The first Hitler wears Hermes project with a unique name, and they probably never sounded the same after this one. I don't know, I'm just judging by the titles of the last 3, but I think they're definetely not going to sound like any of the HWH projects he's made in the past.
This was a good album to release a month before one of his greatest ones ever. Most of the songs are actually really decent, with just a few weaker tracks. They're still ok though.
Sure as hell it ... read more
This was his worst album when it came out, and there's probably very few competitors.
Westside Gunn's previous project was pretty dissapointing, and this doesn't make up for it at all. Barely any notable tracks, more songs that were hardly listenable.
But damn, this was actually very dissapointing, I thought it'd be atleast decent, since 66 isn't that bad of a user score, but no, it's quite literally much worse than that.
The highlights aren't top tier, but ... read more
Pretty much a worse sequel that nobody asked for. It's becoming a common occasion where there's one good song on the mixtape that really stands out to the rest of it.
The original FIAAG was pretty good, but this is a degrade for sure. He's been teasing the 3rd one for some time now, I hope he doesn't mess it up considering how long it's taking.
This is lowkey nothing like volume 1 of the series, I guess the atmosphere sort of reminds me of it, but besides that, it ... read more
Out of all the Westside Gunn projects, I've been most excited about this one. After listening to it, I honestly can't pick my favourite album from him. I think I already have my top 3, since I doubt any of the projects after this one are gonna compare to them.
The whole experience of this album is so angelic, I was relaxed pretty much the whole time during the second half of it. The atmosphere of the songs really varies, but eitherway, hardcore or chill, they sound good.
Even though I ... read more
Was looking forward to this one because of Freestyle. I did infact enjoy that song a lot, but the rest of the mixtape didn't really surprise me in any way.
So apparently this is WSG's first project, but it was officially released in 2020, recorded in 2005. He does sound quite different on here, and I actually enjoyed his vocals. I think young Gunn was already good at his thing.
I can't say that this mixtape was bad, but there's a decent number of flaws I can feel on here. I ... read more
I haven't seen a worse fit before. He looked cool on the Hitler wears Hermes covers until now. He looks like he just woke up and decided to hop in the streets without a single second to focus on his outfit.
But besides the horrible cover, this was another average project in the series. There's quite a lot of decent songs that are hard to not enjoy, but let's not ignore the other songs. This would be somewhat better if he kept some of the weaker songs out of this mixtape, but oh ... read more
I looked at this like another average Westside Gunn project, but it was slightly better than that. It's pretty mixed, but the songs are mostly good with just a few less enjoyable ones.
Honestly, it's hard to describe what I just listened to, but it's kind of a more chill mixtape than WSG usually makes.
I like the beats, I think they're quite similar to what he was rapping on in the past, but it was somewhat better than the usual production his albums have.
His performance on ... read more
This was the best HWH project when it came out. That was until 8: Side B came out, but I believe this is going to be the 2nd best. Also, I found out there's 12 of them, he just didn't include "Hitler wears Hermes" in the titles of the last 3. So maybe one of them will outdo this one, but I find it hard to believe.
There's so many great songs on here, and I feel like it had the most potential to be the first must-hear project in the series, but there's a few songs ... read more
Every must-hear album in Westside Gunn's discography is like a checkpoint. You suffered your way through some weaker projects, and then get to hear an actually decent project every once in a while. I was definetely satisfied with this checkpoint, maybe it's a little bit worse than some of his other must-hear projects, but it's still good, and among some of his best ones.
All of the stats on this album are pretty solid, the features could be better, but I think it also lacks some ... read more
His shortest project so far, and I hope it will remain that, because damn, I was so let down when I saw that there's only 5 songs on here. It started off really well, but yet again, this is another WSG project that's ruined by the short runtime of it.
I would rate this much higher if it was atleast 20 minutes long, but I guess I have to settle on this score, only because it's so short. There were a few weaker tracks anyway, so I think that's even more reasonable to rate it ... read more
Out of all the cover ideas.. surely there was something less controversial than this, right?
