There's a lot of directions an artist can take once they become popular. Kate Bush had many hits by the time this was being made, but instead of continuing the style she had, she just went all out. Unlike her last album, she was the sole producer here and it allowed her to experiment more. She took that opportunity and created the most unique and interesting album in her career. There's so many odd parts to this album that's it's hard to even list. The opener, Sat In Your Lap, really shows off ... read more
The Clash are an iconic band, one of the most influential punk artists and have several classic songs and albums under their belt. London Calling is one of my favorite albums ever made. While there's serious weak points in their career, it's overall pretty good. What's no secret by now is that tacked at the end of their solid discography is one of the worst albums ever made. As soon as you start this album you are assaulted by Dictator, which is this Beefheart-esque mess of a song. None of the ... read more
The first release by the brave little abacus, and it manages to be the weirdest and most experimental release they've done. A lot of the odd sampling and shifting styles that they would go on to experiment with later in their career is present here. It's all used together really well, such as the shifting between samples and riffs on You're Not Me. It's easy to tell this is their first release, but it's also far from demo quality. There's some incredible songs on here which contend with some of ... read more
It's been a while since I've heard an album that's moved me as much as this. The two singles released for this album hinted at something game changing coming out, and it delivered. Every bit of this is so unique and dripping with emotion. It's dedicated to Groggs, a member of the group that passed last year. The whole album deals with the aftermath of the loss, and to me represents the 5 stages of grief being lived through. The pain is delivered through the off putting and glitchy songs. The ... read more
One of the most popular and well liked live albums ever, and some even call it their best release. Turning the aggressive grunge of their studio albums into acoustic songs is a nice turn, and gives the album a sense of uniqueness from everything else they've done. Personally, I do prefer the grunge to the acoustic, but this is still a really nice listen. All the great songwriting is still there, and there's less of a leaning to play the hits. Instead, the songs seem to be more based on how well ... read more
