This is basically just a more fleshed out Dark Lane Demo Tapes. There are some songs here that I enjoyed. However, the highlights are too far and few between to make this album more than just a generally uninteresting hour-and-a-half long slog with some of Drake’s most uninspired work yet.
Listened to this with a makeshift MF DOOM mask I cut out of a Ramen Noodles box on my face.

Cole drops another project riddled with flaws and highlights that make you wonder why he doesn’t continue to execute consistently. No one is immune complacency as J. Cole fails to even drop the most intriguing hip hop project of the day. If this continues it would seem his best days are behind him, and that’s cool but stop acting like the God MC then.
An incredibly transcendent musical experience. Definitely in the conversation for being one of the best records of the year. A dazzling crossover of jazz, electronic, and classical orchestration whose movements around one specific 7-note progression; the subtleties in composition here make that one progression/motif listenable forever.
