Wow. This is baaaaaaaad. If I Am Sad is MISSIO at their most boring, this is MISSIO at their worst. This feels completely lost in itself and like there was no idea where the EP should go. Nothing about this says "getting high" to me. Just on the nose mentions of smoking weed. Some of the tracks have grown since release, but ultimately this was a miguided project with almost nothing standing out in a good way.
P.S.: Jelani Blackman is the only reason Big Stacks isn't one of my least ... read more
Listen, I'm sorry, I like this album, but it's not as good as 30% Off!. The album falls flat due to the fact that some of the songs just feel not connected to the theme they were going for. Skin is literally the same few lines over and over again. Replay is almost laughable because Dan sounds so out of place on the track. The only track that I feel really finds the concept and fits within it is Throw Your Coins, Make A Wish. It finds that meaning of having nothing to worry about when you're ... read more
Blur returns with another enjoyable album. I like how spacey this album can feel at times. Each track brings this tranquility that I don't get from a lot of pop music these days. I appreciate more chill music like these and I think that, as a band, Blur comes forward with a solid collection of tracks.
I feel like, lyrically, the album can drag at times, but overall these are ignorable due to the album's ability to stay in its lane and aswell as its ability to step to the side and do something ... read more
Chris Black Changed My Life feels like a step in the right direction from Portugal. The Man, but at the same time, it doesn't do anything new for them. If anything, it feels like a middle ground between Evil Friends and Woodstock.
I enjoy the songs. The songs are fun and feel like the band enjoyed putting them together. The production took a massive step up from Woodstock, with each song feeling unique from eachother, while also feeling consistent. Overall, the album feels like Portugal. The ... read more
Foo Fighters releasing one of their best albums, period, in 2023 wasn't on my bingo card, but here we are...ha.
Seriously, this album is fantastic. This is Dave Grohl at his sharpest in years and the sound all wraps together well. The album is emotional when it needs to be, it finds its footing and stays there when it needs to. I love every part of this album, back to front.

Little Hurt does more of the same on Lovely Hours, but with an overall worse vibe. This cover art is horrible, first off. I get it, he's not on a label so the quality won't be amazing, but he couldn't use a little of those royalties from The Mowgli's to get some proper photoshop work done?
The actual songs are mostly fine. Solid indie-pop and some fun vibes, but nothing wholly unique. I can't say much about this album since there's just not much to say about it. It's fine. The rollout was ... read more
Ah Gorillaz, so close to doing something great again, but fell so short. I won't lie, I really like the sound palette of this album. I'm a sucker for softer, more ambient inspired pop tunes, but there is no focus on this album. The concept is incredibly interesting but is almost dropped entirely after the first track.
The album has a lot to say, but doesn't say any of it well. Every time it feels like it finds its footing, it throws it away. The rollout doesn't help the album either. Half of ... read more
Will keep this short since I'm waiting for the full double LP release to give a proper review.
HOOOOOONK SHOOOOEEEEEEE Wow this is MISSIO at their most boring. This is far from the worst MISSIO has been up to this point, but this is where MISSIO's weaknesses show the most. They come to the table with an incredibly interesting idea and just fall flat when it matters.
Favourites: What Can You Say, I Don't Like It When You're Lonely
Least Favourites: RingTing, Read Your Mind
Lagged behind on reviews, so just starting at 2023 and will hit older stuff as time goes on.
Electrophonic Chronic shows what The Black Keys should be. It's fun, it's bouncy, and it's not the same thing over and over and over again. I love everything about this record, from the bluesy production to the psychedelic elements and the beats inspired by R&B and Hip-Hop. Also, I love the cover art, genuinely one of the best cover arts of 2023.
I think Dan Auerbach kinda found his voice again ... read more
First time Bleachers have released a single I don't completely love. Feels too "We Didn't Start The Fire"-esque. I know that Bleachers have always pulled a lot from the 80s, and with the Springsteen influence on TTSOOSN, it only makes sense for them to pull from Billy Joel next, but I just can't get into this one. It's like 2013 by Arctic Monkeys. Is it bad? No, not by any means. Does it have a good riff and fun energy? Yeah, I'd say so. Is it so goofy that it's hard to take it ... read more
this is my album you should 100% listen to it if you like vibey and lyrics heavy indie pop
Not feeling this one. This really doesn't feel like MISSIO. MISSIO has been no stranger to music about indulging in hedonistic pleasure, but it always had that sense of emotion behind it. There's reason for the hedonism and there's a little subtlety. This time around I just don't get any of that. It's vapid for the sake of being vapid. Jelani Blackman is really the highlight of this track. Other than that, I'm slowly losing interest in "I Am High" and kinda just want it out of the way ... read more
Don't know why it's taken me so long to review this album, considering it's one of my all time favourites. This album is absolutely magnicifcent. The production is on point for every single track. From the soaring choruses on High, to the funky, psychedelic synths of &Run. The sheer melancholy on Fun, the airy-ness of Astronaut, the fast pace of Trippin', and the quiet but deafening feel of Headfirst. All of this topped with a fantastic closer with Oh Mama. The writing on this record is ... read more
Rare review out of the order I'm going in, giving this a review to be a real one. Might review fellow DIY emo acts when I feel up to it instead of the order I'm going in.
That's beyond the point though, the point is that this album is great. It's a very fun sounding project with very unique for production. The choice of writing is very stripped back, and, as the title suggests, this album lets synths kinda take the forefront of the soundscape. If you like albums like InnerSpeaker by Tama ... read more
Rubber Factory was an instant winner for me. It scratched much of that itch that I had while listening to the first twe Black Keys albums aswell as filling some more depth into the songs, lyrically. While it's true, much of the album is still very gritty, blues rock, I feel like they pushed some lyrical boundries this time and tried some new things with payoff. The Lengths is a perfect example of this. A song which struck me instantly when I first heard it. I feel like The Black Keys needed a ... read more
Thickfreakness doubles down on The Black Keys' original sound while also introducing some more depth to them. I feel like, while this album builds something new, it also falls into the same pit where it leaves something to be desired when it comes to the actual deeper meanings on the album. Again, the songs are bangers and the production feels a little more filled out this time, but I still feel like this album lacks depth. Overall, Thickfreakness is another solid listen from The Black Keys if ... read more
This is a nice little album. The Black Keys do very little interesting on this album, but they really don't need to. It's meant to be a simple debut album of music the band is passionate about. I feel like this album gets the appreciation it deserves and it doesn't need to go deeper than that. It's a lot of bluesy tunes which you can put on to get a groove going with friends who like it. Obviously it very much pays homage to older blues rock, especially in its use of covers. It may be ... read more
