I remember listening to this album when it first came out and I have no desire to relisten to it due to the fact that I was bored and trying to get through it. Definitely an album that can be put into the “metalcore albums where every song sounds the same” bin.
I don’t truly know how I feel about this track but I feel like it’s overall run of the mill. Nothing really stood out as bad or good on this track. The breakdown was a little too simple
I’m so glad every time I die and the dillinger escape plan are basically living through this band. Good amount of energy in terms of both vocals and instrumentals
I think this single is better than the last single which was stock deathcore, or @fork_head’s “meshuggah but not nearly as interesting” comment. This one sounds like they added some solos and riffs that reminded me a bit of slayer which I thought was cool. It still has that over the top breakdown at the end that I get tired of in the deathcore subgenre. Still not a fan of the clean vocals in part of the chorus
I think I was too excited for this release and expecting a better time than the album we got. A lot of the riffs are heavy and fun but also sound the same. At least they change it up slightly with the melodic riffs on tracks like “If You Love Me, Let Me Go” and “Midnight Blue.” A lot of the lyrics are silly. Not really a release I would go back to
Wow, as someone who never really cared for Megan’s music before, this track is great. Her rap flow is sick and the beat is great with the guitars
Ok, I’m sorry but this track has almost everything I hate about modern metalcore, specifically pop bands that try to be a metal band or vice versa. That weird edm dance music that happens right before the first chorus and sounds like it’s stolen from a Taio Cruz track, the extremely poppy vocals that have the vocalist sound like they’re trying out for an Ariana Grande audition, overproduced djent guitar riffs, and even clapping. WE DONT NEED CLAPPING SOUNDS BECAUSE A SNARE ... read more
This album has one of the worst album covers of the year with it being AI generated and looking like nothing. Also every song on here sounds the same and I was bored the whole time through. Recommend listening to their earlier albums like Constellations and avoiding this
You know, I thought I was gonna hate this based off of pretty much every alt metal reviewer on here not leaving positive reviews, and I did
I think “Self Tape” is a step up from their last album “I’m Sorry Mr. Salesman” in terms of the mixing and tracks feeling more like songs that have their own distinct identity. I think MouthBreather still have created a unique mathcore experience that is only being held back by being safe like song-melding
Even as someone who doesn’t really care for the band Nothing, this is one of the most beautiful songs I have heard in 2023.
I feel like Spiritbox don’t really add anything to the track to make their feature really stand out. But that could be that they were worried they were gonna overpower Megan. They mix with Megan pretty well and the performances are fine, but not really unique or interesting in terms of metal/rap crossovers.
Edit: ok, I decided to relisten to this since after listening to the original track more and I’ve decided that this is a really weak remix. The part where only Courtney is ... read more
The writing on this album is too safe which is something you never wanna have on a pop album and I didn’t get much out of it. Doesn’t really provide anything new or interesting for the genre.

It’s really unfortunate that the first song on this album is the worst track on here and it doesn’t get much better. Jacob sounds like he’s at least trying, but he’s doing way too much for his own good and despite it being all over the place it’s not really memorable for the right reasons.
Full of Hell and Nothing mend together well on this track to keep it interesting and entertaining for its almost six minute runtime
Good deathcore track with unique modern production. Very interested to see what they’re gonna do next from this single
