Kate Bush walked so that Björk could run. She created this record entirely on her own, and it shows. She's never put a filter on who she is, and this is what she has to show for it.
The most unapologetically weird project of the '80s. The way the Talking heads fail to awkwardly imitate music driven from another culture creates a whole new sound that pulls together the band's standard nerdiness with newly introduced elements of funk, groove, and afrobeat. It's completely itself with no hindrances, and it reinvented the Talking Heads as a single unit rather than David's band.
Yeah, I still don't like Led Zeppelin. I can confidently say this is my favorite project from them though. I didn't think there was any filler for it being an eighty minute record form a band i hate, so it has that going for it. I also think it does away with the issues I have from of their other projects.
DemonDice Discography Review #I Forgot: I don't have a pun this time.
666 review special!? I don't really have anything to say though. This really just for fun. Anyway, to celebrate this spooky "milestone," I decided to return to AOTY's favorite demon, DEMONDICE.
I did a deep dive on her earlier this year, but I didn't check out this album. That was for a few reasons. Firstly, I didn't really care, and second, I was only counting EPs and LPs. You don't have to go back and read those ... read more
This record is amazing, but I would recommend you check it out after you've heard their more highly praised projects. Not to say it isn't as good as those projects, I personally liked it more than both The Seer and Glowing man, it just isn't as important in the grand scheme of their discography.
Their discography is massive by the way. Swans originally began as an industrial act in the '80s, before making the switch to experimental rock. This was done because Micheal Gira simply thought ... read more
I don't follow The Strokes, nor would I call myself a fan. I respect, and I get why they've gone down as one of the most important bands of the 2000s. It was when rock was slowly being faded out, the Strokes kept it in the public eye with a unique sound that was still accessible and catchy. Their influence can be seen in the sound of almost every other indie rock band from the decade.
I guess you could consider this their comeback album. Like I said, I don't keep up with the band, so I don't ... read more
The first half is nothing short of a masterpiece, but after that it slowly drifts off into being just ever so slightly less interesting. Still, the project as a whole is really solid, and would've easily been at least a 90 if the last leg was as good as the first.
Was trynna be as late as possible to this one, but my friends made me listen to it
I haven't been keeping track with Em at all. I felt like the Marshal Mathers LP let me understand him enough, so I wasn't exactly hyped when I heard this drop. That's why I tried to make a bit out of being as late as I possibly could. I just did not care.
The song itself is actually pretty fun. Em doesn't take himself too seriously, so I don't have a problem with the cheesey bars he throws around on the track. ... read more
Really living up to its name
Section.80 is the debut album of Kendrick Lamar. This is probably his worst album in my opinion, but as you can tell it's still great. This is his only project that I have anything negative to say about, and it's really only one problem. Some of these hooks just stink, especially on No Make-Up, which sucks because the verses on the song are the best on the album. Besides that one issue, this is a strong start for a rapper who would go on to refine their messages ... read more
The Lemon Twinks do not make music for me. I guess if you're a fan of the period they borrow from, then you can get behind it, but I am not.
To be honest this is a better song, in a vacuum, but when viewed in the context of the whole situation, it's just falt out annoying.
Oogway in general has just been on a steady decline for a long time. In regards to both the reaction to the single he released prior to this, and the decline of his content, he has been handling it terribly. He only ever stops milking trends that got old the second time they were done to complain about how he fell off. The single before this has just accelerated ... read more
