with this. Back half is better too

FAV TRACKS: The Weight, I Shall Be Released, Chest Fever, Lonesome Suzie

LEAST FAV: Caledonia Mission

21 Savage, Offset & Metro Boomin - Without Warning
70

Heard Nightmare on my Discover Weekly a few years ago and really liked it. Found myself randomly going back to it recently so decided to listen to the whole mixtape since it's so short. Love the consistency of the spooky time vibe production on this, which is kinda also why I listened to this now. Gotta love some of the humor on this too, especially the whole reasoning for why My Choppa Hate Bleep Bloop is called that. Prob should've figured out 21 Savage was from England way earlier on ... read more

The Killers - Sam's Town

Think I still like Hot Fuss a little more, but this is honestly still pretty close. Know this is a fan favorite album and a lotta people, like my sister, like this one the most. As usual, The Killers have a pretty similar sound that wavers ever so slightly with every album. Idk though, they're just kinda one of those bands that I'm okay with being pretty similar on every record . It's reliable & consistent ya know. Think I'm gonna do a Killers album binge now too. Prob should get around to ... read more

Spillage Village - Spilligion

Not totally what I expected but still an interesting rap group album filled with laid back, somewhat stripped back, acoustic tracks. Earthgang and JID always provide. Some tracks give me more OutKast vibes too, especially Cupid, which sounds like something off The Love Below. Honestly, this was just a really good album that surprised me with how much I like it. Plus Chance actually has a good verse again so if anything make that a reason to check this out.

Used to have some character, but now he's just like any other typical indie pop artist

FAV TRACKS: First Aid, Post Humorous, Medicine

The Killers - Imploding the Mirage

Classic Killers fanfare. Good enough for me

FAV TRACKS: My Own Soul's Warning, Caution, Fire In Bone, Dying Breed

LEAST FAV: My God

Joey Bada$$ - The Light Pack

Standard Joey. Mumble rap bar is kinda cringe tho

FAV TRACKS: No Explanation (feat. Pusha T)

LEAST FAV: The Light

Aminé - Limbo

Solid. Tracks w more soulful beats > trap beats

Injury Reserve track makes me sad now though

FAV TRACKS: Woodlawn, Pressure In My Palms, Riri, Mama, Becky, Fetus, My Reality

LEAST FAV: Compensating, Easy

Car Seat Headrest - Making a Door Less Open
55

Actually the first CSH album I've listened to fully, but I think it's cool he shifted sounds for this one. Still, this has some annoying & boring production in it and some truly crunge lyrics in it (i.e. Hollywood, yelling at the end of Deadlines (Thoughtful) ). Not complete shite though, has some good electric grooves at times. Should prob listen to Teens of Denial & Twin Fantasy after this now too

FAV TRACKS: Can't Cool Me Down, Martin

LEAST FAV: What's With You Lately, Hollywood

Kenny Mason - Angelic Hoodrat
55

Heard Hit on Beats 1 when I was waiting for the JIK interview last fall and man that song was glorious. Saw the same dude came out with an album recently so decided to listen and yeah that's what this is. It's a pretty meh album, but I feel like there are some really good cuts on this. Prefer the moody Denzel Curry inspired lofi raps over the rock Kevin Abstract-esque singing too. Still think Kenny Mason has to find his own sound as well so hopefully he progresses and idk I could maybe see him ... read more

The Strokes - The New Abnormal

Never been a Strokes guy, but geez what a bland ass album

FAV TRACKS: The Adults Are Talking, At the Door, Ode to the Mets, Eternal Summer

LEAST FAV: Not the Same Anymore

Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia

A solid pop record with a better first half. Good production & catchy hooks makes for a groovy time, but the same flow does gets a bit old after a while.

FAV TRACKS: Physical, Levitating, Don't Start Now, Future Nostalgia

LEAST FAV: Break My Heart, Good in Bed

Molly Rankin - She EP

Childish Gambino - 3.15.20

Been a big fan of Donald Glover for a little while now and I was really excited for his new album, but this feels a bit off. Don't get me wrong, I mostly enjoy this album, but there's a lot weird about it. The rollout was kinda trash for it and the lack of album/track names & album art is sorta frustrating. A lot of songs on here just go on for too long and it doesn't feel fully formed, even though it's been 4 years since his last album. I get that DG is suuuper busy but I just feel like ... read more

The Weeknd - After Hours

Enjoyed some of the synths, Blinding Lights still hits, but still a somewhat dull album from The Weeknd (always personally found him pretty boring). Back half is better, but wish he leaned more into the After Hours title & his album persona to deliver a dark, synth concept album. Untapped potential here, but not awful. Shoutout OPN tho and the supposed Uncut Gems sessions

FAV TRACKS: Blinding Lights, Alone Again, Hardest to Love, In Your Eyes, Save Your Tears, After Hours, Snowchild
