Austere - To Lay like Old Ashes
58

This could've been a masterpiece had it not been for two things:

- WHAT ON EARTH IS A HUSKY DOING ON VOCALS IN TO FADE WITH THE DARK
- Why is the closer a 20 second riff stretched out for 20 MINUTES

What a frustrating LP. Has some phenomenal songs in between those two major issues...

xi - Agartha
70

Happy End of the World is such a tear jerker omg, best xi song by a country mile.

Tortoise - TNT
79

This is normally not my thing at all but I was quickly entrapped in this album's enriching, endless, comforting yet upsetting atmosphere.

It's a great listen to connect with your thoughts while meditating or simply as study music.

Time Requiem - Time Requiem
54

I got into this band because of Brutal Mentor, a sick 6 minute long shredfest.

Unfortunately, that was the only real banger here

Seventh Wonder - Tiara
50

This album felt 13 years long, what's with Prog Power and not knowing when to call it quits

Michael Jackson - Thriller
93

This album is a literal cheat code, what the hell.

Kendrick Lamar - C4

NF - Therapy Session
58

NF's an interesting guy, I think he has enough life experiences to talk about where he can make some interesting/gut wrenching songs (Intro 2, How Could you Leave us, Real) but fails at exploring these on a deeper level.

What this leads to is a massive concentration of topics in few songs that are really good and the rest are just generic rap filler songs.

Lots of lyrics going like ''huh you think I've it easy? Look at my life man it's so difficult, I rap the real ... read more

Greta Van Fleet - Anthem of the Peaceful Army
39

Remember when for 15 minutes this shit was what the entire music sphere was talking about? Have you heard ANYTHING regarding Greta Van Fleet since COVID came around? Seriously feel like they just dissapeared lol.

Anyways, this is less insulting to me than to some others since I'm not huge into Zep. However, me not being huge into Zep leads to me not being huge into this album.

Fates Warning - Awaken the Guardian
NR

Damn baby are you Fates' Warning debut album because you certainly Night on Brocken

Ah fuck Awaken the Guardian is not their debut joke ruined

Thank You Scientist - Terraformer
89

Is there such as thing as too much good music?

You'd think that is a silly thing to say, and I'd agree. But Terraformer manages to be just that.

This album is gargantually massive, no other way to put it. take out the interludes and the average track length here is 8 minutes each, one more complex than the other. It somehow does not bore the listener though, with a variety of styles keeping things fresh including solos from up to 4 instruments and even a breakcore ... read more

Leviathan - The Tenth Sub Level of Suicide
69

Had been a while since I listened to some real putrid metal. Took me a few moments to re-adjust my ears to it but once I did.... it was good! Nothing mind bending, and the vocals walk a fine line between disturbing and comical, but overall enjoyable!

Madonna - Confessions on a Dance Floor
NR

''Brat of the 2000's'' do NOT disrespect Madonna like that

Electric Callboy - TEKKNO
75

It's so corny it could feed all of Germany, but damn if it isn't some good fun

bye2 - Teeth Restoration
80

Maybe a smidge too long for the genre but such a banger

Rush - The First US Tours
79

That first concert is legit excellent if you liked Rush's Self-Titled but wished it had a bit more grit. Geddy Lee is basically screaming half of the lyrics, it has a crunchy and powerful tone and the bass is SUPER audible.

Viper - Soundtracks For My Niggaz
NR

People acting so offended in some reviews like Michael Gira wouldn't laugh his ass off if he saw this

Natural Snow Buildings - Daughter of Darkness
50

Whilst I can aprecciate the care and love NSB has put into this I can't help but feel dissapointed, especially with how much I love The Winter Ray.

Nearly every song in this album feels like a minute long melody which then they rolled a dice to decide if they kept it going for 5 or 45 minutes. Whilst its hypnotic nature and great, detailed production is something worth experiencing once, I am left with little to say about 7 hours of music other than "it shut my ADHD voice up so I ... read more

Body Count - Body Count
80

Wdym Evil Dick at 49 do people need everything to be a statement of inteligence and culture???

Sleep Token - Take Me Back to Eden
53

In a world with so many strong feelings towards Sleep Token I found myself weirdly in the middle.

I'm not necessarily opposed to this blend of genres, hell I've even listened to a blend of prog metal/dubstep before, but the way they do it wildly varies between good and clunky.

Also, the guy sounds like he's gonna start singing we are charlie kirk at any point and that's fucking hilarious to me lol.

"@4horn minutes of Gira moaning to a single drone note in Birthing is a masterpiece. There's a desperation to worship this band like the second coming of god instead of truly analyzing their wins and losses."
On 𝙠𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙯's review of Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@4horn That other song in Disc 1 that mixes edm/idm sounds like it's just trying to be as weird as possible instead of writing something meaningful. The pinnacle of why I think Swans is just snobbery is that this critical acclaim they receive is from 90% of users who listen to mostly hip-hop, pop, indie rock etc and then they somehow like Swans. Which is in the realm of experimental one of the most unaccesible bands of all time with incredibly challenging, overwhelming, long albums. It feels more performative than genuine when this is the only band in this incredibly specific type of music that they like. And this is not to say everybody's like that, but Swans' reviews have an incredible amount of people unable to explain why 120 new"

"@4horn Half your citation clearly states that Swans, if influencing bands and genres, is mostly on the niche side of things. Look at the list of bands they influenced, the only 2 with great success are TOOL and Nirvana and both were influenced by 80's Swans and not their post-rock revival. Same applies to Melvins, Neurosis, Napalm Death. Soundtracks is absolutely a boring album FOR ME. I am not stating this as a fact. IT BORES ME. It feels like a collage of soundscapes that make absolutely no sense with some exceptions like Helpless Child and The Sound. Can you explain to me how such a focused album has whatever the fuck Yum Yab Killers is? It's not only a complete throw off it's also genuinely not fun to listen to."
On 𝙠𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙯's review of Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@4horn Ok are we gonna forgive Limp Bizkit because they're rap metal and they rap over nu metal riffs??? Fuck yes it's boring. Music shouldn't be an endurance test but that's how it feels to listen to Swans. 140' collage of sounds with mostly no direction. And Swans is not nearly as important as you're claiming it is. Music revolutions? They've been a niche band for all of their career with a small popularity surge on the last decade of the internet."

I’d say you may find things to enjoy about Counterparts/Test for Echo (should have been one album consisting of booth’s highlight but still quite good) and Clockwork Angels is a phenomenal send off album specially the closing track.
