Peter Bjorn and John - Writer's Block
82

The first half of this album is vastly superior to the second, and while the songs on the second half aren't necessarily bad, I doubt I'll ever listen to them again. Amsterdam seems super underrated here, I absolutely adore it.

The Derek Trucks Band - Songlines
94

A really great album overall with a couple songs I don't care for that much, like Chevrolet. That being said, the highs on this album consist of some of my favorite songs of all time: Sahib, I Wish I Knew, and This Sky are all timeless songs that serve as perfect reminders that some of the best music you'll ever hear is lying in wait for you on deeply underground, unknown albums like this one.

Pink Floyd - The Final Cut
89

Definitely overhated, but also far from perfect. There's nothing offensively bad on this album, just some songs that end up being kind of boring despite trying to convey some serious intensity. Your Possible Pasts is very uninteresting, but is saved by a good guitar solo. The Gunner's Dream is gorgeous and perfect and the last three tracks are fantastic. The fact that there's just an impromptu ear-shattering explosion halfway through has always been funny to me.

Cat Stevens - Tea for the Tillerman

Immensely nostalgic album for me. The sound is so tender but it also has great moments of intensity. Wild World and Father and Son are the hits and the obvious 100s, but my two favorites are actually the opener and On the Road to Find Out.

Bob Dylan - Time Out of Mind
95

A great album that revitalized him after a string of albums that all blended together and didn't have very many standouts. To me, this paved the way for even greater albums like Love & Theft, Modern Times and Tempest, all of which I like more than this. That being said, this is still an incredibly powerful listen. A couple songs I heard for the first time, like Can't Wait, I could definitely move their ratings up in the future. Million Miles is the obvious weak point for me. ... read more

Jerry Garcia Band - Jerry Garcia Band

This album has the best version of Waiting for a Miracle ever recorded, one of my favorite songs of all time. The Blood on the Tracks songs are great as you'd expect. I think this is my favorite version of Yankee Power too. Love the organ solos in this Dixie. The rest is just standard great JGB, these songs will be good if you draw from pretty much any JGB show. The opener is the only weak spot for me, I've never been a huge fan of that song.

Neil Young - On the Beach
98

A very good, consistent Neil album with basically no weak points, and I totally get why it's many people's favorite by him. I don't have quite the same connection to this one as some of his others, though, like Harvest or Everybody Knows. The first and last tracks are desert island tracks for me.

I much prefer their next two albums, but there's nothing really bad about this. Some of the songs here feel like I'm just listening to elevator music with some occasional world instruments overtop (Meu Destino), which I think their next albums fix completely. The best song is the title track.

A bunch of decent to great songs ruined by their worst song. The fact that China Doll has a lower track rating than Money Money on here makes me think that the people rating this weren't actually listening to the album. How could you ever rate those songs the same??