Besides the cover, there aren't any bad parts on this mixtape to be fair. There are some less enjoyable moments, but the overall outcome was better than I expected.
The Hitler wears Hermes series hasn't be very good so far.. I have listened to 8: Side B, and I enjoyed it, but out of the first 5, there haven't been a lot of great projects to be fair, I hope it can change from this point, ... read more
I was quite excited to listen to this project simply because of The Cow, the song a lot of people consider his best one. Personally, I'd consider it a Conway song because his verse was longer and more lyrical, but eitherway, it's probably his best song.
With the rest of the project, I was quite dissapointed. How can you have such a great song as the intro, and then mess up pretty much the whole album with songs that aren't even miles close to it?
Of course, there's still a ... read more
Finally we're getting somewhere. This could be the possible peak of WSG's career, but I shouldn't be too quick to judge. I believe there could be a project in his catalogue that can outdo this one, but it's probably quite unlikely. The only reason I think that it's still possible to beat it is because I gave it the same score as HWH8:SB.
So far, it is my favourite album of his, and I think it's gonna be really hard for my opinion to change.
I really liked this ... read more
It has the runtime that I wanted on his earlier projects, but the album itself is really mid, and considering that most of the tracks are quite boring, I don't appreciate the length on here. Hitler Wears Hermes 2 would've been better with a runtime like this.
Atleast I got rid of this album, since I could just tell it was going to be really boring. 44 minutes of tracks that sound quite ambient and then there's also some unnecessary skits too.
Personally, I find this album to be ... read more
Not even that deep in WSG's discography, and it's already a must-hear album. Can't say it's not, but I think it could use some more length, but besides that, it's great.
Yeah, not primarily a Westside Gunn album, and it's great seeing him being on a collab album. I think it'd be a bit too boring if there weren't any collab albums, so it's great to see atleast one so early in his discography.
It's dissapointing how most of the tracks on here are ... read more
It's better than the original in pretty much every stat, but it still isn't great. Yes, I enjoyed it a lot more than HWH, there's more songs that I could actually enjoy, but I still think it lacks that atmosphere that the best Westside Gunn albums have.
Still short, it's only 3 tracks / 6 minutes longer than the previous Hitler project. If there were more songs on this, maybe I could enjoy this album better, but I couldn't say the same for HWH1. Some of the songs on ... read more
I always come to that point where I have no music to listen to so I eventually end up listening to someone's discography, and here we are again.. This one's gonna be painful, I can just tell. Westside Gunn's catalogue is filled with either good or mid projects, but I won't listen to all of them. Only gonna listen to the ones available on spotify, so atleast that's less torture for me.
Some reviews are probably gonna end up being really boring and just short in general, ... read more
This album might have the worst sex interlude that I know of. Hopefully I won't have to hear more of them, cause I'm damn tired of them. The only competitors with the one on here are the ones on Ready to Die and The Chronic.
Besides that, this album was nothing short of amazing. I wouldn't expect such a lyricist to make sex interludes, but what do you know.. stuff like that can always happen. And Biggie had one on his best album too, so what can I say.
For some reason, Latino ... read more
Didn't have anything else to listen to before this so I just decided to listen to it right away like I said on my review MATSB.
I enjoyed this better than Mecca, simply because there are more songs that I really enjoyed, but I think this album has a bit less songs that the group is actually know for. T.R.O.Y. really boosted their popularity, and I think none of the songs on this album did anything close to what that song did for their popularity.
Eitherway, this album was their better one, ... read more
I didn't know which Pete Rock & CLS album to listen to so I just decided to start with this one and listen to their 2nd one after. Maybe not right away, but definetely gonna listen to it.
And damn, this was good as hell! I didn't think much of it at first, I just expected an ordinary oldschool rap album, you know, good production and all that, but no, it turned out better than that. The stats on here outdo the usual album and are much more unique aswell.
