Recently found out that one of the modern pop GOATS Caroline Polachek had an indie band from the early 2010's. As it would turn out, Chairlift makes some pretty decent stuff. The artistic vision isn't quite as strong earlier in her career, and the album definitely SCREAMS early 2010's, but there's a lot to like about the sort of twee, 80's Synthpop formula
Just started dipping my toes into true Ska and what an introduction. Fast-paced, and full of heart that really packs a lyrical and instrumental punch. It's amazing how something so silly-sounding as Ska can work so well
White Town has to have one of the most passive-aggressive Spotify bios I've ever read. I mean "best -- in fact, almost entirely -- known for the fluke 1997 hit," and "frustrating inconsistent musicians of the 90's" like bro basically said he's only popular because of one bit of chance and most of his stuff is ass
Fun and pretty hugely influential, but it just feels a little juvenile and instrumentally basic compared to later stuff in the genre and even from the Beastie Boys. "Licensed to Ill" falls in a weird transitionary period for the Beastie Boys as they move more primarily towards Hip Hop from their Punk Rock origin. The style is entertaining, but wears thin rather fast
The music that I always wished to hear out of Mac and it took me this long to finally listen to it. Beats are absolutely amazing and heavenly, and Miller rhymes like his life is depending on it. The flow and lyrical style feels so ahead of some of my less favorite projects from Mac that came out after this, and "Faces" definitely stands as my favourite stuff from the guy so far
may have unchartable levels of 80's cheesiness, but its catchy so whatever
Way more heavily influenced by Reggae than "Long Season." It hits in a different way, but definitely still hits. Has a very warm and sunny vibe that really induces a sense of calm
Hard to place, but something just falls slightly short of being truly super enjoyable for me. Needs some extra little bit of oomph that I found her earlier album "Miss Universe" to have
Definitely shows a whole lot of promise, but no where NEAR as good as the music Beach House would later put out
As soon as the album starts, it's like I was put in a trance and utterly transfixed. Sounds pretty pretentious and unoriginal given the album and its titanic reputation, but it's true
Warm and comforting. could definitely fall asleep to it until it turns into Rock and then I can't anymore :/
Where is Dorian finding these people for the feature list?? Pussy Riot??? Gaylord???? and can't forget REBECCA BLACK and THE VILLAGE PEOPLE?!??
Was instantly drawn to the album from that striking cover.
Proof that production can really make or break music because while the rapping is certainly quite decent, there is no way I would have liked this album as much if the production was less inspired
Bro needs to stop writing these shitty ass bars he probably has a book report on To Kill a Mockingbird due next week
For some reason, it's difficult for me to find the exact words to describe this album. Instead, something like a visual would best represent the feeling that this album evokes.
I'm imagining, like, a cool car and the car is blue with sparkly paint but also its in space but space is like red and purple and there's an alien there. maybe the alien is named "The Xercox" and is not completely perceivable by human eyes so the shape constantly shifts and it has a ... read more
A pretty solid follow-up to the really good Artic Monkeys debut. There aren't any noticeable downgrades in terms of songwriting or sound, but I also didn't find a whole lot to take away from "Favourite Worst Nightmare" after listening. Solid, but not very noteworthy
Contrary to user reviews, I liked "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" a bit more than their earlier album: "Definitely Maybe." I'm still not a big fan of Wonderwall in all of it's overplayed acoustic glory, but "Champagne Supernova" is a classic song and "Don't Look Back in Anger" is easily the band's best song; really good song
Super exciting and entertaining, blending some Beach House-esque Dream Pop with some traditional Indie Rock
