I really didn't see the appeal with this album, it sounds like the 60s. There's nothing here that caught my attention and really made an impression on me.
Best: "Home Again"
Worst: "Smackwater Jack"
Aretha Franklin had an angelic voice and a very good sense for melody, a perfect combination for soul/r&b.
Best: "I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You)"
Worst: "Dr. Feelgood (Love Is A Serious Business)"
Fantastic third effort from Janet Jackson, every song has something that makes you want to come back to it, although the later half of the album seems like a far cry from the energy of the first half.
Best: "Control"
Worst: "He Doesn't Know I'm Alive"
There's something about this album that makes it very memorable but most of the tracks fail to keep my attention.
Best: "Crosseyed and Painless"
Worst: "The Overload"
My first time listening to Stevie Wonder in full, Innervisions is an enjoyable album, very infectious grooves and slower songs set the pace very well.
Best: "Higher Ground"
Worst: "Living For The City"
Compared to their last LP's, Dreamland feels generic and uninspired, like they lost the fire they had with ZABA and HTBAHB.
Unlike it's predecessor, HTBAHB keeps the infectiousness of ZABA but loses the originality ZABA had. Bayley incorporated more mainstream influence this time around, looking for this release to be the one that carried them into the spotlight. While a good effort, this obviously didn't make them a household name.
This is one of the most inventive and intricate pop albums I've ever heard, from the headscratchingly nonsensical lyrics to the infectious hooks, ZABA keeps me invested all the way through with its trippy, alternative style.
In their debut, Linkin Park was able to take a genre that fell into immaturity and unmarketability, into an overnight sensation and brought rock/metal to the mainstream once again. This was due to the fact that nu-metal and rap rock were headed up by the likes of Korn and Limp Bizkit, both great bands in their own right but viewed as too weird, or too cringey. Linkin Park matured their brand of nu-metal/rap rock with emotional and confessional lyrics and rap/hip-hop lyrical prowess, but set ... read more
It's Bob Marley & The Wailers. Not much else to say.
Best: "Waiting In Vain"
Worst: "The Heathen"
The Beastie Boys haven't aged well at all, I'm sure when it came out it was a banger but this album is really nothing special.
Best: "Looking Down The Barrel of A Gun"
Worst: "Hey Ladies"
*tagging this now so I will relisten to it one day
U2 has never been a favorite of mine, I expected something on this album to change that but it didn't. There's nothing to make want to come back to any of these songs.
Best: "Trip Through Your Wires"
Worst: "In God's Country"
There's nothing on this album that makes me want to come back to it, everything sounds so unoriginal and boring.
Best: "Running Up That Hill"
Worst: "Jig of Life"
As every song passes, I keep forgetting what they sound like because of the astounding amount of similarities between songs. It's definitely not a bad album, it is consistent but there's nothing to keep your attention.
Best: "Adore"
Worst: "It"
Less moaning and the album would've easily been an 80 or higher, but goddamn there's too much moaning.
Best: "Sweet Child O' Mine"
Worst: "You're Crazy"
Solid rock & roll album with barely anything I could consider bad. 18 songs makes it a bit too long but none of the songs feel like they take forever to listen to.
Best: "All Down The Line"
Worst: "Torn and Frayed"
