I already got all my preamble out of the way with the first one, so I'll just be cutting to the point with the rest of these tapes.
Wow. I honestly thought this series would just be more of the same thing five times over, but this was actually an improvement from the first. The loops chosen for this one are way more creative than the last, and the way they disintegrate is so much more noticeable. even after I get through the rest of these this one may end up being my favorite.
How did I not find out about these guys earlier? This is amazing.
Noise Pop is another genre I've never really seeked out before. Not because I never understood the genre. This is right up my alley. I just never heard about any noise pop bands before. feeble little horse is a band I can't wait to hear more form. Each song is so incredibly catchy, and they're all drenched in some amazing distortion. The tracks also flow insanely well. each song sounds like a movement to something greater. there ... read more
I immediately knew I wanted to hear this when I heard about its ties to 9/11. William finished this project on the day of the attacks, and he watched it happen from the the roof of his apartment. The cover is actually from a recording he took while viewing the attacks.
The story actually fits really well with the concept of the music. I don't remember the specifics of what inspired the music, but I know enough to try. William left a sample loop running for a while, and after coming back he ... read more
D'angelo ain't got nothing on the Vapors
As you might know, Magnets is one of my favorite albums of all time. Besides that I was never really into New Clear Days, so after I discovered magnets and saw the release date fo this project I assumed it was just some collection of demos that wouldn't offer much. Turns out, The Vapors actually reunited 40 years later. That fact made a bit anxious to listen to this too. 40 years is enough time for several drastic changes to happen that could completely ... read more
One the few White Stripes where I can understand what the fuss is about. It's a simple and energetic garage rock song. You don't need much more than that to make a perfect song sometimes.
even if this functions best as background music, this is such a massive improvement. I'm honestly surprised Sinder went from her first song being an unfunny cover that sounded like she didn't even try with her performance to this. The instrumental actually tries to do something, and she actually sings here.
I don't really think it was all that bad. The beats are fine and Cole is easy enough to tune out that I wasn't offended. It was really funny when he actually deleted 7 Minute Drill later. I guess the disses made are what got people all riled up, but like I said I kinda tuned out Cole for that song.
Man I did not get this one.
Jack White is a name who has only ever interested me one with fell in love with a girl. I've never really understood why he was such a crucial figure in the 2000s. I knew this record was polarizing, so I didn't have any expectations as to how I would feel. I was left with less understanding of his success. I guess if you like that's fine. If you don't I can understand that more.
More like Danny clown!!! Cus this album is an atrocity!!!
I was originally gonna leave it at that as a joke, but this album deserves so much discussion I just has to write an actual review. This album delves heavily Into Danny's own addictions and issues. An exhibition of his personal atrocities. Beginning with downward spiral, the listener is immediately thrown in to a disorienting sample flip of a beat complimented with Danny rapping in an almost cartoonish cadence and register.
Danny's ... read more
Another album that feels like filler among its best track. Much like Marquee Moon by television, I felt like the title track was obviously the main attraction. It is a ten minute hard-core journey that is perfect in every, but the other songs are extremely forgettable in comparison.
N word on the moon part 2?
Jenny Death is the second disc of Death Grips' double album, The Powers that B. This one focuses on experimentation with guitars, and they really went all the way with it. There are points where the guitars are so intense that it becomes a rock song. Like I said with both my review of the full project this is a part of the other half of that album, I do feel like it is the weaker of the two discs. It completes N Word On the Moon, but it only ever feels complete with ... read more
the best disc from Powers That B. I seriously do prefer the chopped up vocals to the intense guitars of Jenny Death. This album sees Death Grips collaborating with none other than Björk! If I hadn't known that before going in I would have never known, because they-re cut up so much that there's only one moment where it's clearly Björk's voice. I would've just assumed they samples one of her songs once, and then played with a bunch of other vocal samples on the rest of the album. i ... read more
Y'all I do not know what I was thinking with this one. My last score was a 49. i guess i was trying to be a cool contrarian. I'm not a huge personal fan of this album, but I seriously don't think it's as bad as I had it. I still think this project is worth checking out at least once.
