i think charley’s up there with some of the greatest live performers ever, this dudes vocals are 2x better and his dancing is awesome live he’s so fun to watch. His performances of goin back to texas, don’t tell me that, and travelin blues are the standouts. Especially if you’ve seen the video performance. The Blue Drifters are so amazing
super awesome EP, feels like he puts a more outlaw spin with some of his older roots mixed in there on these tracks off The Man From Waco. Some of these versions i’m even taking over the originals.
just because your from texas does not mean you need to make the most shitty “country” music ever released
country music is never recovering from this dumbass, it’s not helping that the album is long as hell and has not a single grain of substance and meaning
It’s better than Abbey Road, just let it grow on you and it’ll make sense. Obviously the title track is a perfectly written song, everytime you listen it just gets you thinking about so much. it’s such a powerful song. I’m not sure if songs like “Mama I Don’t Want to Be a Solider” or “How Do You Sleep” are considered psychedelic songs, but i would think so. They’re still amazing, this albums so good man. John’s just so creative ... read more
Obviously a classic, maybe one of the most classic albums of all time. I don’t feel like it met my expectations though. For the most part vocals are amazing and story telling is pretty fun and interesting. But it’s not standing out like how i thought it’d be. I do not feel like anything specifically was perfectly done but maybe the vocals, and still those are flawed at some times. It was still amazing, kept me interested the whole listen, but it wasn’t anything crazy. ... read more
I think songwriting on this album is better than Cold Beer and Country Music, but the album feels a lot more forgettable. Still has many amazing songs, but it’s missing the consistency that Cold Beer and Country Music had. Still kinda pissed this won a grammy over Dollar a Day, but it’s a popularity contest so it is what it is. Solid album keeping 90s country alive and well.
This album was definitely a big part of a little 90s country music revival in this era for sure. It went mainstream and now we’ve got a big 90s country revival with a lot more people getting popular reviving the sound. I’m all for it of course, fire ass album đĨđĨ
I think this is one of those EPs where i can’t tell if i absolutely hate it or like it just a little. The punk/rock influence is pretty cool but again i can’t tell if i hate it or like it. Some pretty catchy songs if im being honest, but it’s really not my kind of music at all and there’s nothing special about it. I do like the first track but besides that it’s just that same recycled modern country rock sound, songwritings not special, it’s just very eh. ... read more
I mean it’s alright, kinda boring, the songwriting was decent and vocals are solid. I feel like my main problem with the Brudi Brothers is that all their stuff sounds the same and it’s all boring. To be honest this is some of the better work of theirs i’ve heard, not really been a huge fan of them. I highly doubt i’ll be listening to these again.
*not including the (alone) versions of tracks to my review*
Benjamin Todd’s new album was also another highly anticipated album for me personally this year as his last album was near perfection. This one wasn’t on that level but it was still great. Songs written about his past mental health and past traumas in life has always been a theme in his music and he kept it goin on this album here. I think Benjamins really built a sound that suits him perfectly with heavy fiddles ... read more
This album is stupidly underrated. Every single track is catchy and the whole album is very memorable with high replay value to me at least, i’ve been coming back to this album pretty consistently ever since it dropped. There’s amazing songwriting, and lots of variety of sounds with fantastic insturmentals. Some songs feel right out of a Red Dead Redemption soundtrack, some with influences from 60s-90s country. Benjamin’s got an amazing voice and adding sierra ferell as a ... read more
Another long awaited album for me personally, unfortunately it was a little bit of a let down considering his last 3 albums. It’s not a bad album by any means but my main problem is it all sounds pretty similar and it’s just a very recycled sound in country music. I know for a fact vincent’s capable of much better music. Vocally, not usually his best, he seems tired a little bit. There are some standouts like “Louisiana Wind,” “Rising of the Sage,” and ... read more
Definitely not a better experimental country album out there, and i doubt there ever will be. The rock, soul, and orchestral blend with country music is perfected from sturgill. The story and the lyrics is absolutely perfect as it’s a letter to his son warning him of all the dangers of this corrupt world and he somehow makes it fit into a theme of an old sailer tale. It’s just so damn creative. “Call to Arms” is genuinely a serious contender for one of the best songs ... read more
Very funky, lots of hits, and just a couple misses. Songwritings alright, not many different things, definitely a thing I wish he did better on this record. He’s got a great voice and many really great instrumentals. But don’t really feel this is the most attention grabbing or memorable album at all.
BIG fan of this album, Vans got such an amazing voice and he’s a solid songwriter too. You can tell he put a lot of soul and energy into this Jazz/Rock/Folk/R&B/Soul influenced record. It’s a classic.
Not too much to say on this one. Just another solid album from a songwriting great. It’s pretty awesome the little stories John’s able to make up. And “Bruised Orange (Chain of Sorrow) is on of my favorite songs ever.
1969 self titled album by the texan Bob Dylan is a songwriting masterpiece. Townes Van Zandt wasn’t even happy with most of the album which is crazy to me. These beautiful handpicked acoustic songs with very relaxing insturmentals that still keep that outlaw country sound are pretty awesome. Might be boring to some people, not sure, but the story telling is amazing and that’s what this albums really built on.
really didn’t want to review this cause it’s at 420 reviews, but i spent time on it so i gotta. I mean my goodness sturg, how is a psychedelic country rock album with even some hymn influence sound so damn good. Country music needs to be taking notes on how to experiment cause he’s doing it all right, and keeps continuing to do this today with his disco country rock album. Amazing voice, solid guitar work, solid songwriting, amazing insturmentals. And then you’ve got ... read more
