Tally Hall returns with a project which has a much different turn from where they started. They found a much darker sound pallete and they dropped a lot of the goofiness that filled Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum, which I feel is to this albums detriment. This album has shrunk on me a little bit from when I really got into it in 2022. Regardless, I still like this project. I still find a lot of enjoyment from it, but I just feel like they could have taken themselves a little less ... read more
Tally Hall embraces nonsense and goofiness on their debut album and it kinda pays off. This album is fun. That is the best way to say it. Tally Hall doesn't go out of their way to do an album with a big, convoluted concept. They said "Let's make an album and have the theme be based on this really cool musuem." and that was that. Where Tally Hall has fun ideas and explores silly ideas, they also find room for some really well thought out songs. I find the best way to listen to this ... read more
I chose to rate this album in its entirety because the two EPs that make it up feel so incomplete to begin with, so it just makes more sense to me to review this one whole.
This album is kinda messy. While I definitely feel like it's a step up from where K.Flay was on Solutions, I feel like she still has a bit of an issue making songs that truly stand out. I definitely like this album though, I just feel like there could be more to like if songs like "Good Girl" or "Nothing Can ... read more
This EP is magnificent and shows how talented of a songwriter Alex Turner truly is. This EP is an amazing listen all the way through. Each track captures a different emotion regarding a relationship perfectly and the performance is amazing. I feel like this EP is made even better with the context of the film, but ultimately it's a very solid listen regardless. I feel like the choice of making it a more acoustic sound is probably the best part. It makes it feel much more intimate and raw than if ... read more
The Black Keys discography can be split into two main categories; before El Camino and after El Camino. It's clear that El Camino was really the biggest turning point in their discography. While every piece of music they've made, even up until today, has a connection, it's clear El Camino is where they moved in a new direction.
El Camino is a kickass album where The Black Keys found a happy medium between the bluesy sound they came up with and the sounds popular in the modern rock landscape. ... read more
I'll start this review off by saying that I am very biased towards this album, and I'm going to make an effort to put that bias aside. This was the last album released while I will still in highschool and it or its accompanying singles really carried me through some hard times. Excuse me if some bias does leak in though.
Cleanse was great. It's my favourite Joywave album, hard stop. It's buildup lasting nearly 11 months is insane to me. It felt so much longer. When After Coffee first dropped I ... read more
I went to this album based on three very different teasers. When they first dropped Horrorshow I was slightly concerned as it felt very forgettable and unchanging, especially compared to the very promising Sofarinrunning and Sorry Sarah. When Dentonweaver released I actually was pleasantly surprised as, while it still was a little different than what I expected, I still enjoyed it quite a lot. Finally Converse County released and it cemented that it's worth giving the album a listen. The ... read more
If I had a nickel for every music trilogy started in 2019 with a standard first part, good second part, and underwhelming third part I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. Cold War Kids rounded off their New Age Norms trilogy with arguably the least notable entry. The songs are fine. It's Cold War Kids, as I said in my review of NAN2, they're bread and butter. If you want basic indie rock, they're a good go to. I don't see a reason to really skip this ... read more
Lil Nas X's first major LP is extremely well put together. While I definitely feel like some tracks are far better than others, I feel like this album fills it's runtime very well. Tracks fit into place, emotional moments have time to sit, and overall performances are very good. I'll admit I was one of the people who assumed that Old Town Road would be Lil Nas X's only major hit and he would fade out just like most one hit wonder rappers, but I was pleasantly surprised when I heard some of the ... read more
I feel like Jack Antonoff has been stretching himself thin. Producing for half of the biggest pop girlies clearly is draining him of time and energy that could be put into Bleachers. I don't blame him for being on that grind, but good lord this album is a major decline from where he left off with Gone Now. Would I say this is the worst project he could have made? Of course not. He made the album he wanted to and normally his ideas work out. I just feel like this album is significantly less ... read more
So, I'm doing a review of this album as a whole, despite the fact that I have already reviewed the three EPs that make it up. I'm doing it this way as the tracks work a little differently together when in the context of the full project. I won't deny that doing it in 3 EPs made sense as a promotional method, but it made the album feel very disconnected in the end and it's release much less impactful. In all, this album is okay. It's what I expect of Saint Motel, post-My Type. I feel like if you ... read more
The third and final part of Saint Motel's "The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" is like any other good ending of a trilogy. A messy conclusion mashed in when they had something good with the end of the second part. I can't be the only one who thinks that if they dropped the "Oh it's a soundtrack to a movie that isn't real" concept, 'The Moment' would be an amazing closer track to a proper LP. These tracks feel gimmicky and slapped together. Obviously this EP was made ... read more
Life As A Dog is a solid debut for an artist like K.Flay. She found a sound and aesthetic that worked for her and she made an album out of it. The LP is enjoyable, but in my personal opinion, it's not very notable. I wouldn't say it's safe or poorly aged, but I feel like it doesn't make much of an impression. I feel like there are some solid flows and some fun instrumentals, but ultimately it feels like K.Flay finding footing and figuring out what direction the music should take. Overall I ... read more
Overhated. That is the first thing I will say about Scaled and Icy. Is it as good as Trench? No. Is it better than Blurryface? Yes. I'd argue this album is about on par with Vessel, with one key thing making it better. The production on this album is great. While some tracks on this album are extremely forgetable, I still can enjoy them because of the production. While this definitely feels like a quarantine album, I feel like that adds to its value when it comes to sound palette. It feels like ... read more
RTJ4 was an impulse listen I made and boy am I glad I decided to listen to it. This album kicks ass! El-P and Killer Mike are some talented wordsmiths and the features on this album add so much. The writing on this LP is cutthroat and doesn't hold back. The production is slick while also unfiltered. This album is on point for the political sphere we find ourselves in, especially when it released in mid 2020. Bravo RTJ.

I feel like The Rise & Fall of Loverboy is a mess in the best way possible. It doesn't feel like a mess in the sense of "This album was made by a monkey with a typewriter" more in the sense of "This songwriter needs therapy." There's some amazing songs on this record that are clearly made out of passion and love, but there's also a lot of songs that feel a little too much like a personal breakdown for the narrator. These culminate into what I think is actually a very ... read more
I feel like Humanz fails on multiple levels. It feel like they're trying to replicate the vibe of Demon Days with the sound of Plastic Beach and the aesthetic of S/T, and it kinda falls flat, but also, it has an undeniable charm to it, in my opinion. While, yes, it is clearly making an attempt at recapturing glory of older Gorillaz work, it also feels like a solid project with a decent concept. I like how the collaborators are clearly giving it their all on this project. While I agree Damon ... read more
I'm gonna be honest, this album is MID. It is SO MID. Unbelievably MID. I have no clue why this album seems to be so revered by fans. The only explanation is "It's the release after the popular release." The production on this album is so bland I find it hard to actually focus on any part of the album. There's solid songs, yes, but they are hard to actually care about. Move is clearly an attempt to recapture the success of My Type and it fails so hard. Overall, this album is just so ... read more
I feel like My Type is a turning point in Saint Motel's discography. It's where they swap out the guitar and keys sound they started with for a horn and synth sound that they continue to work with to this day. This is not a bad start, though. The My Type EP is an incredibly fun album with a lot of they style I often praise them for. While there is use of guitar on this EP, it feels much more in the back ground compared to their previous endeavors. I feel like My Type being an EP was the best ... read more
