Can't believe I'm actually gonna say this, but Kanye should have delayed this even more. Even another month would've helped with just fleshing out the songs & adding stronger lyrics (lookin at you Closed on Sunday) & better production/mixing. I also can't help but feel that this extreme focus on religion from Kanye is just a phase (I'm aware Jesus Walks was on College Dropout) and that he'll be back to rapping about bleached assholes in a year. This is probably a more ambitious album ... read more
Mostly for the atmosphere, but by god does it deliver in synth-licious, foggy fall night, 80s Halloween vibes. Big find for me, gonna be listening to a bunch of these tracks for a while now
FAV TRACKS: Hey Moon, Quantum Leap, ...And the Rain, Cop Killer, Believer
LEAST FAV: Matter of Fact
Another favorite of my family and I'm seeing him tomorrow with them so figured I should listen to all of his stuff fully. It's nothing bad, full of some nice folk-rock eqsue music, but nothing super standout-ish either.
FAV TRACKS: SOB, I Need Never Get Old, Mellow Out, Howling at Nothing, Parlor, What I Need, Look It Here
Better than the group's first record, but still nothing suuuper crazy.
FAV TRACKS: Hey Mama, You Worry Me, Tearing at the Seams, Say it Louder
Been wanting to go through all of Beach House's albums fully for awhile now so figured I'd start at the beginning. Definitely has an a dreamy vibe going for it, but overall it's a bit one note. Still not all that a bad for a debut though and you can clearly see the potential they have.
FAV TRACKS: Master of None, Saltwater, Childhood
Math rock?
HA!
Yea, I know that bitch ;)
This is full of pleasant emo music. Love the trumpet throughout it too.
FAV TRACKS: Never Meant, The Summer Ends, Honestly, Stay Home, The One with the Wurlitzer
I listened to this at the gym and now I understand math rock.
FAV TRACKS: 953, Speedway, Ducter, Near DT, MI, Western, bmbmbm
I do like the concept of all the OF members rapping over other people's beats on this to try to show that they can do it better. Some definitely pull it off better than others though. Also a major step up overall from the previous OF tape too in my opinion.
FAV TRACKS: Orange Juice, Drop, Everything That's Yours, Round & Round
Not bad, good production & some fun lyrics, but that's all I really have to say. Did seem to lack the energy Danny usually brings, but I also have to listen to more of his stuff (especially Atrocity Exhibition) and not just Grown Up on repeat.
FAV TRACKS: Dirty Laundry, Best Life, uknowwhatimsayin¿, Shine, Combat
Journey through Travis Scott's Discography Part 3: This one is definitely a step up from the past two mixtapes in terms of production & lyricism. Enjoyed a handful of tracks on here, but there were also a large amount of tracks that were just kinda generic for me and went on a bit too long in runtime. Overall, a decent album (2nd place for me rn behind Astroworld), but nothing that blew me away like it seems to have for others.
FAV TRACKS: Pornography, 3500 (too long though), 90210, ... read more
I like a handful of Chastity Belt songs, and this was pleasant enough with it's dream-grunge vibe & strong lyrics, but the consistent slow tempo, lack of distinct songs & also depressing-existentialistic lyrics gets old, making this a somewhat forgettable album for me.
FAV TRACKS: Ann's Jam, Half-hearted, Pissed Pants
Wanted to go back and go through all the Odd Future stuff and hear all of Tyler's stuff, so I decided to give this first OF mixtape a listen. Ngl this is pretty bad, full of shite sound mixing, dated beats & garbage braggadocious lyrics that don't really seem to fit the member's characters. Tyler is definitely the standout on this one too. Lisa is also a nasty nasty track.
FAV TRACKS: Odd Toddlers, Back for Another One, Bitches Brewin
The Lumineers have always kinda been a special band for me, even though they've never done anything crazy. My dad & sisters were into them a bunch when they first came out so I've listened to them a bunch over the past few years and just always associated them with home n' stuff. So it kinda bothered me when I would hear new stuff and they didn't seem to be evolving a whole lot musically. Was kinda skeptical about this album when I first heard Gloria too, so I put off listening to more of ... read more
Mmmm Ameer's back. Tbh I was pretty bummed when he left (not kicked out) of Brockhampton. Not that he was my favorite member or anything, but just that his departure was gonna mess up the flow the group had going for them and they were gonna fall off. And to an extent, Brockhampton has kinda fallen off a little bit and they seem too moody nowadays. Plus Ameer was always talking about repenting and apologizing for how he used to behave, so it all seemed a bit out of place since he had seemingly ... read more
Journey Through Travis Scott's Discography Pt. 2: Really don't know why I'm listening to all of his projects, but I guess it's cause Astroworld was pretty good. This however, was not good. Thankfully, the production is definitely better than Owl Pharoah, but this is still just as boring, being full of repetitive topics and bad lyrics. Apparently Rodeo is pretty good though so I guess we'll see about that.
FAV TRACKS: Mamacita, Don't Play, Sloppy Toppy
Steve "the Hair" Harrington makes decent psychedelic rock music. Nothing that blew me away on this, but there was a good amount of songs that I actually enjoyed a bunch. Think I still like Post Animal stuff more though
FAV TRACKS: Roddy, Flash Mountain, Personal Lies, Chateau (Feel Alright), BNBG, Ring, Total Control
I don't know the best way to go about this. I don't mind some experimental rap, but a lot of it just isn't totally my thing. I liked the latest Injury Reserve album, Some Rap Songs last year & a handful of Peggy songs, but this album kinda didn't wow me like it seems to be for everyone else. The production's good on this, but it kinda gets old after a while. Also the looseness and all over-ness of this album gets old after awhile too. I was also surprised how poppy this was and how many of ... read more
Hmmmmm, so yea I discovered Twin Peaks on my Discover Weekly 2ish years ago and they've basically become one of my favorite bands over that time. I always appreciate when bands evolve sonically overtime, and Twin Peaks has kept showing that on each consecutive project, which is why I praise them so much. However, the singles leading up to this album weren't totally my thing and I really only liked Ferry Song, minus the eh vocals & mixing. Still was eagerly anticipating this album though and ... read more
Watched a somewhat bad Travis doc on Netflix a few weeks ago and wanted to give his entire discography a full listen as result. Travis definitely wears his influences on his sleeve in this (Cudi, Kanye, etc. ) and the production is kinda bad, but there were some decent synths and bangers on this
FAV TRACKS: Upper Echelon, Uptown, Hell of a Night (even though it's very reminiscent of Kanye's Hell of a Night)
WORST TRACKS: Dance On the Moon
So I've been following EARTHGANG for a little over a year now and I've been pretty intrigued by what they got going. Even waited 2 hours out in the cold in February tryna go to a free EARTHGANG concert at school, but eventually got yeeted away. Regardless, this album is good. However, I personally think that there's some filler tracks on this that could easily be cut off to lower the nearly hour run time. This album does start off strong with its funky beats and ad libs, but about half way ... read more
