One More Time (59):
Has some very solid lyrics and the ideas are there, it's just the fact that Travis produced it and it sounds about as shittily overproduced as one of those generic new wave of pop punk projects he was doing like a year or two ago. I think the achilles heel of this album will be the production, cause man I like the core track here.
More Than You Know (85):
The compressed and clean and shitty production is also on here, but this one shines through with its execution. ... read more
BLINK-182 | CHAPTER FOUR
Take Off Your Pants And Jacket (yes, a group of dudes in their mid to late twenties thought this was the funniest shit) is yet another success story from the scrappy trio of SoCal punks, but it reflects a growing problem in pop punk (at least in the mainstream). There’s a big stagnation here from the two years that have passed, and on their fourth record that makes things begin to feel a little stale. My track ratings don’t necessarily reflect this issue, ... read more
While an admirable attempt to mature her sound and being filled to the brim with an abundance of personality and color, the frankly awful lyrics, repetitive song topics and samey song structures bog this down a lot. Regardless of the overall quality, however, I do see the potential and actually enjoy a few songs and vocal performances. Intrigued to see the progression after this.
Zach Bryan's smooth-tongued, cigarette slurping, humble mama's boy aesthetic combined with genuinely enticingly grounded storytelling, breezey production and a great cast of features makes for a record that feels like a breath of fresh air. Gives me a new appreciation for the genre.
...probably shouldnt've been playing Doom Eternal while listening tho.
Bro really tried pulling the Quadeca maneuver, whilst lacking the understanding of the genuine growth and maturity and, especially, the hard work Ben put in to make such a grandiose and heartfelt project.
Tuv clearly paid a bunch of dudes to produce him some "Indie Rock Alternative Deftones Beats"(sic) and monotonously crooned over them for this record's barely twenty minute runtime. His voice is audibly heavily processed to the point where it sounds like I'm listening to Nav after ... read more
I was really expecting to love this, as it seemed right up my alley (and Chop Suey + Toxicity are pretty good), but I just can't get past how annoying, one note, gimmicky and stupid it is. I love zany and dumb music, but Serj makes me wince with his painfully forced and tryhard vocals, and the lyrics..god. They're not even dumb fun, they're just corny and asinine (especially from an, at the time, thirty three year old).
While I can see why someone would love this, it just feels like nails on a ... read more
Instead of reinventing the wheel, she’s reinventing the squeal.
annoying ass vocals over basic power pop instrumental with substandard lyrics about a topic that I couldn’t care less about. how many times are we gonna do this, ms rodrigo????
This is very forward-thinking and revolutionary for the aoty scene. This is something to be proud of. Wonderfully and soulfully produced double sided single here, my man.
BLINK-182 | CHAPTER THREE
Continuing the tale of Blink-182, the sarcastic and snotty skate punk trio from Southern California, we see a continued spike in success what with the rise of a new Punkular sub-genre titled Pop Punk in the states, the trail of which being lead by scene titans like Green Day and The Offspring. In the wake of this newfound success, the second and most popular single on their second and previous album (Dude Ranch), Dammit, had been certified Gold in the states with ... read more
What am I even supposed to say anymore? This is yet another dumb and derivative pop punk song that rears its head into the pop mainstream for a little then is immediately forgotten.
I’m not Nik Nocturnal, this bullshit isn’t gonna work with me.
For someone who constantly has the impulse/addiction to defend their shitty hot takes and has spent multiple hours doing so, this sure is some of the most sterile, soulless, wimpy, cringey and forced metal I’ve heard in quite a bit. Every song sounds like a shitty Trapt/Breaking Benjamin impression and the writing is just as well. The production is also fucking drywall as it’s very apparent the vast majority of this is programmed and our wonderful narrator here clearly doesn’t ... read more
BLINK-182 | CHAPTER TWO
This album slaps! Much like what I wanna do to that bull’s voluptuous sack!
After the semi-buzz the SoCal trio’s debut LP acquired after some slight rotation and heavy touring, they’d be swooped up from indie label Cargo Music by big league MCA. The signing of the boys to a major could be partially attributed to the indie buzz around them, but could also be attributed to the fact that since Cheshire Cat in 95’ Skate Punk and Pop Punk had ... read more
Another Gecs record I have a pretty infamous and well-documented history with. Good memories, eh?
But yeah in the wake of me enjoying the new 100 Gecs record, 10000 Gecs, I decided it would be interesting and nostalgic to look back on this with the hindsight and context of me actually really not hating this band anymore and actually finding myself enjoying their new stuff and rooting for them.
So after all the drama and INCREDIBLY underlined opinions and the years and years of listening to ... read more
I think before I even begin talking about this album it’s important to understand my history with this group.
Around three years ago when I joined the site (old man vibes) and I was a completely negative, jealous, raging dickface this band happened to be in my line of fire quite often. I just didn’t understand quite exactly people saw in their “shitpost” music. In hindsight, I think really getting into more music (especially weird schizo music) has glistened more light ... read more
This song is tacky, cheap-sounding, corny, cringe, and certainly I’m not the target audience this was going for.
With all that being said, though, I truly think this song being this low is because of Brad exaggerating a bit and his goof troop following suit. There’s really nothing that makes this any worse than many of the other gimmicky and dumb TikTok-bred smash hits of the past year or so.
It’s a product of anti-hype from a dude with a big following that thrives off of ... read more
I’m gonna give this a 100 because I personally love TV static.
