overrated? yeah, but it isn't too bad. theres a reason everyone says its good background music. the production on this album is good, the verses feature somewhat passionate rapping and storytelling, but where this album falls flat on nearly every track is the chorus. J Cole does basically the exact same layered but flat chorus throughout the whole album. m b v carries on the key elements that defined their past sound, but still remains unique, with this album having a very gloomy feel which is executed to pretty much perfection, with the droning guitars and classic mbv vocals. only gripes are the track nothing is, which just breaks the pace of an overall very slow and calm album, and the extreme lack of progression throughout makes it the only skip on the album for me. also, is this and yes is still a good track, but i kinda miss the distorted ... read more
Angel Olsen's intimate folk lyrics about heartbreak and the subsequent lessons learned aren't anything new, but when paired with a variety of energetic instrumentals pulled from all sorts of styles and time periods, you get something very enjoyable with lyrical depth that keeps you interested. While more acoustic songs do work on tracks like White Fire, others like Dance Slow Decades and Enemy just feel boring and lack progression for how long they run.
