I'm stuck on a journey of reviewing every song that came on after I tried listening to Kid Cudi's Grave. This is the best one so far. A well deserved sequel. So fun, flows just as insane, and production was somehow crazier still. SkiMask has been doing himself a disservice trying to get on rage beats or other styles. He needs to go back to his weird ass roots, and if this is any indication, he's heading in the right direction.
This came on the shuffle after the new Kid Cudi singles, if that's any indication.
why did I just get an ad for this.
if I were to review seriously, I'd say it feels really stuck on being formulaic but also somehow the guitars never really crescendo and it gives the whole song this feeling of stasis. Seems like a more realistic song than the godawful Neverland, but it still has me perplexed. I really miss WZRD! That was such a fun project that blended his rockstar sensibilities and made some fun experiments. Here, it feels like he's playing it so safe that ... read more
I think Fountain Baby is one of the best albums of the decade. This...is so stripped back it's not really working for me. Maybe if I'm walking around the city with my headphones on, but I got this playing at home and I can't get the hell out of my chair....
The infinite JID gazes over the Atlantean multiverse with fulfilled purpose, and makes karma his bitch on the fascinating & excellent God Does Like Ugly. First track gave me psychic damage. Community put the fear of God in me. VCRs gave me a glimmer of hope. Sk8 got me out of my seat. K-Word parked my ass. But Of Blue left me speechless. Incredible and versatile, The Forever Story was the journey, but GDLU shows that the destination is just as glorious.
Truly awe inspiring. I'm not that much of a Quadeca fan. But I've been enjoying reading the reviews from other folks on this website that have been following him for the past 5 years and beyond. As a general note, you would be hard pressed to find something wrong with this project that isn't based on a personal preference. It's an album about loneliness that does it's darnedest to make you feel less alone. And then those last 20 minutes...wow. It's emotionally ... read more
EDIT: The new So Be It beat was a sample issue, which changed a huge part of how I contextualized the album on the first listen. Adjusted review now that the OG is back on streaming.
Let God Sort Em Out is Clipse's first album since 2009! Other than the By Storm album, this was my most anticipated album of last AND this year!! The Thornton Brothers, Pusha T and the re-christened No Malice have traveled the world and back since, dropping solo projects and discovering new passions in ... read more
This is that early 2010's sound that has been missing for so long! Kinda emotional too, as we know Kanye's done and so many others have moved on with their sound. This was a throwback in the best possible way.
CARTI!
I had so much fun listening to this, and doing all my chores. There is a lot to love, and a lot to be frustrated about this record. I don't want to be one of THOSE people, but seeing some of the best songs here getting ratio'd on Rate Tracks has me feeling conflicted. Like, these are the same people that think 'peekaboo' is the worst song on GNX. Be so serious! This is an hour of non stop head bopping swaggering fun, and I'm wondering if ratings in the future ... read more
Last good song Busta's made was with Hodgy Beats I fear
The reason why Hereditary is so scary to some is that it weaves in the personal and impersonal so effectively that it makes you feel like demons are actually real.
Feels like I died and people played home videos at my funeral and then rapped over it
Looking back, they really snapped with this. Mindbogglingly fun, and then crushingly introspective, and then back and forth until your bones are powder. Dear God!
