Easily the most interesting single to come from this album, but I still feel like it's lacking a little bit of edge.
this is....this is...okay.
They aren't pushing themselves very far out of what they were doing on Dreamland, but it feels a little more thought through. The mix is kinda shitty tho.
EDIT: The more I listen, the more I realize how much this song would improve if they had a real drum kit involved. Like the lyrics are rough, but a real drum kit could probably add a lot.
Oh man... What happened??
I think it's clear now. Jack needs a break. Every moment on this album is nearly identical to the previous except for moments where it diverts into some misguided attempt to take the listeners attention. If a track doesn't feel like a hodge podge of the sound pallete used on the three previous Bleachers albums, it feels like a poor rip off of a better track from one of these albums. This is exemplified best by the closing track. This is just Foreign Girls ... read more
Am liking this one. Feels very fun and playful which is something I didn't really expect.
HOOOOOOOOONK SHOOOOOOOOEEEEEE
What is it with Cage The Elephant and making really boring songs out of shit that should be so much deeper? Like weren't they the kings of softly somber indie rock in the 2010's???
WE ARE SO FUCKING BACK RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
GLOOM DIVISION is not a sophomore slump. Is it as good as Razzmatazz? Not really, but it's damn close. It hits many of the same buttons except one that is very important to me. It's every bit as fun and bouncy as Razzmatazz, it's production is just about as good, the mix could've used more work though, and Dallon puts his all into his performances.
That being said... the structure of this album is far weaker than that of Razzmatazz. Where that LP had a few diversions, but still came together ... read more
I was luke warm on iDKHOW for quite a while, I didn't really start listening to them until after they toured with Joywave because I never liked Choke. That being said, I cannot regret that decision enough, because I slept on a damn good album for an incredibly long time. This album is so damn fun and has a shit ton of character, which is hard to say about a lot of modern indie pop. While this album doesn't have the perfect flow, it's still fun and cohesive. My biggest critique of the album is ... read more
I didn't waste like 3 minutes getting this page set up so some nerd that smells like a dry erase marker could call Brain Damage "mature-AJR vibes"
I will say that, as a quirked up white boy, Cheekface is right up my alley. Quirky, upbeat music about how society is on the downward spiral? Yes please. I can admit that they are not for everyone, but if there's a Cheekface album I'm gonna recommend to people, it's gonna be this one. Fun and energitic songs that are well written fill out this entire album. Greg Katz' vocals are probably the most jarring thing about Cheekface, but as someone who grew up listening to Weird Al and hearing Cake on ... read more
Nothing new here, which sucks. This sounds identical to what they were making for Social Cues. Regardless, I'm excited and hopeful for whatever Cage The Elephant have coming next.
This could've been a whole lot worse, I won't lie. Going in, the only single I really liked was Dilemma. Beyond that I thought the rest of the singles were okay, but this LP overall turned out okay. A lot of filler but if there's one thing I know about Green Day, it's that filler can get so much worse. Ultimately this is a return to form for Green Day and it doesn't feel pretentious like Father of All... did.

MISSIO finds a bit of a better footing than they did with their previous EPs. At the same time, there's still that lack of focus. While the tracks on I Am Awesome are overall better and more memorable than the ones on I Am Sad and I Am High, the EP as a whole is still a mess. There's very little sonic consistency, especially when you look at the closer track, Run Away, with a riff that sounds like it was ripped directly from Let's Rock era Black Keys. Overall though, this EP is the only one in ... read more
Cold War Kids doing what they always have. There really isn't much here that they've never done before.
EDIT: Came back after hearing the CWK EP since I liked those tracks and seeing them live and I feel like this album has it's moments. Still definitely bread and butter indie rock, but I definitely did not give this the chance it deserved.
Favourites: Run Away With Me, Toxic Mask
Least Favourites: Blame, Empty
A good debut establishes what an artist is about and sets the direction they plan to go in the future. I feel like Will did an amazing job at this. Mollify is by no means an album that's never been done before. The sound pallette, while energetic and fun, is nothing new, but due to how well produced this album is, I can't say I was bored at any point during the album.
Lyrically, this album goes in so many different directions, I'm surprised how focused it can be at times, but sometimes it ... read more
Not y'all acting like this is worse than Solutions.
MONO is K.Flay on correction course. This feels like a proper follow-up to Every Where Is Some Where, while also incorporating some of the pop-centric sounds from the albums since. At worst, this album has some slightly cringey lyrics, which is forgivable.
I feel like this album's shortcomings stem more from it's inconsistency. Track to track the album is kinda shakey. Also, it is unforgivable that Carsick is not on streaming. Beyond this, ... read more
