i really should be asleep instead of listening and reviewing this but MAYBE IM AN INSOMNIBLACK!!
Mothertrucker, this album is everything and more. It expands exponentially on the saga that is Noname Gypsy with far more complex, mature beats, layered song structures and Noname's most precise and poignant verses to date.
She effortlessly dances, dictates and divines over this superb effort. It plays like a jazzy, and I dare say, cinematic jam sesh with homages to Badu and D'Angelo alike. Some ... read more
Let me be the one to hold you tight. The endearing vocals bubbling underneath the cacophony of snares and that stalwart synth through and through on the final track is the most powerful moment on this immaculate, mind bending, world-ending album. It speaks to the raw power and energy that love has, in this moment and forever. Yves' most accomplished work to date, and easily one of the best albums of the year.

Quarterthing = quartereffort. How are people thinking this is next level goodness! Super basic and underwhelming.
best tracks: godbody pt. 2, elastic, look at my wrist
Sometimes you gotta see someone perform their stuff live to really let the majesty sink in. This album is like a smorgasbord of beautiful encouragement, and it's just what 2018 needs.
FAVE TRACKS: Saint, Hope, Orlando, Holy Will, Charcoal Baby, Minetta Creek, Dagenham Dream
wow I hate his voice
there were parts I liked, and then immediately after I would regret that statement. But....

YOU AINT KNOW HE SELL HOOKS AND CHORUSES?
THEY COULDN'T BANG THE SLANG IF THEY LOOKED IN THESAURUSES
Doom concept albums cant be beat, and the soulful speakeasy talent show vibe destroys me every time. FORREAL THESE BEATS ARE DOWNRIGHT DIABOLICAL

YUCK, IS THEY RAPPERS OR STRIPPIN MALES
OUT OF WORK JERKS SINCE THEY SHUT DOWN CHIPPENDALES
I got this on vinyl for my best friend for his B-Day. Besides that fun fact, THE SKITS ARE BETTER, THE RAPS ARE LAUGHTER, and DOOM literally makes an album unlike anyone elses, even within his own famed discography.
fave tracks: Beef Rap, Potholderz, Deep Fried Frenz, Kon Karne, Rapp Snitch Knishes,
CATCH A THROATFUL OF THE FIRE VOCALED ASH AND MOLTEN GLASS LIKE EYJAFJALLAJÖKULL

fave tracks: Guv'nor, Banished, Bite The Thong, Rhyming Slang, GMO
WHO NEEDS A HEATER CATCH YOU WITH BARE HANDS
C'mon fam, the low fi dreamy beats, the startling imagery, and some of his sharpest rhymes, this is the DOOM that doesn't disappoint. One of his best easily.
uh, Yeah, AND?!?!
fave tracks: Fazers, Fastlane, Anti Matter, I Wonder, Krazy World (I shall one day play this for my children)
I'M NICER THAN THE GOOD SAMARITAN!
but unfortunately that's really all there is in terms of really memorable wordplay. It's technically still a rap highlight of the year, with interesting production, fun skits, and that technical lyricisim we've all come to love from these guys, but yeah, these villains are clearly not operating at the hight of their powers here. That's where the real disappointment lies.
fave tracks: Nautical Depth, Forever People, Badness of Madness, Captain Crunch & ... read more
just quickly going through and giving ratings to my favorite rap records of the year
I love the sonic palette that Saba creates here, as opposed to his sporadic Bucket List project, the songs here seem focused, potent and existing in the same somber universe, falling in line to personify the melancholy, and different enough that it's creative and varying song structures and ideas really pop to the attentive listener. Honestly, people will be upset at this that aren't willing to give it the ... read more
who's the idiot who decided Truffle Butter doesn't deserve to be on the main album?!?
also every emotional song on here sounds the same
and there's so much pop influence that any interesting song idea,
like Trini Dem Girls, becomes bogged down instead of allowed to be the freak it is! Why Nicki why!!!
also there's a song called Big Daddy about rap's favorite cuckhold Meek Mill...
thank goodness the singles are some of her best tracks period.

wow I kinda forgot that Nicki is a scarily good rapper when she wants to be
Unfortunately, there are some real low filler points to compensate the highs, but I could see why this could become my favorite album of hers. There are more raps for square inch on this behemoth, and the songs she spits on range from dancehall ballads to serious trunk knockers, showing off her humor, her versatility, and occasional glimpses at her humanity, all the while retaining her regal killer instincts.
And I got ... read more

don't tell me I'm gon be ok, cause this is NOT ok?!??!? (actual lyrics)
I jUsT bOuGhT mE A HaNdGun which YG then used to shoot himself in the foot. Yikes. This is an album that isn't 100% terrible sounding, but terrible because theres no reason to listen to it the first time, let alone ever again. Also YG raps like he's 4. yuck
fave tracks reluctantly: handgun cause wow
NOW THIS IS THE PROPER SEQUEL TO RODEO
Tbh I was a little worried after hearing the first part of Stargazing. That vocal pitch change is super cringe on the first listen. So it was to my deep surprise when the beat switched AND HE STARTED FLOWING?!? Mind you, Travis hasn't really rapped since, like, 2015, so I choked on my midnight snack. Would this be a fluke? Thankfully NAW.
Everything that made Travis great in the first place is in TOP form here, as Travis finds the perfect mesh between ... read more
