I gave this a 10/10 but after sitting with it for 9 months it's actually like a 8.
Although I've been listening to hardcore my entire life, I've never heard anything like this in my life. The genre-bending and mind-melting sounds of this album is what makes it a must listen for hardcore fans and people who are getting into the genre. This is my 2nd favorite album of the year, and I can't wait for what this band does next.
This was my first introduction to Hobo Johnson, and to be honestly I kind of knew it would be on some level of bad. Your hopes can only go so high if an album has a user score of 22. So, knowing it wouldn't be good, I decided to listen, and nothing could prepare me for what was to come.
If you want to listen to this album, don't. It has genuinely ruined me for the past couple of hours since I listened. Not because the album is so sad, if anything it's the opposite. This album has killed any ... read more
Purified Oil's "joy" is what the end of the world sounds like. Hopeless doesn't even start to describe how I felt trying to listen to this. joy is an apocalyptic hellhole and I love every second of it. The way it utilizes the brutality of harsh noise to force an uneasy feeling on the listener is incredible. The tracks sound exactly like the cover. A giant black cloud looming over peaceful white landscapes matches the foreboding atmosphere of the album flawlessly. There are few ... read more
Ys, while beautiful, is admittedly a very difficult album to understand. On first listen, you’ll likely have a good time with it, but not be blown away. But the more and more you listen, the genius of the record begins to show. This leads to an album that feels new and exciting with each relisten, always picking up little details. Easily one of the most rewarding listens I’ve heard in a while.
(But seriously how did she have a side project with Zach Hill of all people)
Nurture is an album I used to despise. I hated its happy-go-lucky attitude. I genuinely thought that a song from the children's show Barney the Dinosaur would give me the exact same feeling and substance I would get from any of Porter's music. To say I didn't get the appeal was an understatement. As I saw it getting high placements on youtuber's and other music fan's year end lists, I thought to myself, "Why does this bland, milk toast, boring album keep popping up?! What's so special ... read more
This took me completely by surprise. I was looking to get into more vaporwave at the time I heard this project, and my expectations were completely blown out of the water. To me, this is the best vaporwave album. It's spacious atmosphere, comforting instrumentation, and fun character really make it a joy to listen to on rough days. 100% Electronica is a phenomenal vaporwave album that I whole-heartedly recommend to fans of the genre. 10/10.
Swans is a band that I have mixed feelings about. Their work is very hit or miss with me. But this album hit like a freight train. No Wave Swans have always been my favorite era of swans’ sound with how relentless it is compared to their contemporaries. This album takes that relentlessness and turns it up to a max. Public Castration solidifies Swans as being a dangerous live act (with that still holding up today). The guitars are brutal and the drums are deafening. Gira screams his heart ... read more
So....... where the heck do I start with this? Viet Cong is an album that I listened to. I have been aware of this album previously because it was recommended to me relentlessly by Apple Music. One day, (about like a week ago today) I finally gave in and decided to listen to it. Apple Music said that this album was similar to Deathcon (for some reason) so I went in expecting a shoegaze-esque vibe while still being very post punk inspired. And lemme tell you, this is post punk alright. While ... read more
I can understand why people like this album but I find it boring and uninteresting. The sounds he plays with are cool I guess and I appreciate the concept but this is definitely not everything people say it is.
Man I’ve been on a roll recently with these spicy takes that will probably get me beheaded in the near future!
So.... Grimes is a human (I think). And this human has done things and what a variety of things they have done. I’ve kinda avoided listening to Grimes’ albums for some reason. Idk why but I’ve never bothered to listen to her material. I have my Bjork I don’t need any other Art Pop. But in all seriousness there was something stopping me from listening to ... read more
Codas is an essential listen this year for fans of electronic music. The way synth sounds are utilized to create a spacious feeling is insanely remarkable. Drug Tape Loop and Sidewalk Near House are utterly remarkable songs that absolutely blow my mind. The latter having one of the best drops in a song this year. But it still has some problems. I do think at times it’s a little amateurish and the transitions can be messy. One of the transitions being so sudden it actually took me out of ... read more

I WANTED TO LIKE THIS SO MUCH AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
PUP is a band I'd wanted to check out for a while, specifically their 2019 release Morbid Stuff. I knew going into this that it'd be some sort of new pop punk phenomenon and quite frankly I was excited. I've been a fan of the newer pop punk to come out this decade and I was excited to hear a new band take a unique approach on it. But sadly I was not very impressed or entertained during this album. First things first I want to start ... read more
Every single problem I had with GCW is fixed here. The singing is more pleasant, the songs or more memorable, and the songwriting is arguably better. I'm so happy I was able to like this album.
Mid as expected
(Girls want girls is one of the worst songs of the year.)
