Sound collage lovers will adore this. Beats are monolithic, walls of noise, snippets and synths, propelling you through a psychedelic journey through the gates of hell. And someone needs to take the blade away from Uncle Al, I think he's really gonna cut someone this time...
THERE'S THREE UNCS LEFT
Much better than expected, welcome home Mr. Hit.
I really forgot there was a time when pop music could move you both physically and emotionally. So confusing!!!!!!!!
Re-Review 100 -> 91: Trying to get a sense of my grading mechanics. I do believe that Brat is a perfect circle of an album. And I believe that the social commentary that this album participates in and inspired is incredible. But maybe that still isn't enough to be mind-boggling or utterly euphoric for me. Nonetheless, it's still an incredible feat, arguably her best ... read more
now this is what psychedelic hip-hop production is all about
re-rate -> 94 - 97 ok crying to Lost Times got me this album is unbelievable
While also managing to be sonically, lyrically & humorously ridiculous as hell, Dominique dumbs down the clunky, pseudo-intellectual, "talk down to your audience" attitudes that plague some of the worst "conscious rap", and somehow creates one of the deepest, most spiritually edifying, philosophical, and optimistic records of all time.
shattered dreams
this album came into my life during a stressful time of change, when I was dropping out of college, losing a lot of friends, and really wrestling with the idea that I was a failure. Somedays I'm still wrestling with these emotions.
Ultimately, Some Rap Songs is a wonderful record that helps me wrestle with my own existence. It's a beautifully despondent and resolute album. Here, Earl is crawling out of an unhealthy season of depression, only to lose two guiding ... read more
This is such a deeply melancholic and despondent record, it's almost like Cities Aviv, and the beats he concocts, feel lost to time, and left behind. However, no sound is outspokenly sad, but worn down, lingering on despite the odds, as if it were a dwindled, but still resolutely flickering flame. It makes me think of those that are long gone, and opportunities and relationships long past. I'm living in Philadelphia rn and I just had to put down my childhood dog, Bella. I'm ... read more
the first plane hit the field
euphoria and meet the grahams hit the towers
now not like us just hit the Embassy
Now that the dismantling of Drake is well and done, all K-Dot has left to do is crip walk on his grave. On a Mustard beat no less. First Alchemist, then Mustard, J Dilla’s gonna come back and diss Drake at this rate.
It really feels like Kendrick posted a picture from inside of Drake's house. Absolutely disgusting clap back in only 50 minutes.
So Aubrey Epstein has another hidden child that's OLDER than Adonis?
Again, both folks could be lying, or just have unsubstantiated evidence. I pray I'm proven wrong. I would love for Kendrick to pull up with the mounties to the Embassy, shake Trudeau's hand and call it a night. No more songs, please. My little heart can't take it.
You're lying if you don't think this was an impressive escalation. I haven't even posted a review of Euphoria, because cmon, 95 ?!? We know how we feel about it. But as I finally grew past my 50th listen of the track, I felt weird that I realized it didn't really present anything new about Drake. It instead just establishes that K Dot is ready to fight in real-time. But at what cost?
It's almost perfect that Family Matters sounds terrible compared to Euphoria, with three disjointed beats, ... read more
I can't help but think about so many things when I listen to this album. What hasn't been said already? It's like a spiritual and sonic sequel to all of VW's albums so far, it feels more political and philosophical than any of their albums so far and does a lot to vulnerably tear down (or at least expand upon) their seemingly privileged upscale NYC prep school exteriors from their younger years. It also just so happens to be one of the most beautifully produced, ambitiously composed & ... read more
This was way more direct that “Like That” and y’all hate to admit it
Where “Like That” was more of a surface level diss (im the best, ur albums buns, MJ died before Prince and my shooters will make sure of it?), like with any debate, the initial rebuttal always is a little stronger than the opening arguments because they have a chance to respond directly to those claims as well as present new criticisms forward. Drake did both here, riffing energetically off of ... read more
true story I literally screamed outloud "YESSSS!!!!" halfway through the second verse
In typical travis scott fashion, 4 songs less and this would be a masterpiece.
In atypical fashion, travis scott rounds out a bit more as an artist and expands the pallet and ambition of what an international rager could sound like. K-Pop is a snooze fest compared to what UTOPIA really has behind its dark and colorful gates.
"Fuck y'all n*ggas I feel like Papa John" is an absolutely UNHINGED line
Which I guess is how you could describe this whole ridiculous album experience. But can you blame them for doing exactly what they said they would with this title? They made goofy a-ha music an actual genre, and it's actually amazing to witness that the singles and snippets we heard are actually the least mania-inducing parts of the album.
I wish that it ended with more bounce, or that I could make out more ... read more
