"Popscene" might actually be one of the most important songs in the Britpop movement, it predates a lot of the albums that define the start of Britpop and this song feels like the transition into Blur making albums such as "Modern Life is Rubbish" and "Parklife" and the latter is certainly the most iconic pure Britpop album of the era.
I don't really understand the dislike for this album, this is really just a solid first try for one of the most iconic british bands of the 90s. I kind of liked how this project was a bit more shoe gazey when compared to the bands later albums, there is a clear influence from The Stone Roses on this project but Blur do enough to make this stand out.

"Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" is certainly a great album but it falls victim to the issue that plagues many double albums, its second half is a lot weaker than its first and its runtime is definitely too long.

I'm very confused by the utter hatred I've seen for this album, it was made very clear by the band that this was just going to be a fun and silly cover album and that is exactly what this is. I've seen a lot of complaints about the instrumentation being too generic and I don't think that is a valid criticism at all because they don't need to reinvent the songs for a fun covers album.
