While this is probably my least favorite Dave Malloy musical, it’s still a Dave Malloy musical.
I absolutely fucking love this. The chaotic instrumentation that never seems to let up, the gorgeous vocal harmonies throughout the album, the disturbing lyrical topics. This is such a unique project that I have come back to at least 20 times since my first listen, and still pick up details I haven’t noticed prior. It’s not perfect, the recording sometimes sounds a little rough on some occasions, but if you enjoyed the new Fiona Apple album (like me) it won’t detract much from ... read more
This is the first full project I heard from Bring Me The Horizon and it genuinely wasn’t bad. The production was good, and I found myself not cringing much, which is a frequent occurrence in this genre of music. I enjoyed some of the sound play and can see myself coming back to some tracks in the future. As a whole, it’s not bad, but it’s just a sound that doesn’t really vibe with me. I can very much see how people can really like this project and it honestly surpassed ... read more
I genuinely enjoyed this album. It was a really fun pleasant pop album. Definitely no where near as good as thank u, next, but it would be hard for Ariana to top that. My only real flaws with this album was the shallowness lyrically, every song is essentially about sex which gets mildly tiresome after a bit. Also the production gets a little to shallow at some points, the strings in some songs sound really thin and fake. The incredibly plastic sound that comes from it is a turn off, but ... read more
Hi, I like Harsh Noise music. This isn’t bad, it’s just not good either. Still, it’s definitely an interesting turn for Poppy. And I would love to see her incorporate elements of noise into her future albums now that I see that she is interested in the genre.
This sounds like the album they wanted to make when they made Angles and Comedown Machine.
I can see why people would really like this one, it’s a much bigger album sonically in comparison to their previous material. But it’s so much more inconsistent. It has some of the worst material by the Strokes. Razorblade is grating at some points, and Red Light has some annoying melodies in the instrumentation that take me out of the music. But there are some phenomenal tracks. I really enjoyed Juicebox, Electicityscape, and Vision of Division (easily one of my favorite songs by ... read more
I definitely prefer Is This It and The New Abnormal, but I would be lying if I said this didn’t have it’s fair share of bangers.
I went back to re-listen to this album, and I forgot just how infectious all the songs on this are. There is so much replay value with this album. The instrumentation is all incredibly tight, and create the perfect atmosphere for the album. Julian Casablanca’s vocal performance strikes a perfect balance of anxiety as well as calmness. I really enjoyed this more now than I remembered.
Somehow clipping. has made there most cohesive, terrifying, and infectious album. I am absolutely astonished by Daveed’s storytelling, meticulous flow, as well as the incredibly atmospheric yet claustrophobic production by William Hutson and Jonathan Snipes. My AOTY so far and I can’t see anything topping it.
The most fun Gorillaz album. Somebody said this is what Humanz would’ve sounded like if it was good and I have to agree. Even if I do personally think Humanz is still and overhated album.
This is Fleet Foxes at there most minimal and most stripped back. None of the instrumental drama that is found on any of their previous records can be found here. However, it’s still a beautiful sounding album. Lyrically it’s marvelous like most Fleet Foxes albums. It’s their weakest album, but still a great project.
The Red Notes contains some great ideas and compositions throughout the album, but the project is incredibly drawn out. If around 8-10 minutes we’re cut out from this album (maybe even less) the pacing would greatly benefit. Some tracks also suffered from mixing issues that distracted from the compositions. However, it’s still a decent project despite its flaws.
Despite some tracks coming out a bit dated, this is still an incredibly fun and well produced album with multiple bangers.
