Edward Skeletrix - Museum Music
58

Edward Skeletrix is like a cross between JPEGMAFIA and Playboi Carti, which is pretty cool on paper - and while there are some nice moments on this project, they're few and far between. The creativity exceeds the execution on this one.

Favorites: Typical Rap Song 11 (#1), Life's So Funny, God Made You A Monster
Least favorite: Making Art For Money

Hyperbeat - Circuit Breaker

I'm really proud of how this one turned out

JACKBOYS - JACKBOYS 2
27

Out of the 45 albums I’ve listened to so far from 2025, JACKBOYS 2 is my least favorite. I was somewhat excited for this project, but nothing could have prepared me for the way this turned out. It has zero standouts, but somehow it’s still ridiculously inconsistent with some wildly low lows. After Travis dropped my favorite project of his recently (UTOPIA), my hopes were high, but Travis specifically sounded bored and even just straight up bad at times. The features were forgettable ... read more

Dom Corleo - Club Siberia
80

Honestly such a fire project. The first half is noticeably better than the second unfortunately, but Dom just continues to surprise me. This isn’t anything super innovative or anything, but the production is consistently great and there are some serious bangers on here.

Favorites: Should’ve Known, Alicia, Gmfb (#1), Cry On My Shoulder
Least favorite: Damn Right

Photographic Memory - I look at her and light goes all through me
63

While there are some really solid standouts and not a bad song throughout this project, most of it sounds all too similar to what Jane Remover and other underground artists were making better four years ago.

Favorites: We made it, I Heard You, Clearly, Spill (#1), Light Goes Through Me (close #2)
Least favorite: Heartstyle (it was hard to choose)

HXG - 5G

is meechie okay???

Clipse - Let God Sort Em Out
68

This is culturally inappropriate is July’s response to Swamp Izzo

At least to me this was a bit overhyped but the lyrics were on 9-10 the entire time which is insane for people who have been rapping this long - I just don’t really like the way their vocals sound and some of the auto tuned hooks sounded like they were AI. Production was solid but nothing incredible. I don’t see myself returning to this full project, but I’ll probably go back to my favorites from the ... read more

Skybreak - HALF BLOOD
79

Skybreak has been one of my favorite producers in the game ever since I began listening to him just over three years ago, and I was excited to see that he was releasing an album for the first time since I started listening to him. While I prefer his Moonglow EP from 2022, I still enjoyed a lot of this album. I especially liked how Skybreak merged a more classic style of dubstep with his own signature melodic sound. My least favorites leaned further into that older sound, but I still respect ... read more

A$AP NAST - AMG Music

They did NOT cook. Kinda sucks cuz I was hyped asf for this

JID - The Never Story
68

JID is dropping his pre-deluxe to his upcoming album God Don’t Like Ugly tomorrow, so I thought I’d finish off his album catalog. After listening to The Never Story, it’s clear to me that JID is one of those artists who’s significantly improved since his career got going, but he’s always had the talent to make him the standout talent that he is. While The Forever Story is incomparably better than this album as a sequel, The Never Story still has its moments. One ... read more

Fox Stevenson - Sunk Cost Fallacy
49

Sunk Cost Fallacy is an album where it’s obvious that the effort between different musical elements isn’t evenly distributed, unfortunately. Fox’s production is catchy and with an interesting sound, specifically on the synth side of things. However, his songwriting needs work, to put it constructively. While a couple of tracks, such as “Tryhard” and “Told You So” have passable lyrics and nice vocals, most songs fall on the opposite end of the spectrum. ... read more

A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory
86

Such a legendary album, and for good reason. With the modern values of the world some of these lyrics have aged horribly, specifically about women and homosexual people. However, some of those more daring lyrics about other topics have held up without controversy, and are pretty funny. Another characteristic of older rap, the slang and general word use has become a bit corny in the modern state of the world, but again, it’s perfectly great in context: Young Thug saying “slime” ... read more

Kanye West - Late Registration
68

After his recent actions in February and later, I decided to not listen to any more Kanye. At this point, I’ve created a distinction between Kanye West and Ye, and I can’t deny that Kanye is a ridiculously talented artist, even though he is currently tarnishing his legacy. That aside, this is a weaker project from him, but far from bad. I felt like the samples weren’t as soulful, the lyricism wasn’t as consistent (“it’s a celebration bitchesssssss” was ... read more

BeyoncΓ© - Lemonade
71

After something like a year of my friend Declan begging me to listen to a Beyoncé album, it finally happened. And while it wasn’t the most life-changing listen of all time, it certainly had some incredible moments. It was nice to hear some variety throughout the project, such as the distorted sound of “Don’t Hurt Yourself” and the country-influenced “Daddy Lessons,” with Beyoncé’s classic pop-R&B sound still being present. The ... read more

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
72

I was worried when I opened up Wish You Were Here saw five tracks and forty-four minutes: a daunting average track length of nearly nine minutes. However, after finishing my listen, I didn’t have a problem with some songs exceeding the twelve-minute mark: I only wished that there was more done with that time. Wish You Were Here is an uplifting memorial project, full of strong guitar riffs and incredible synth work for 1975. I didn’t like the vocals too much at first, since they felt ... read more

HXG - Snot or Not
60

Homixide Gang has been a group that I’ve had my eye on ever since I started listening to Opium, since I felt like they have a ton of potential as a group. So, in preparation for their upcoming album “Homixide Lifestyle 2,” I decided to check out this project: the one with several of the duo’s biggest songs. It got off to a great start with ADHD, but after getting about halfway into the project, it became clear that it was going to be an inconsistent listen. While the ... read more

Shameless. - i looked at death in her beautiful eyes
78

Shameless is yet another artist that I’ve come across who is mind bogglingly underrated, sitting at just over 2200 monthly listeners on Spotify. I feel very grateful to have discovered their music, since it takes brakence’s already compelling emo-glitch style, and turns up the glitch. It turns down the vocals to do that, but it doesn’t hurt the project much. What seems like abstract textures on paper becomes a collage of emotion from Shameless, adding more life to their ... read more

57

I’m glad these songs didn’t make the album, but I still enjoyed them somewhat: just not as much as I typically expect by JID. Unlike some people, I still think GDLU will be on the typical level of JID’s other recent work, since 32 Freestyle is one of his best songs in my opinion.

Ranking:
1. Lisa
2. Enemies
3. Behold
4. Knew Better

Shameless. - windflower
95

Insane in every meaning of the word (except for the bad ones).

Ethel Cain - Fuck Me Eyes
85

Not a standout in Ethel’s discography but still a nice track. Lyrics are actually more compelling than I expected. However, the production is pretty average, and I don’t get why everyone’s raving over it: in my opinion Nettles was better produced than this. That said, I still like this song quite a lot, and I’m sure it’ll grow on me with time.
