Very cool genre execution. Never thought punk and industrial rock and dance punk could work so well. However, I do think they could go a little further though. Vocals are very horny but work. Feeling an 8 to an 8.5 out of 10.
I love this album. Great riffs, breakdowns, and lyrics. The only thing that I think this band could work on would maybe be the unclean vocals. I think they could be a little more distinct. However, that’s just a nitpick.
I guess if you like compressed deathcore djent you will enjoy this album more than me, cause this feels lifeless
Good and fun album. Great riffs and the songs aren’t too long to make you uninterested. The vocals aren’t perfect but they’re done by the Black Flag vocalist, Keith Morris, who is 67 years old so he gets a pass. The chaos through the string instruments on the “FLSD tracks” really added depth to the album. Only complaint I have is that some of the songs blend together occasionally, but if you’re into some hardcore punk with a lot of rock elements then I ... read more
I blame Lorna Shore for making deathcore sound so tacky and stale to me. This band at least tries to not sound tacky which I think deserves praise. I think if this band got more experimental, then they could make something outstanding. Feeling a 5.5 to a 6 out of 10.
Edit: relistened and it sounds like stock deathcore most of the time
Reasons why I’m giving this a 0:
- Do I need to explain why this song is so bad?
- The original Yummy was already one of the worst songs of 2020
- Adding Florida Georgia Line to the track added nothing except pain and cringe
- This song deserves lower than a 0
- Might be my pick for the worst song of all time
Easily one of their worst songs. This just doesn’t make me feel anything, super generic sounding
Reasons why I’m giving this a 0:
- TikTok artist
- Bad singing
- Terrible lyrics, especially the entire 2nd verse
- Her attempt to rap in the bridge
- Doesn’t add to anyone or anything’s life in a positive way
This album is a step up from KEN Mode’s last album, Entrench. Success leans sludge metal style with its chaotic shouted vocals, contrasting tempos, and distorted riffs on each track, while still having some noise rock with its use of white noise like on the beginning of the song Blessed. Overall I think this album is more memorable than Entrench. Some of the standout tracks are Blessed, These Tight Jeans, The Owl…, I Just Liked Fire, A Passive Disaster, and Dead Actors. This was the first album I listened to by KEN Mode. Overall, this album is really solid but for me it doesn’t have a lot of memorability other than the track Romeo Must Never Know which has one of the most effective one line choruses I’ve ever heard. Feeling a 7 to a 7.5 out of 10
Wow, was not expecting to love this album. I think Jessie’s vocals and vocal delivery are what really sell this album for me. I think the only drawbacks are I can’t see myself listening to this in certain moods. Plus in terms of instrumentals they aren’t super new or reinventing the disco sound. However, the instrumentals are great and compliment Jessie’s vocals. I can’t believe I’ll be listening to disco in 2023
Did anyone else think that there was a part on “Look, Pt. 3” where the drums could make a ‘beating my meat’ joke?
No, just me?
Regardless for my dirty thoughts, this album was really good. Probably the best atmospheric black metal/blackgaze album of the year. I really liked the instrumentation on this project. In terms of experimentation, even though so songs worked better and sounded better than others, all of them were unique.
This is basically Weezer’s Kidz Bob Kids album. I hate covers like these. If you’re going to cover songs where the only change is that the voice is different, then maybe you’re doing something wrong. Just listen to the original songs
Edit: yeah nevermind this deserves a 0
A serious contender for one of the worst covers of all time. Ronnie’s vocals sound like ass, and the instrumentals sound so tacky. This song was already a bad idea to cover, since a lot of nu metal songs from the 2000s haven’t aged well. But to reimagine it like a slowed down dramatic movie trailer cover is just the cherry on top. At least the Papa Roach vocalist Jacoby Shaddix likes this cover. Cause I’m pretty sure no one else ... read more
